IGN: The Greatest Gameplay of All-Time

"Last month we ran a series of features on the greatest 3D graphics of all time, where we went through every console from PSone forwards and gave out a number of awards per system. You can read part one here (that's PSone, Saturn, N64), part two here (that's Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox and GCN) and part three here (that's PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii). Predictably, we've decided to follow up on the graphics awards with a set of features focusing on gameplay across the same selection of systems.

We're handing out awards in five categories:

* Highest Fun-factor: This game was pure, bottled fun.

* Most Important: The gameplay in this title wasn't just fantastic – it also pushed the boundaries of gaming at the time.

* Best Game No One Played: This game was a critical hit but didn't find the wider audience that it deserved, either because it wasn't released in certain territories or it was only available in limited numbers.

* Best Overall Gameplay:This was the game that had it all gameplay-wise. If you bought one game for the system in question, this was the one to get

* Biggest Blot on the Gameplay Landscape: This is an award given to a game that was both terrible and prominent.

In Part 2 we'll be checking out the Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox and GameCube, then the final instalment will wrap things up with the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Apologies to PC and arcade gamers that we're not tackling your platforms of choice, but this set of features is all about looking at closed systems..."
