Ah Nintendo, the little games company that took off over the fence and hasn't looked back since. To say that Nintendo's recent success is surprising would be a massive understatement. The have managed to tap into an audience that Microsoft and Sony can only dream of trying to reach – it really is quite amazing.

I really don't see it happening that soon. It is selling too well for them to drop another console on the market. I only use mine 5-10 hours a month (thanks to Boom Blox) but my wife uses the Fit quite often and the kids love it so I'd purchase a new version next year if there was one but I don't see it happening. I feel that we'll see a new box from MS before anything from Nintendo or Sony.

If Nintendo jumps 1st into next gen, they have to hit hard.
Microsoft did with the 360, While it proved flawed in may ways it still sells more software than the other consoles 3 years after launch, so it proves they did something right.

Let's hope that the next Nintendo console appeals more to hardcore gamers than the current one while still keeping its appeal to wives, kids and grandmas everywhere.

While at it, provide a 'classic' controller that would feel like the x360 or the dualshock.

That prediction sucks... They listed all the Nintendo consoles and they are all clearly 5 years apart, so going by that the next Nintendo console should be 2011.

Wii is too popular to be killed or have an other machine even w/ backwards compatibility to come out in 2010. Most anticipated Wii game is Monster Hunter 3 in Japan, and that won't come out until after end of 2009 thanks to Capcom wanting to milk the Monster Hunter G remake. Wii sales will pick up when MH3 is released and that gives them even more install base to milk some more shovel-ware well into the year 2010. Wii 2 will probably be announced by the end of 2010 and released in 2011 just like their 5 year apart console releasing history.

Pachter said this anyway, that there will be an announcement for Wii HD in 2009 and be released in 2010. But it will be the same as the normal Wii, just HD capable (somehow)

They haven't even had to drop the price of Wii yet. No doubt that manufacturing costs are down for them now. They are making a huge profit. Releasing a new console would lower their profit. This is hogwash. Besides if there was any real word on a new console IGN and Gamespot would be all over it. Both of them have rumor sections, and they would love to put it in there.

What?? I'll give you a list of the hardcore games that came out.

Resident Evil 4
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime Series
LOZ: Wind Waker

and then there are arguable others likes Star Fox..While other games like Pikman and Animal Crossing are still good, they certainly aren't "hardcore". Out of PS2, Xbox and GC, I have the least amount of games for GC, about 25, while I have about 120 for PS2 and 80 for Xbox.

Don't even try to say FZero GX is hardcore, that game is a brick wall, after 8 Races, you have to race against 30 others in a track with all Right Angle turns while the AI cuts the corners to the bare minimum.

F-zero is considered by many to be one of the hardest racing games on the gamecube. Your dislike of the courses and A.I doesn't change a game into a casual.

GC and Wii are garbage. Worst consoles ever! Only a nintendo fanboy in denial would say that they were good. But the Cube was better than the Wii thanks to Windwalker, Tales of Symphonia, Prime 1 and 2, Baten Kaitos it had a couple of good games here and there but nothing to compete against the PS2 or Xbox.

The same this year with the Wii but with even less good games. PS3 and X360 are miles away better.

The N64 was better than both because it had one of the greatest games of all time, Zelda OOT, and a couple of other games like Sins & Punishment, Mario 64, Start Fox 64, Zelda MM, Goldeneye, etc.

-The Snes and Nes were 2 of the best consoles of all time because they had a huge variety of games just like the PS1/PS2. There were a lot of RPG and other genres, not like with the CG and Wii that only has Mario kart, Mario jets-ki, Mario Baseball, Mario Bakestball, Mario Olimpics, Mario Swimming, Mario Volleyball, Mario Party...

I don't think Nintendo could offer that variety of game anymore, they changed a lot. This is a completely new company that has the same name.

Even if Nintendo do bring out a new Wii sometime in the future, I'm not convinced it would sell as well as the current console. Perhaps those people (everyone by the look of it) who currently has a wii won't be so quick to part with their cash. I regret my wii purchase. The original marketing for red steel misled me (in my view) and the only games I really like on it are resident evil 4 and the twilight princess. I won't be buying Wii 2 anytime soon unless I'm convinced the reality of the gaming matches its marketing of diving behind a sofa while fighting hordes of monsters etc

First, sony already did, twice. Second, it took Sony 10 years with PSOne and almost 9 years with PS2 and counting. PS3 is barely 2 years old, and PSP is 4 and still could be a long way to go. I hate ignorance.

BTW, since when do you have to be market leader to be successful? Nintendo did well with N64 and good enough with the Gamecube.

MS release the latest update to coincide with everybody's launch console going out of warranty, for a problem they new existed before launch, and does anybody remember the PS3 initial specs before the console was released, now theres a super computer, and their bully tactics to get another sony format into homes.

There has never been a console to receive an upgrade as significant as one of the Gameboy's upgrades. The only consoles that received a similar upgrade were the NES' toploader, and the N64's DD drive. Other than those, Nintendo consoles don't get upgraded. The Wii doesn't need an upgrade either, that can only be bad for business (Even if I would love a new online system).

If japan goes full HD with al their TV station, SD tv's won't be working.
Therefore japanese consumers will be forced to buy an HD TV.
And like Nintendo said in an interview, they made the Wii with that output because most japanese households have a SD tv.
So when the HD era goes gold Nintendo will make a HD console, it's obvious.

2010 sounds about right, i can't really recall when Japan goes full HD.

Not putting too much stock in this article. It seems to all be guesses and assumptions. I might as well add that wii 2 will make you fly and have it so you shoot deathbeams from your eyes. That statment has as much value as everything in this article. I'll wait until the next nintendo press conference to get real fracts on what it will be capable of. Nintendo's secrecy makes it damn near impossible to make assumptions before they say anything. Articles like this are nothing but pure garbage.

No predictions here... It's going to be more like the DSi... maybe some additions but it will be a consolidation and maybe a better GPU or GPU CPU hybrid.

Intel has larrabee, nvidia has their stuff and so does ATI which actually makes the GPU for the Wii and the xbox. Lots could happen but the price of the chips is to real deciding factor when a new unit will come out.

The demand for the DS never really went down too far then the DSi came out. I believe after 09 the new idea for the next nintendo system will take shape because motion control will be perfected some time this year it seems due to motion plus and better tools. Then the only way to put do that is better graphics or graphics with more style. Realism is the wrong direction to go unless it is cheap.

Thats why my favorite era of gaming was SNES Vs Genesis, because you couldn't even really tell that the genesis was more powerful, so no one fought about what looked better, they argued instead about what had better games. But even then, if Graphic Whores did that, they'd play the old Wii has no games card. to that I say. Come back when something tops Mario Galaxy!
No console has more classics than wii because of the VC, backwards compatability and Wii games. I never played paper Mario until I got wii. its awesome. Now I'm going to go back and download Mario RPG, Startropics I & II, all the old Phantasy Stars, and Bonk 2 & 3 (which I never knew existed) and played them for the first time.

Sorry pal but sony never started any gen off. Saturn kick started the n64, sony, saturn gen. Dreamcast declared the new era last gen. and 360 started us off this go round. Stop being a fanboy. do you know how many awesome games you're missing? I own only a Wii this gen, but at the same time I have a bro with a 360, and a friend with a PS3 so I played all the best games (even GTA IV and I hate GTA) this gen, but you clinging to sony and only sony as if they give a damn about if you play other consoles or not, is laughable. Hell I'm sure even big Reggie has played a 360 or PS3 before, I know the Nintendo Power staff admitted in one issue that they play the other consoles. Stop cheating yourself.

Nintendo has 1 goal and 1 goal ONLY and that is to make any guesses people? That's right MONEY!!!. The Wii is making tons of the green stuff and Nintendo is having a hard enough time keeping them in stores.
