In-Game XMB videos and trophy screens revealed

A member from the maxconsole forum has uploaded videos of the In-Game XMB in action and trophy screens. There is one showing the in-game XMB being used from a game title screen and one showing it being used during gameplay. The videos and shots were taken from test kits with the 2.4 release of the dev firmware.

BioShock is up and running. So this is how that EA employee knew about in-game XMB. He has the 2.4 firmware dev kit.

I NEED ingame xmb.. im a verry social person. And not having to quit games to answer peoples messages is GOLDEN. That was THE ONLY gripe i had against my beautiful PS3. The music thing is just a bonus to me. But i will gladdly take it.

Can someone please tell me what the hell is the point of trophies? They're not attached to any set task in the game. You beat it you get a trophy. That's not like achivments, folks. Xbox achivments actually add replay to the game. these just look like they're gonna take up room on our xmb's. This isn't something to coo about.

What you are looking at is the "ingame XMB" which seems to be different then the basic XMB. The trophy portion will be during the game you are in. Also that it may add a section to the basic XMB to let you view your trophies for each game. So it's not just going to plaster them someplace random. This is going to be in a section under games just for trophies. No different then images, videos or music. This is going to be so sweet!

only better! If you notice in the video when he expands the Bioshock trophies, there's a whole bunch of slots for different trophies that you get for different tasks. The first one was: "Collecting all treasures"...or something like that and there was a whole bunch more after that. So you don't get ONE trophy per game you beat, you get multiple trophies for multiple achievements for EACH game you have. Hope that made sense! LOL

Achievements are simply points you earn after completing a certain task,points which you can NOT use on the Market Place.Basically,Achievements are just there as bragging rights.
VERY few Achievements in a single game warrant another play through of the entire game after you've completed it,if you know WHAT the Achievements are then you can acquire most of them within your entire play time of the game from start 'til finish.

Now the Trophy System is rumored to have ties with Ps Home in more ways than just a 3D Trophy being on a Mantle,what those ties are are unknown at this point.

See I was under the assumption they were just going to give us 1 for beating the game and that was it. The way you all make it out sounds really cool and actually better than achievements.

You will be assigned the exact task as a fellow 360 gamer would. When you unlock and achievement on the 360, you unlock the same "trophy" on the PS3.

If this is fake which I doubt then the person did their home work. It doesn't load any videos, it shows the playlist for music. It also in the lower right corner shows the triangle at correct points and even shows the remote play. Which looks like you can start remote play while in games that support it.

then goes to the game menu

then clicks on the bioshock bluray disc

that then plays the game...

I'm still on the fence, but its not a video just being played. Unless this person went through the trouble of making a custom theme, and custom icons for items. I don't think you can make icons that override the bluray icon though.

A few valid/trusted sources have confirmed its coming realistically soon. Neogaf has a thread going on about it as well.

I was one of 4 people who played Bioshock a month and a half before it's release in NYC courtesy of 2K games. They've since moved over to SF i believe. They had us playing the game on a medium sized TV, or on a computer monitor in a dark room with big headphones. I don't think they necessarily need to use HI-Def TV or nething like that.

During development of both games and other media, testing is often done on the 'lowest common denominator'
Read as: Old crappy 19" TV.

It would make sense, if they where in between builds that one of the testing units would be unused, and a perfect place to record an unreleased firmware running on an unreleased, just confirmed game.

It could also be a testing unit they are using to test the new firmware with the game, since it would likely be shown at E3, so this would be a build you would want to be compatible.

These are all valid reasons why they would be testing on a poor quality non-HD TV.

You are definitely right about Bioshock being an excellent FPS, one of the very few in fact that dare to do something different with the genre. The story on the other hand was beyond exceptional, up until about halfway through...

I did in fact trudge my way through the boring "go here kindly, do that kindly" missions until I reached the dreadful ending. I drained each and every little girl, so of course I got the evil ending, which blew chunks mind you. I decided the game wasn't exciting enough for another play through, so I searched the Good ending online, only to be treated with another steaming pile... Cinematic visual and audio excellence on a disk, some of which are flawed by stupid game mechanics, tack on an undesirable replay value and you have an average story driven game.

PS: I played the best version, on the PC in 1920x1080p, with 5.1 Dolby surround. Like I said, visuals and audio are superb, but everything else is flawed.

Sony distributing bioshock with the devkit? does this developer work in the team that's making bioshock? Why the hell would a developer be using a 1970's TV to test HD Games?

This is a consistent testing practice with developing any media, including HD content.

All consoles can output in Standard Definition formats, and testing is commonly done on each formats 'lowest common denominator' or a crappy old tv.

This is actually a hidden restraint in developing true HD games. The text and information displayed, generally still needs to be readable or accessible on lower definition display devices.

It surprises me that Bioshock is coming to PS3, after all the devs 'exclusive/denials' but stranger things have happened in this industry.

Seeing Bioshock & Dev firmware on a trashy 19" TV is just one of them.
