Interview: Pandemic's Josh Resnick on EA Life, Wii Development and Industry Consolidation

Gamedaily.Biz writes: "At the D.I.C.E. Summit last month, we sat down with Pandemic Studios President Josh Resnick, who shared his love for his new EA masters, Wii development and the console race, consolidation and more.

BIZ: Do you see this console racing being a three-way tie to the end, or do you see a real leader emerging? Do you think it might be the Wii or...

JR: For one, a lot of people have been talking about this: wouldn't it be great if we just had one platform? From a development standpoint, it might be, but I think that'd be a terrible world to live in. I love the competition between the platforms. I think gamers and developers win and honestly I think those platform manufacturers win as well, because it forces them to really be competitive. It forces them constantly to be reinventing themselves and constantly ask, "What value am I bringing to the consumer? How can I be unique, how can I be innovative, how can I push the medium forward?" just as much as we're asking those same questions as software developers. It would be a terrible world if we didn't have the Wii in it. It would be an equally terrible world if we didn't have the 360 or the PS3 in it. So I'm really happy we have that competition. If I had to put the Josh Resnick two-cents out there, I don't know if we're going to have a clear winner emerging. You heard Shane Kim from Microsoft saying, "Don't just look at how many units are sold." There's so many different measurements of "who's winning" that I think at the end of the day you really might have this kind of weird three-way tie thing, where Nintendo is doing something different and serving a different audience and same thing for Microsoft and Sony."
