Cloverfield Monster Comes from Resistance?

Awesome movie monster. I went to the midnight showing (first time I had ever done so) with a buddy of mine. It's a very visceral experience.

Also, Godzilla was Japan's way to cope with the nuclear attack. Cloverfield felt like the opposite, by practically milking 9/11 imagery to unsettle the viewer

Resistance creature design isn't very original. The whole viper/angler fish (boney irregular skull, multiple black eyes, long translucent teeth) look has been done in a lot of films. The Cloverfield monster was fine until the last few "forced" minutes when it's staring at the camera. It went from kinda cool to generic.

If anything, Cloverfield seems reminiscent to H.R. Giger's work (guy who created the Alien monsters)

The monster was cool, the movie was ehhhh alright. Definitely received too much praise for its innovative camerawork combined with its high budget. Everyone I went with liked it a lot more than I did though. I asked why they thought it was so awesome and the most common response was "I thought the stuff they did with the camera was awesome, and how it felt like I was there!" Where I come from it takes a lot more than that to make a great movie, ah well.

Dont want na spoil anything, but at the ending, if you look closely at the background, you will see something interesting and probably make you satisfy with the ending more than you do now.

it was kinda refreshing to have something different, not just total special effects where they show the monster every shot..it went to the old days of picking and choosing were to show the cloves monster build up suspense, and the point of view of not knowing what the hell is going on, staying in the mindset and essentially the movie ending on a i still dont know anything type of deal

and when i saw the cloves monster i thought of resistance right away, i even say to my friends if you played resistance you have a basic idea on what the monster looks like

Who else's favorite part was when

They're taking off in the helicopter, and he's filming the monster getting bombed, and as it goes down it grasps for the front of the office building and completely just tears out all of the windows. I thought that shot was awesome.

I hated the last 10 mins. It was so unbelievably forced. Monster gets bombed, lashes directly at the helicopter, they plummet from about 60 stories and are fine. Monster becomes a ninja and sneaks up on them. Directly looks at Hud, and apparently only nibbles at it's prey since hud's upper half (only thing visible on the camera) is completely fine, as well as, the camera which just fell from about 24 stories. Monster doesn't even pay mind to the others. They grab the camera and run under a bridge. Bridge gets blown up. Last footage on camera is the two at Coney Island a month earlier and just so happen to catch the monster splash into the ocean with no one noticing.

Completely ruined the suspension of disbelief

The end say's it's still alive, so there will be sequels (it only cost $30 million to make. It's advertising cost more)

I just hope the next movie isn't another Laguna Beach with monsters

I did like the subway scene, which was kind of a ridiculous scenario. You knew what was coming, but it was still freaky. It reminded me of the tent scene from "Blair Witch"

The sequel needs to get rid of the generic guy going to save his girlfriend story. It'd be cool if the sequel was a collection of recovered films from amateur film makers and newscasters who aren't running and refusing to evacuate even though New York is going to get nuked.

I agree that the rest of the movie felt kind of like, wow, this doesn't make much sense, but when you put that in the context of "A monster from God knows where just destroyed Manhattan and everyone is dead", it makes it more believable. I just thought that one shot was pretty awesome. Also, I didn't even catch the whatever-it-was falling into the water at the end on Coney Island. The fact that it was like 2:15 by that point could have had something to do with it. I'll have to check it out sometime. Why would it have been a satellite? That doesn't make any sense at all... unless it knocked the satellite out of orbit in it's own descent... hmm...

I saw it with a mate who just got a PS3. As soon as I saw the monster, I said, "Have you played Resistance yet?"

Not that it looks exactly like anything but it definitely looks at home in the Resistance Universe.

PS I liked the movie too. It was different, absorbing and really sucked you into it. And I like that you dont get all the answers and have to think of your own conclusions as well as not always seeing the monster. It was Spielberg's idea to hardly show the shark (after it didnt work very well admittedly).

But I'm still waiting for some hack movie reviewer to say "Its Godzilla meets The Blair Witch! Two thumbs up." ;)

Actually the Cloverfield monster looks like a larger version of the monster from Gwoemul/The Host.

We usually agree on everything, but I don't think it looks anything like the creature from The Host.

The Host creature was a mutation of tadpole, salamander/ mudskipper

It was my first Blu-ray movie (memories)

The Host looks great on blu-ray (so does Hellboy, Sky Captain, Paprika, 300, Curse of The Golden Flower, Scanner Darkly, Underworld 2, Pirates 2 & 3, Reign of Fire, Ultraviolet)
Casshern on blu-ray? Awesome!
Oldboy is okay. I like Sympathy for Lady Vengeance better (last in the trilogy)

I hadn't seen Cloverfield yet, but I saw the creature a few months back. My brother showed me some preliminary concept art, and even though they did change it up some from the giant walking whale/turtle thing (I think?) it was before, it reminded me of The Host then and even moreso now. Only reason I say that is because of the fins, the four legs, and the long tail. The head and the rest are different though.

Oh yeah thanks for letting me know it was on BR, I'm going to have to pick that up next, just got Old Boy yay. And now the wait for Casshern on BluRay starts. ..

it does and dosent, if that makes any sense, its stucture is akward in a way thats nothing like the widow makers or rollers/leapers becuase Clovie had a torso. widowmakers are basicly huge daddy long leg's and leapers barley have a neck.

now aside from the multiple eyes that Chimera have I thought Clovie had a very similar mouth to the hybrids. I the initial attack when hud was seperated from the group and the creatures head darted in threw the smoke I thought "HOLY CRAP ITS RESISTANCE!" but it became a creature all to its own as the movie progressed.

and the little monsters were hilarious! "NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM"

I don't know. I haven't seen the movie, and I don't know how the monster looks. But I do know my monsters from Resistance, and they're pretty creepy. The teeth look the same, but little else. I would say that from the pictures I've seen, there's about a 50% similarity.

Looked almost identical to the small Chimera from Resistance (actually, that tunnel sequence brought back the creepiness from that game). Anyway, awesome awesome movie, and they BETTER make more Cloverfield flicks. I'm actually wondering if they'll stick to the handheld style, or simply use a different camera technique for each one.

When I saw Cloverfield ...I was immediately reminded of the Rancor from Return of the Jedi. I haven't played Resistance so I cant say for sure if either of the creatures in the movie look anything like that of Resistance...but the main one definitely felt like a bit of the Rancor to me.

I saw the Movie and my son even said those monsters look like the one from my video game(Resistance). They stole two monsters from Resistance and made a movie. The small spider like monsters and the big a$$ chimera monster.

Notice how the cameraman in the movie said something about the possibility of the monster being a Alien or some government experiment. Well at the end of the movie something drop into the water in the background. That is a hint you all can figure out. An the monster's offspring(children) sounds like and look a little bit like the Ant Lions from Half Life 2. I thought the movie was good!!! in fact I thought it was better and more successful than "I am Legend" and it had a better ending. It's not as good as "Children of Men" Those. Next time you watch the movie don't forget to watch the credits at the end to hear this "Help us" and "It's still alive(backwards)."

I got into a conversation about haw awesome Resistance 2 is gonna be. And Since I still had Cloverfield on my mind and we were talking about Resistance stuff, I pictured the Cloverfield monster and the Chimera side by side. And they resembled one another.

I think it's safe to assume that JJ Abrams has seen, if not played Resistance before.
