1.1 - well on that note i had never played socom before.. and no i'm not a recent gamer
i used to be a pc gamer until i bought my ps3.. and when i downloaded the socom beta, i instantly really loved the way it just works... the accuracy of your shots is awesome.. when you shoot in the head is a headshot.. not like cod4 where there is so much lag you usually have to shoot in front of someone in order to kill them.. and i have 25mbps so is not my internet

Since i played socom beta i didn't play cod4 again.. so to me.. socom IS indeed a cod killer...

Call of Duty 4 is such an awsome game, but I think that Socom will at the very least match it in terms of the number of people that play it on the PS3.

Although, now that Socom is out, there will be alot of PS2 owners that will upgrade to a PS3 just for this game.

1.6 - I have always loved Socom too.
I also understand their options to release it now in a playable form and patch it shortly after or delay the game again. To get it out was the goal. But in that sense, I played the Resistance 2 beta and I know Socom should have been able to run smoother than it is. So in my opinion, others are stepping up their game and ready to take the spotlight on the PS consoles and unless Socom is fixed right and soon, it could be the Socom Killer.

Your Internet speed has little to do with why in COD4 there is lag. It's more of your connection to the host and the response time your getting from the host (the closer you are to the host the faster response). The information you send will get there quick due to your connection speed (25mbps) but if the host doesn't respond fast enough that's what's causing the lag (or it could be someone else that lagging the host cause everyone else to lag). If you want to test your speed and lag or response time, go to dslreports.com and test from your location to the fartest ISP there then test from your location to the closest one, you will see a difference. It's the same with gaming.

Well I just got back from a day and a half of traveling. I picked up SOCOM w/the Headset and Dead Space. Then I as I was unpacking tonight I found my R2 beta code was in my mail. I downloaded that and am now downloading the SOCOM update getting ready to dive in. I was in the beta so I am really looking forward to this.

The headset is charged and paired - it is heavier than any bluetooth headset I have ever seen. Feels very sturdy. If the full game is like the beta then I won't get to Dead Space for some time.

After the beta ended I played one game of COD4 and couldn't stomach the idiot run and gun trash.

this is what jaded every game with hype. Both COD4 and Halo are great titles that have massive success on their own merit. you cant kill a success rival, but you can be just as success or a little bit better. which is why Socom will always have it's success as will COD4 and every Halo game thats released

It's subjectable some people might prefer simulators than arcade style game-play or vice versa. For me I enjoy realism more than fantasy or fantasy realism if that can be a genre of its own. So Far Cry 2, Call of Duty, or Socom will be on my asap list. I find the more realistic the game is the more pacing you have to do.

Let me give you a shorter definition.When SOCOM II came out it had more people online than all of Xbox Live combined. Bear in mind people had to buy a Network Adapter. They call it SOCRACK for a reason.

If the few issues are resolved it will be the biggest MP game on the PS3. SOCOM induces artificially something other games try to force - Teamwork. Outside of clans, most games are a 50/50 split between Team players and lone run and gunners. SOCOM has a much higher rate without forcing you to play that way.

Yep.

As for myself, I enjoy tactical shooters because of the adrenaline rush. You have to think where the enemy is whereas in COD4/Halo3, an enemy can pop out any second.

Socom is not a average shooter...
Running and gunning don`t pay-

It`s Apples(cod4/Halo3) and (socom)Oranges... Socom has some problems to fix before any thing can happen... Some people can`t even get online right now.... but because it`s Socom they will wait-

I hope They support this game and fix the problems...

Till then No... It`s not a COD4 killer or a Halo Killer-

11 - It's really sad to say that it's mainly
do to single system owning fanboys (not all single system owners are like this just fanboys), every game for their system MUST kill something on the oposing system. I miss the days before crazy fanboyism came about, it got extreme this gen that's for sure. I think it's way the f**k out of line to be honest and think it's sad. It's because of that... why great games can't co-exist in a plethora/sea of great games. But they are rather thrown into comparisons by graphics, gameplay, etc.. Every game has it's different way of doing things to give it, it's own feel. But somehow, someway the fanboys must compare games cause they absolutely must have thee best game on their system. When in all actuality if they would just own or at leat except the opposing system and it's games, they would realize the other systems actually have great games also, and they very well can co-exist together. But this problem will always exist for those extremist's. No video comparisons of resistance 2 and gears 2 on this site will make me choose between the 2. I will own both and enjoy both, because they are going to be amazing. It's really sad how much this gen of systems also got people more worried about graphics over anything else about games. So much logic in gaming and gamers is getting lost now days. It's getting depressing!

There is some bad to that. A lot of developers may choose to forgo being creative just so they can do some that's "safe" and focus on too much graphics and not enough gameplay. However you gotta admit that that time of competition does push developers to do new things. I honestly see the gaming world like a capitalistic economy (which it is.sorry.brain fart.). Competition spurs better products for sure. Another downside is the birth of fanboyism. But theres a yin and yang to everything I guess

Because Socom Confrontation takes skill to win, it has already surpassed CoD4. Not to brag and all, but when I was playing CoD4 online for the first time, I was always on the top of the list. Most kills with the best kill to death ratio.

Another good reason why I love Socom over CoD4 is that socom does not have regenerating health. That's the dumbest thing to ever have in a shooter.

cod4 has a slight auto aim ok, its for noobs-fact. 5 kill airstrike? helicopter? thats all for noobs, the red dot is for noobs, cod4 was fun but its old news. and yea i was the sh*t at that game, it was too easy, i would end free4all's in no time. socom is more my style and if yall haven't bought it or only played the beta, you have no right to speak unless you are ignorant.

i mean as far as i know its nothing more then a target on your gun. if you are a bad shot, Red dot won't save you. are there no scopes or targets on the guns in socom ? sorry, i have not played socom before but i do wonder how you aim in it.

Helps pacing the game? Yeah maybe for a nonstop respawn game like Halo, and CoD4. Socom is not a respawn game. HAHA. Sure theres respawn mode but the real action starts when you play in a ranked room with respawn disabled. And just to let you know, Socom does not have health packs. You stick with your remaining health till the end of the round. You can see why this game requires skill.

I like how you keep bringing up skill. If you don't cheat in Halo, it take skill to get rank 50. It takes skill to keep you kill/death ratio at 5 to 1 in COD4.

I am not saying that is me, but every game takes a certain skill set. What your saying about SOCOM is no different that COD4/Halo3. It is just a variation.

SOCOM is a fun game, and just hope they can't get it patched quickly cause right now its almost unplayable. I played the beta as well.

I like how you assumed that I think CoD4/Halo 3 doesn't takes skills. Yeah I know all games takes skills but Socom requires more. CoD4 and most other shooters are the pick-up-and-go type of shooters. That's why you see so many casual players on CoD4 and Halo 3 for a reason. Anybody can tell you Socom is harder. You too can even admit its a lot more challenging if you've played Socom on consoles before.

Trust me I used to be on Halo 2 longer than you've probably played Halo 3 and I've been playing CoD4 since it came out. Socom is now out and I can truly stand for what I say.

red dot makes it easier to aim. the screen is wide open, you have full visibility of all of whats i front of you and you have a red dot in the center for better precision. : ) its for noobs. sorry. i like challenging shooters. but thats just me...
