I doubt Epic will wait more than 3-4 years before releasing their next Gears game, i mean... What are they gonna do in that time? Release another Unreal Tournament? Nah, either they are working on a new IP or they're hard at work with Gears 3 for a 2011 release(that would be when the next Xbox comes out).

Speaking to Eurogamer after the event, Capps explained that if the next Gears of War - assuming there is one - were to be released in the next "four to five years", it would be for current consoles.

Were it to be based on Unreal Engine 4, however, it would have to come out on the next round of consoles, because those are the machines for which Epic is targeting its next generation of money-spinning engine technology.

"If we ship a game in the next few years, it'll be Unreal Engine 3. If we ship a game on next [generation] consoles, it will likely be Unreal Engine 4," he told Eurogamer.

Well. DirectX 11 is coming in October or so for PC platform. Only takes a year or two before we see it fully supported on a console. Microsoft isn't going to wait more than 2 years to unveil the next Xbox. DirectX 11 will be fundamental for next Xbox. There is already something under wraps that can upscale X360 games. I wonder what it could be? Project Phoenix is its code name. At least according to rumors. Nothing has come out denying it yet.

Well, Microsoft doesn't really need Gears of War 3 next year with Halo Reach and Alan Wake coming out. I think it would be pretty smart of Microsoft to save Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 720 or whatever they name it. Good launch titles are rare, and I know I'd definitely be more interested in an Xbox 720 if it was launching with Gears of War 3.

IMO, xbox720 in 2011 confirmed. MS will be playing a dual strategy, xbox360+Natal for the casual market and xbox720 on the high end. I think it's a good thing for the industry MS to come out with a more capable and reliable console.

The first two Gears iterations were bound to the 360 by contract, after that Epic could either extend the deal with Microsoft, or make Gears multiplatform. I don't know about a trilogy though.

i don't think cliffy can be considered a 360 fanboy since UT3 on the ps3 is without question better then the 360 version and he has a contract with MS with gears of war so they couldn't go multiplatform gears 3 can easily go to the ps3 if MS doesn't try and make a deal with epic. he is similar to kojima he works mainly with sony but isn't against working on the 360.

You're a f*ckin' idiot. Unreal Tournament for the PS3 was a port from the 360 you moron. How the hell can it play better. Everyone in this forum knows the 360 controller was built for FPS's and EPIC doesn't make games for the PS3. They don't like the architecture of the system. Cliffy B stated that in an article. 99.9 multiplatform games are made on 360 development kits you moron.

As for the topic at hand...EPIC sucks! Yes they make good games, but they ignore fans just like Infinity Ward. They said Gears was a trilogy, but now back off and say it will be for the next system which is 3-4 years down the road. By then we would have lost interest and Uncharted 3 will be the Killer App for the competition. As for my statement about IW being the same way...they have the #1 selling FPS of all time and the most anticipated game of the year and what do they give their fan base in return...1 MAP PACK in 2 years. Talk about supporting you customers. They totally abandoned the online community so they could make another game and get another $60 from you. Good job IW

MS wouldn't need to throw money around to prevent this game from being on the PS3. It wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Epic isn't stupid enough to spend a lot of money developing on an inferior console (PS3), just to sell 20,000 copies at the end of the day. It's just not worth it financially.
