Star Ocean: The Last Hope Gameplay Footage

Kombo Writes: "You've seen the beautiful screens. Now see the gorgeous game in motion. Star Ocean: The Last Hope is one of the most memorizing, beautiful, and gorgeous games of this generation. Between Final Fantasy XIII and Star Ocean, I would say Square-Enix has crafted the best looking games this generation, thus far."

Well I think graphically the game looks gorgeous, but art wise (if I may... yes indeed^^) it sure does look like crap; they look like plastic and the characters are so small/young...

Gameplay looks really good though.

1.4 - GREAT!
Another great JRPG for the 360!!
This is simple ----> 360 fans will love this game
PS3 fans will find some way to bash it - jealousy will get the best of them;)

Great. Random battles? So tired of that. This can stay a 360 exclusive.

3 - There are no random battles
You would know that if you watched more then the begining of the video. Besides that though, this game looks really disapointing. I was hoping for something that played better then this,, but Tri Ace only knows how to produce flops. This game Looks and plays just like Infinite Undiscovery, and that game was boring. I dont know why Squeenix keeps making these kinda games,, they should go back to their roots.

Lol.

From link:

"I would say Square-Enix has crafted the best looking games this generation, thus far. "

yes, LAST GEN not this gen by far.

Last Remnant is decent (UE3 so well, you know), Infinite Undiscovery is average at best and SO4 is rough around the edges. Detail in characters is good but environments have some poor textures. Geometry is reported to be bad.

That looked.....BLOODY FANTASTIC!! Aaaaaargh! It pisses me off as I liked Star Ocean 2 and 3 was brilliant (the storyline was really well crafted) and this isn't coming to the PS3! I really don't understand Tri-Ace/SquareEnix. If what they say is true that they don't want any console to be the all out winner this generation and if they want to make more money, why not just release it as a multiplatform game? Or were they just making excuses.

The annoying thing is that everytime I consider buying a 360, one of my friends units RROD's and that put's me right off. Case in point, I was thinking of buying a 360 of one of my friends next Thursday for £80, then yesterday, I went to see my friend just to chill and he tells me that he's got something to show me with a smile and turns around his console to reveal the bloody RROD! He's only had the blasted thing for 2 weeks and it seems it's one of the newer models as it has a HDMI slot at the back....WTF Microsoft!

Just because of this reason, I'm gonna miss out on two great titles (Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia) that I wanted because I just can't bring myself to buy shoddy hardware.

8.1 - you guys complain and Nitpick too much
The bottom line is if you are not a gamer you will complain, nitpick, and miss out on these great titles coming out. The funny thing is Final Fantasy Crisis Core for the PSP had the same fighting on the fly mechanic as Star ocean, it was called briliant. I really want to know, what is it really? Is it because it hasn't been comfirmed for your system of choice? People are quick to bash games, or say its been gimpt by the limits of certain hardware when its not on the system they chose? Aren't the PS3 loyals getting White Knight, FF verses, FF13, or what ever number their at? So, Square not showing support is not a vaild choice of words, They are making sure one system doesn't flat out dominate this is true.

Hey, if you want to play this game buy a 360 and play it. Thats what PS3 fans flat out say to 360 fans when they want to play a ps3 exclusive. The system does come with a 3 year rrod warranty so I really don't see what other excuse fans can come up with. You can't say the game sucks, the story is boring, or the controls aren't your speed... the game isn't out yet.. So, someone please share with me whats the problem?

I read your point, but it's the principle of just buying something which I KNOW is going to fail on me just seems crazy. If I knew someone that bought a TV, for example, that was known to be defective even WITH an extended warranty, I would ridicule them, so I wouldn't do it myself. I know people on the 4th or 5th 360, that isn't funny at all for any electronic equipment.

I am not a "fanboy" who can't say appreciate a good game on another console, I think Star Ocean 4 looks fantastic. But I'm also not stupid enough to pay for hardware that I have heard form many sources can fail on me multiple times. If the PS3had problems like this, I wouldn't have wasted money on it as well.

8.3 - I see your point
and no I didn't disagree with you. These are the chances you have to take with hardware. Ultimately, all hardware has issues. I have had my xbox360 replaced three times, and those same people that laugh at me are the same people that come to my house to play games on my 3x broke 360 for hours. Hell they play it more then I do. See, I don't get rapped in all that image B.S at the end of the day, I am a gamer. I have lost more buying the Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo C.D, Turbo Graphix 16, and Sega master system. Do I regret it, nope...... You have a 3 year warranty for the red ring, by the time that runs out a new system will be out. So, I say, why miss out on potentially good games for some cheap short lasting ridiculing? At the end of the day, you'll be winning. If the system 3 red rings in 6 months, a year, 2 years 11 months. It will be fixed for free, and the warranty exstended ... if it does RROD in those times, no big deal go out and socialize for those two weeks. lol.

13 - I have both systems
and played every rpg on the 360,, and Im really sad to say they did all suck. Ive played games on my NES that were more fun then the 360's rpg's. I did like phantasy star, but the only good thing about that game was the online, and that lacked any meaning. Im sorry that you guys dont agree with my opinions. The game play looked really crappy,, the same ol half assed hack n slash just doesn't work for rpg's. Wanna see a good rpg? Play Fable 2. People say that you cant just a game before you play it, but that just doesn't work for rpg's. You get what you see.. And I see nothing but garbage from this game. Lame.

14 - Naw
I disagree with only two things. When I saw BLue Dragon, I thought it was going to be the worst turn based game I have ever played. The game was kiddy, I sat down and played it and actually enjoyed it. Two worlds I liked it when I saw it. I played it and hated it. Here is the thing, you cant base a game off what you see. There may be more then just that. Case in point.. I could look at FF7 and say " ahhhh man it's turn based, thats garbage so I guess the game is going to be garbage cause thats all I see ." We all know how succesfull FF7 is. My best advice to you is, don't judge it off of looks... you might be passing on a classic.

Do you make any sense?

What do you think Action-based RPG are about?

"real slow like a press button every 2 mins game."

I agree kewlcat, idk what Neo's problem is. Although I haven't played any Star Ocean games prior (always FF) this looks really awesome to me. The battle characterisics just look like a continuation of the adding action rpg elements trend we are seeing. It seems to me FF 13 and VS will also have pretty frenetic combat, especially VS.

Anyway, I think one of the things this game really succeeds at is its the first JRPG Iv'e seen (aside from FF XIII) to have truly convincing flowing hair, not just clumps. For me this is the one area of graphics that so many "current gen" games fail at hardcore which breaks the immersion. The animation also looks quite good. This is really the first 360 exclusive JRPG that makes me want to consider a purchase. Looking great!

Looks like how I would've wanted Eternal Sonata to play. It's less restricted than ES but more than FFXII. It's like Valkyrie Profile with real-time combat, but it looks alright though

20 - Honestly man this is getting old
Will a rpg ever come out as good as Xenogears an Suikoden II ever again. Seems like the focus these days are not on the great stories that once made us love the rpgs, like the ones I stated but more on just graphics. An trying to capture a middles zone between turn based an action rather then keeping the main thing that makes rpgs truly what they are, the story. Most of them these days seem to be rehashes of the old ones with no new concepts even with them being fantasy based. Although with that in mind I can say after buying Star Ocean 3 an not liking it very much that I would at the very least be cautious about jumping head first into this without a second thought. Now also you have to consider Tri Ace is developing this not SquareEnix an considering Infinite Undiscovery I would hope you would at least think twice. Even if SquareEnix was to help them somewhere in there even there more recent track record hasn't been that great. An as excited as I was for Squares own Last Remnant, after seeing actual in game footage an not trailers. Even that is starting to not look like its all cracked up to be.
