Molyneux: I was wrong about Godfather's plot - games will surpass it

VG247: Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux's has said his previous claim that games will produce a story "equivalent" to Godfather's quality by 2016 is "wrong".

"I think I was wrong about that Godfather line… I think we can surpass where the Godfather is," he told VG247, speaking at GDC.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

No, seriously. There will come a day when game plotlines will surpass movies. But this will be one game that surpasses one movie. Another movie will come to take the top again. It will be a constant back and forth. And that's a good thing. It forces games to evolve.

Games first need to evolve as an art form before it can begin to butt heads with other art forms. That's simply how art works.

That aside, yeah, Peter Molyneux is absolutely bonkers, but we all love him for it anyways.

Who will decide which game surpasses the Godfather ? A panel of expert or something ? We've already had great games with great stories told through gameplay or cutscenes, we'll have more improvements in the future and many masterpieces to come, but what's the point of this comparison ? Games =/= movie ! Do we have to wonder if The Godfather is better than something written by Shakespeare or Victor Hugo ?
