1.2 - and i bet everyone will still call it Call Of Duty XD. (i know i will)
ill miss the name "call of duty" man.

modern warfare 2 sounds too intellectual imo for a good fun video game, it sounds more like an army simulator : /

doesn't matter to me though, ill still buy it.

Since it won't have "Call of Duty" in the title, will the profit be counted in the Call of Duty net profits?

Fine with me. 4 is easily the best of the CoD series. Branch off into your own thing so Treyarch doesn't drag your name down every other year.

So the next "Call of Duty" can be WW2 based. They have a chance to turn one franchise into two franchises. You can look forward to yearly installments of Call of Duty to continue and soon yearly installments of Modern Warfare.

Things are better this way. Now people won't complain how the next Call of Duty doesn't meet the standards of the previous one, lol. Anyway, I hope they add some awesome new features into this game.

Anybody think that maybe, just maybe, Infinity Ward wanted to change up the series so much that Activision just told them to turn Modern Warfare 2 into it's own series?

I wonder if the Treyarch titles will drop the Call of Duty thing too?
If so, that would mean that their next game would be called "World at War 2"?

Not very smart.
The franchise is known as Call of Duty to the non hardcore gamer public, getting rid of that might hurt sales.

Not so sure , there might have been some backlash from uninformed people not aware at first that infinity wasnt involved in the current title , or ww2 based , with them not buying the next one .

I know it sounds silly but i've actually seen and heard that kind of people . " I thought it would be the same as cod4 , not some ww2 crap , i'm not buying the next one !"

that's gonna be about the only game that's gonna drag me off killzone2. Unless uncharted2 has a competetive MP. Please oh please oh please. M16 stopping power deep impact extreme conditioning. . RPD with recoil butt stopping g power and deep impact. Those are my money makers baby.

They are abandoning the name Call of Duty for a few reasons I would think.

First is they don't want to confuse consumers with a series that keeps going back and forth with Modern Warfare and World War II Warfare.

Second is that Infinity Ward may want to distance themselves from the Call of Duty name thanks to Treyarch. Lets face it no matter how you look at it every installment made by Treyarch simply sucked when compared to the games developed by Infinity Ward. Doing this and abandoning the name Call of Duty won't affect Modern Warfare as Call of Duty is continued to be whored out.

It doesn't suck compared to 4 or 2 or COD. It's just not as good. Sorry, but a game not being "as good" doesn't automatically qualify it as "sucking".

Well that makes the abbreviations easier :P, from COD:MW2 to just MW2. However I still feel it lacks something in its name.

Good to separate the good stuff from the other crap . What i'm not liking though is that it's the good one that's getting robbed of the name ...oh well .. at least each can have "his" call of duty flavor without dealing with the other .

I think its a good idea to change the name. They probably did it because too many people were getting confused with Call of Duty WWII series and the modern warfare series. Now Call of duty belongs to WWII only.

Here, here. I concur! CoD4's campaign was simply amazing, yet I hope MW2 has a longer campaign. I have faith knowing it's coming from Infinity Ward. :)

Now it sounds like a generic shooter. Modern Warfare 2? That's like naming a WWII game just World War II.

Im pretty sure they're saving COD5 as a title so that they can use it in the next generation of gaming.

I'm glad this happened I always called COd 4 (modern warefare), I always considered modern warfare to be separate from the other call of duty titles anyway, because it was the only modern day warfare game from call of duty. this also means we will be seeing a series of modern wardare games and world war 2 games. Its a win win in my book.

I have a feeling this is going to be more of a COD 4.5 than the genre defining experience that was COD 4. Which could be another reason for the name change. That's cool with me though because more of the awesome same is still awesome.
