GDC '09: Sony Playstation Wishlist

PushSquare: "We're not entirely sure how much will get announced at this years GDC. Usually the really big announcements are saved for E3, with smaller announcements at GDC. In 2007 Sony announced Playstation Home and LittleBigPlanet at GDC, as part of Sony's focus on "Game 3.0? - or community-focused, interactive gaming.

This year we're not sure what we can expect from Sony, but we presume there will be a focus on the Playstation 3's great '09 exclusives and the PSP.

Ever the speculists, we've compiled a list of what we'd like hear about from this years GDC."

It goes all week and I couldnt find any info when Sony was up. Kojima is Thursday, Ico is earlier in the week, NIN is wends I think...

Sony are doing some "lounge" type party event thing I believe. Media Molecule will be there, Insomniac, Fat Princess etc. That's going on all week I believe.

honestly i dont expect much from nintendo anymore

gamecube was a huge letdown and wii nailed the coffin, the console is nice but faaar away from what i expect from nintendo

When did the Game Developers Conference become an announcement platform for the console makers? As a gamer I always welcome fresh news, but it would seem to me that this conference should be for game developers to discuss game development. Isn't that what E3, TGS and all that is for?

Wasn't the GDC better for game coverage than E3 last year?
(Not sure about announcements wise.)

All I remember from E3 is Nintendo dancing their dignity away and MS boasting about FF.

Leibzig was the best from what I can remember.

I agree that GDC isn't so much a place for announcements, but think about all the gaming press captive in one spot. Sounds like the perfect place for making big announcements to me.

I'll be the first to admit I like news as I imagine most of the people here do or else you wouldn't be on News 4 Gamers :) but I also have to think game devs probably get a little peeved that big name companies come in and use their conference as their own platform.

Didn't Sony announce LBP and Home in GDC?!
I mean Data-Fly is being teased as well, with some new Home content..
Those are things to look out for! Might not be something major, but a small breath of fresh air ^^

Gears of War 2 was announced at last year's GDC, and I think that Resistance 2 was announced at GDC as well last year.

GDC really isn't the place for big game announcements, but I can definantly see maybe 1 or 2 games from Sony and Microsoft being announced at GDC this year.

I do think that some of these gaming websites are hyping up GDC a little much though, because most of the real big announcements are saved for E3... I just hope that I don't wait all the way until TGS to hear from Team ICO on their next project.

You're right and you're wrong. GDC is not reserved for big announcements at all, so in that area you're right. However, those giving keynotes sometimes like to use their upcoming titles as a platform to further their discussion.

The best example being in 2007 when Phil Harrison talked about "Game 3.0" he subsequently went on to reveal LittleBigPlanet and Playstation Home.

So yes, it's wrong to get "over excited" and hype - but it's always fun to reasonably speculate.

Like I said earlier, the strongest rumours are that Nintendo have a LOT to show this year, with Satoru Iwata heading up a keynote.
