S-E reveals codename "Rapture"; MMORPG

Several new images and information from Taku Murata's session at this year's GDC have appeared online, revealing the name of Square Enix's next generation MMORPG: codename "Rapture". Square Enix has already revealed the MMORPG is under development using Crystal Tools.

We have already learned Square Enix's engine supports the PlayStation 3, Xbox360, PC and the Wii in a limited way. This means the new MMORPG will probably be released for all three next generation consoles.

1 - Personally I doubt it will be multi platform
Because if I remember correctly, MS doesn't want any cross-platform play with the ps3 or the wii. I could be wrong though

FFXI was on PC Xbox and ps2 and everyone got along fine. I think they could get it to work on all systems.

1.2 - That's true
FF XI was on pc ps2 and 360.

The problem lies in the fact that the 360 wasn't in direct competition with the ps2. Also, the 360 got the game much later than the ps2 and pc.

Microsoft has stated that they don't want cross platforming with the ps3. And that is probably because ps3 is their direct competition

Unlikely ! Why make a game that has to run on Wii? I'm betting PS3, maybe XB and PC too.

This game will either be exclusive or multiplatform (pc, ps3, xbox360 or any combination of the 3). If it is multiplatform, it will not be able to be implemented on the Wii due to technical constraints. Unless they "dumb down" the game to the Wii's level, I don't see them bringing it to the Wii.

However, they may release different versions of the game, one for the high-definition platforms (ps3, xbox360, pc) and one for the wii.

Who knows though, only time will tell.

My guess though, either Playstation 3 exclusive (since they've had so much work done on the Playstation 3 platform already with this engine), or multiplatform between PC, PS3, XBOX 360 (or any combination of the three).

I think it will probably be a multiplatformer, which explains their emphasis on the Crystal Tools as a cross platform engine. If they can achieve cross platform gameplay for the MMORPG, it will be quite a feat.

I doubt they will make Wii version it will most likely be Xbox 360 PS3 and PC. I still play Final Fantasy XI and every time the fans want something awesome SE says they would love to add that feature but the limitations of the PS2 prevent us from implementing that. For example fans have asked why they don't just add a few new character models into the game and SE's response was the PS2 limits things like that. I highly Doubt they will hold back their new next gen MMO by making a Wii version unless they could find a way around the limitations the Wii would present,

i'm still wondering what Square meant with some parts of the CT engine work on the Wii hardware.

its a shame they wont give away details.
but i doubt Wii will have a MMO....unless nintendo comes up with a HDD.

@darkshiz
Models and such are most likely build in HD( as in hi poly-count or nurbs modeling) then converted to the specific " platform ".
i take the CT being complex on its own......so i don't really think it will affect the 360 or PS3 version if Wii got one too...they would need to slim the engine down anyway...and i see no reason why they want to do that for the PS360....

but like i said i don't think we will see MMO's unless we get a HDD.

then again.....if SE said so......
