PlayStation bounces back; Secret game sneak peek

It was hard not to spot the optimism beaming from both Sony execs and developers about the future at the Game Developers Conference last week.

The concerns and hushed whispers at last year's GDC about whether Sony had made fatal errors with the platform's launch have given way to positivity.

Mark Rein of Epic said he had never doubted that PlayStation 3 would be anything other than a success. Of course Epic did release Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3. "We've surpassed what Halo 3 offered," said Mark Rein.

In term of what's to come for the PS3, BBC New reporter Darren Waters was given a sneak peek at titles in the works in London two weeks ago.

In addition to Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2, Darren was shown a trailer -- under strict Non Disclosure Agreement terms -- for a game not due out till 2009. Darren doesn't mean to be a tease but he was sworn to absolute secrecy. All he can say is that he was left speechless after been shown the footage.

I don't know about everyone else but i was very impressed by resistance fall of man. More impressed than i was perfect dark and a lot of the other titles that were out on the 360 at the time. Impressiveness essentially ceased once gears of war hit and i was forced to buy a 360 lol. motorstorm confirmed for 08 and with 4 player split screen. Thats all i disliked about the first one so i can say with 100% certainty that my purchase is a sure thing. I don't care if its a system seller or not as long as it has split screen am getting it. My guess for the 2009 title has to be GOW3. What other ip could sony have that can get anyone so excited. For those who were thinking sony spilled all their beans alraedy i laugh at you. There are still many titles cooking under sony worldwide game studios. However if its a new ip which it sounds like i really don't know but that would be even better imo cus thats just one more confirmed exclusive for ps3

@PWNSAUCE yea good point. GOW3 should be in san diego. Eight days or getaway 3 are under london studios. I am keeping my fingers crossed for eight days. The trailer they showed though probably fake is probably the best game i have ever seen. I always show that video to my friends when they want to buy a ps3 thats one of the first vids i recommend. Since they are my friends i do warn them it may be fake but considering what guerrilla could do with killzone sony london should definetly be able to do that with eight days

If Motorstorm 2 is a sandbox game then it will do what Burnout Paradise could not do. It would give a soul to the game. Burnout Paradise doesn't even have people in the cars. It's like playing hotwheels. The crashes got old quick and Motorstorm 2 will bring the fun back into crashes.

it doesn't in anyway take the focus from gran turismo but i have to say i am very excited for it. i doubt it can be heavy rain or GOW actually as those games have already been announced and he did say Phil Harrison tried to deny the game initially so i am guessing its a title sony hasnt officially announced yet. Really nice to know motorstorm 2 will make it in time for xmas. Not so much pressure on GT to make it this yr anymore as long as they make it early next yr

I think it's a new IP. These games are big. I remember in an interview last year with Sony Europe VP, the interviewer asked him what he thought Sony's biggest games were? - KZ2? LBP? Now that I think about it, it could be heavy rain. I think this was the title sony was talking about when they said can games make you cry and this fits the description with "story-telling and immersion."

I think Heavy Rain will have alot of immersion and story telling. I don't know what other game it could be, maybe one of the Rockstar exclusives or A game from the team that created ICO. It could also be the Getaway becuase I think the graphics on the ps2 version looked good.

I think that comment was taken out of context...Rein has said in numerous interviews that 'they had surpassed Halo 3, from a UGC standpoint'...he has never called out Halo 3 like that, but only compared the mod support for UT3 compared to that of Halo 3 (one of the only console shooters to have UGC support of any kind)...

and from that area...Ut3 is a clear winner...everything else is entirely subjective...

Halo is just a hyped game. People will buy anything that says Halo on the front. Ie: Halo war, ok there are people who likes RTS game on a console, I HATE IT, but the game is gona sell 7 millones in less than a month, just because it says HALO. Come on people, Halo is a good game. But it's the same every thing, just with new weapons, better graphics and well...that it.

Games, like UT3 are something knew. (i know it isnot that good It get bored after a time) But things like mods on console, are the future.

I really don't know what games I'm gonna buy this year. I really don't have that much money. I might use the lack of games in the earlier months(like march-april) to preorder some of the games coming in the latter parts of this year. And these are just going off exclusives alone. I still have to get multiplatform games like GTA4, soul calibur, silent hill 5, and the star wars game. at least 15 or so games.
