Gears of War 2 Tech Demo Shown with Over 100 Enemies on screen - First Images

"11:11: A video is showing of Gears of War with hundreds of enemies running down the road to show off new tech. Water and splash effects are shown, again using Gears of War on updated engine.

I think they wanted to be careful of treating the news as a reveal. They were showing off an updated version of the Unreal Engine 3. The headline is kind of misleading. Gears 2 was announced, but I don't think they are treating this as the big reveal. Let's wait and see how things end up. Maybe the reveal won't come for several more months. Its too early to tell. I can't wait for Gears 2 either, but let the developers decide when its ready.

First off, Epic's main focus for GDC is selling off the Unreal Engine to other companies so what they want to show and talk about isnt their finished game but rather the tools they use. Hence why they have tech demo's. This is what other developers want to see...not any kind of game trailer.

So, nobody should have expected anything other than tech demos and the announcement of the game. I have NO DOUBT we will be seeing a TON of Gears of War 2 at E3 including possible playable builds.

Whilst I am as excited about a fresh Gears as any other 360 owner, it pointless to say 'The 360 08 lineup sure is getting "bigger"' as it plainly didn't.

Everyone expected GOW2 and everyone expected Fable 2, and everyone expected Ninja Gaiden 2. These are the games that have been touted as the big hitters for the 360 this year. So the lineup hasn't grown at all.

I think when the (correct) excitement for Gears and Fable dies down, people will see this keynote speech as disappointing. There were no surprise announcements, no new games, and no hardware news or hints of price cuts. Those who's analysis of this year have judged the 360 lineup to be too small, will find no reason to re-appraise their assessment.

I'm sure I'm gonna love some of the 360 titles we get this year, but this GDC has not blown my socks off at all. Any company using the cheesy soundbite " for the people, by the people." is on decidedly shaky ground, surely!!!

Common guys, despite all our excitement for Gears and Fable, aren't you just a bit disappointed that there was nothing that you didn't already expect? I've been reading loads of people saying 'wait for surprises at GD'C - I waited, but there were no surprises.

but I kinda loved the part where there wasnt a lot of enemies but they were as hard as crap (at least in insane). Unless they mean you have to kill them with a big robot or vehicle of some sort.

I dont think it would be as fun to have 100 enemies coming towards you and u shooting them blindly (BTW I havent read or seen the pics, I know I should comment after I read and such but I have to go quick, Chemistry Exam soon O.O)

Dead Rising, like HS or Lair had a lot of characters, but we dont know how smart they were.

If Gears of War 2 has proper AI that operates together, then that will certainly be a big deal.

If not, then it will be like HS or Lair, the sort of background models.

Congrat but everyone knew this game was coming this year.This game would make me buy a 360 but i have a issue with all the RROD BS that Microsoft can't seem to get fixed & bending there customer over about the whole HD is going to be need in the future,so i will pass until that issue is resolved.But everyone know that if PS3 push MGS4 back to the same date as GEARS,Gears would be a after though & you know it.But i still think KillZone 2 going to be better.

There has been a lot of press saying that FF is being delayed to 2010. Its probably not going to ship this year. Square Enix needs to deny that rumour before you get confident about seeing Final Fantasy this year.

IF you know gears at all 8 enemies is too much to deal with giving the track record on how much ammo is use when cover is in use along ith the locusts AI. HS has 1000 enemies on screen? Where? I'd like to see it. I played HS and Its has the worst framedrops i ever seen in any non-Ubisoft title(Lets not even talk about how the Havok engines drains the limited Memory of the PS3 when you have to fight in the pit without killing the attackers while food and fruits is being toss in the pit.).

AS far as Resistance go Please PS3 owners do not get hype. According to you guys it would just be another FPS if it was on Xbox right? Puhleeze 1000 enemies on screen in a FPS would be unheard of unless they did'nt have any AI.

To those of you talking about HS with 1000 enemies on screen, those are just guys in the background with no AI. They're scripted which uses no processor power or anything, it's like running a movie in the background.

I played HS and didn't see 1000 enemies. I didn't finish the game, but I got to the part where you shoot the bow at the incoming catapult things.

But those are the game equivalent of trees. They didnt have AI.

It had like 10,000 on-screen enemies at once, who cares if Gears of War has 100 -- the AI wasnt any good anyway.

Singleplayer was excellent.
Gears 1 had some frame drops with only a few enemies on screen, i wonder how they will manage hundreds of enemies with good ai and detail?
Shadows looks better than gears 1 but other than that i didnt notice any huge differences YET.
