Hey, Microsoft - What's Up With Too Human And Peter Jackson's Halo Project?

Patrick Klepek Writes:

Sparked by news that Xbox exec. John Schappert is moving on from Microsoft to mosey back towards Electronic Arts, I combed through my E3 intervew with Schappert, in search of information I might have left out. During our chat, I asked Schappert about the status of Peter Jackson's still-mysterious Halo project and the future of Too Human.

I liked Too Human. In fact, the only significant flaw I had with the game was the stupidly long cutscene you had to watch every time you died before you get back into the action. Other than that, I had a whole lot of fun with it, as I've had with every other Silicon Knights game (Blood Omen and Eternal Darkness remain among my favorite all-time videogames). Too Human wasn't their best effort, but I would still very much like them to continue on with the proposed trilogy.

Killzone 1 wasn't a critical success yet Killzone 2 went on to become one of the best console shooters currently available.

Just sayin'.

i remember b4 too human came out, xbox only owners were yelling at the ps3 fanboys about its pure awesomeness and how it was gonna be a huge trilogy like halo and then it came out, and well......silence had never been more deafening.

1.6 - sales aren't the point.
The point is that no one talkes about these games anymore now that they're released, even though before hand they were what was going to kill the 360.

Because too human actually sold pretty well with over 500K.

How many got 6?

1.7 - yeah i guess so Xi
but.....how many of those games got 6s? disregard haze (and you forgot lair), it was a mistake, horrible game. but Based on your comment i guess you weren't there, at the time ps3 owners were still looking for a defining game, xboxers had halo and gears and said that too human was gonna pwn them or at least be in their range, ps3 owners had nothing, i think when your'e in that position you're entitled to wishful thinking. what was the last ps3 game that got scored that low though?

Name one off-road racer on 360 that's actually better than MotorStorm. I dare you.

EDIT: You have no answer to my question, so you try to ask me an unrelated question? Bravo... >_>

Also, the exact same thing could be said about the 360.

1.9 - how many exclusives can you name for the ps3 in the last 5 months?
Because I can only think of killzone and infamous.

edit, I was refering to the person above you, because he was asking about poor scoring exclusives on the ps3 lately. And thanks the the answers below I can gladly present cross edge and kung fu caos. But neither MLB or Yakuza outscored halo wars, and in relative terms even infamous isn't out pacing halo wars in terms of review scores.

As for your question, what about dirt?

None at the moment or ever on 360, but rally sport (in my opinion)on the original xbox was better than any off road game to date. Now you tell me what RtS on PS3 is better than Halo Wars?

So basically, I'll summarize what this article said.

"Anything new with Too Human or Peter Jackson and Halo?"
"Nope."

If you are looking for a "true" RTS (as opposed to TDs), I guess some people could say that RA3 (which is also on X360) is better than Halo Wars, of course, many would say that HW is better. Both are rather good...for console RTS anyway.

But yeah, the PS3 doesn't have any exclusive RTS that can compete with HW. But if you really want to go genre by genre, let me ask you, does the X360 have a better SRPG than Disgaea3 or Valkyria Chronicles (is it considered a SRPG?).

My point is, both consoles have their up and down, and both will have a great line-up for the rest of the year. Too bad for those who aren't willing to get both consoles.

Yes and I completely agree with you.

"Too bad for those who aren't willing to get both consoles."

Or for those that simply can't afford a second or third console. I'm picking up a new PS3 the day and date Last guardian launches.

Razer, while I could agree with you, when it comes to Dennis, I believe he deserves all the criticism he has been getting. He hyped Too Human as being the be all end all of gaming, the one game you must buy an X360 for and that you'll be enjoying more than cocaine. In the end, Too human was merely more than your usual sub-par action game, with a messy camera that needed quite some time to get used to(not a problem, however, I still don't understand why they couldn't use a more traditionnal one, as the gameplay would have been the same) and no challenge at all (sure, some enemies are hard, too bad you can simply come back to life, just like the latest Prince of Persia). The only "punishment" you had for dieing was the atrocious cutscene where the Valkyrie brings you back.

Had Dennis not acted like some kind of developping God, I would be ready to defend him.

4 - too human was fun.
I can't wait for the next one. The only problems with the game was a severe lack of polish due to it being released on a new engine without being complete. The extreme difficulty, the ability to get hit and take damage during finishers and the length of the death cutscene.

Given more time it would've been a great game.

A couple changes to the menu system in too human 2 so that you could get a better grasp of your stats and the effects of armor. As well as more class specific spells, 4 player co-op and the ability to continue your first character and I'd be all over it.

Didnt Too Human take like 10 years to make?
Shut this user up Let user speak
Xi - 169 days 2 hours ago
4.2 - No.
it was in development for 2-3 years, slightly longer then the average development time for a game, while the original premise and the concept may have been 10 years old.

And it was required to switch engines, and multiple console platforms.

too human began as development on the ps1, but towards the end of the ps1's life cycle. They decided on making for the ps2 instead, which meant making a new engine, in total there was about 1 year of work done. They then got into a contract with nintendo, development stopped entirely. The game finally resurfaced as the too human on xbox 360.

It's like saying undertow took 20 years to make because it's based off of drawing the lead designer did as a kid.

I heard about this game when I was fourteen, in 04, and then suddenly people stopped talking about it. No doubt it was primed to be one of the premier xbox 360 titles and the devs were talking a lot about it, but when the game came out I was very disappointed with the reviews.

I'm not the kind of guy that likes to judge simply by reviews, but being as I do not have a lot of money, reviews actually help me a lot in picking which games to buy and which games to avoid. One example of a game that I ignored for two years was Assassin's creed because IGN gave it a 7.7 or something and that didn't sit well with me. I think even too human got a better score but I may be wrong. Anyways, I played AC and I think it's an excellent game with repetitiveness being the only drawback (but as an avid FPS shooter gamer I am used to that).

Microsoft actually spent over 90 million bucks on Too Human development, and I wouldn't be surprised if the debacle of its failure has forced Microsoft's hand into not supporting the trilogy that was originally planned.
