EA confirms 'small team' working on Mirror's Edge 2

A 'small team' is working on Mirror's Edge 2, EA has confirmed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, the outspoken Patrick Soderlund, who as senior vice president at EA Games Europe oversees all European game development, said he was "excited" by what developer DICE, where he is based, will do with the game.

I hope they add three things:

1) A story (there was none to speak of in the first one) and
2) Less of the anime cutscene crap; they sucked. If you want animated cutscenes, do it like inFamous.
4) An online mode. It would be so easy; for example, imagine a messenger bag in the middle of a bunch of rooftops. 16 players are spaced evenly from each other and the same distance from the bag. Whoever gets the bag first must take it to a specified location. The other players must attack that person to get the bag and bring it to their location. The catch is they players without the bag can't attack each other. This would even work with small teams.

Maybe it's a small team because they're not rebuilding the engine? Anyway, I'll probably check this one out. I finally picked up the first game for $30 and thought it was pretty great. The only two things I'd fix are the rampant screen-tearing, which made some of the quicker large scale moments really confusing, and the inability to play chapter time trials offline.

Or maybe it's a small team because DICE are currently working on about 20 Battlefield games at the moment.

I actually think the time trials and speedruns were perfect for the game instead of multiplayer. It fit perfectly.

Either way I'm excited for a sequel. The first is a under rated gem.

Small team is a good thing, Mirrors edge looked great, better than most games. People forget how little in terms of people you actually need to make a good game. What Mirrors Edge lacked was...

Story.
Progression.
Variety.

These are three of it's mian hurdles which with this small team can be overcome, imagine learning new abilities, opening up new areas etc, that would be cool. Even and open world game.

Mirrors Edge has the ability to be great, like many E.A games but like E.A some lack the final but oh so important bits.

I wish them luck and I will be buying just because Mirrors Edge was so fresh.

What do you mean by 'variety'? Can you specify? I thought Mirror's Edge was full of variety of locations and maps.

Location usually rooftops, I'd like some gritty stuff.
Enemies- Few difference
The fact you have EVERYTHING at the start.

3.3 - mrv321,
I completely disagree with the third point since the fact that the game is completely skill based is why I loved it so much. Don't get me wrong, I like games where you have lots of upgrades as well, but I just don't think it would suit the playstyle of Mirror's Edge. Basically the whole game I spent learning Faith's abilities and limitations and making this a variable would make it very difficult to consistently keep the flow going.

Another point is the actual story mode was only a very small part of the game for me since I spent a majority of my time 3 starring all of the time trials and completing the speed runs. The story mode was only very basic training for this because earning 3 stars on each trial requires thinking outside of the box with moves and maneuvers which you could barely imagine at the start of the game

I loved the look and feel of the first one I think it needs a story and less frustrating parts (I got stuck at certain points once or twice that were extremely annoying).

Co-op is needed in the game. Longer story. More eye catching locations. etc.

All I need is a Trackmania style multiplayer mode and the sequel would be pretty much perfect for me.

I am a huge fan of this game, but that being said it wasn't without it's fair share of problems.

The first lacked a story with substance almost to the point were you didn't care about what faith was doing or why. As others have said, a deeper story would be nice.

The "trial and error" methodology of the game was counter intuitive to the "go with the flow" gameplay style. I hope that will be addressed.

The time trail 3 star times were way to unforgiving, unmercifully so. They do state in the book that its star: Normal star: Hard: star Expert. I think that it should be more Easy, Normal, Hard. Personally, I was tired of running along on track to the end and have to restart because I accidently crouched or got stuck on an object. Some may like it but I don't like blood shooting from my eyes because the wall jump failed to register.

I wouldn't really call getting 3 stars that unforgiving since on many of them it's possible to get 5 or even 10 seconds below the target time. If anything I'm disappointed that there wasn't a trophy/achievement for 3 starring every time trial because it would have made my platinum trophy more unique.

Also if your wall jumps are failing to register then your technique it possible slightly wrong since I was fairly soon able to pull off basic moves with ease pretty much every time.

I hated the demo, found it very frustrating and that is as far as I got. I will give it another go if they release a demo of Edge 2, as so many others seamed to have enjoyed it.

Dont do that, if your going to announce it, do it when you have a trailer like for the first. You're just bringing the whole expectations down when you announce it like this, then that its a 'Small team' just adds to that... me and my mates at uni love mirrors edge, it stands out with its eye catching colours and has a fun concept, i think it deserves some sort of excitement being brewed, especially when AC2 gets that and they were met with similar bipolar reactions and a similar game concept.

Thats the first time in a FPS that it felt like it was me running it was a smooth flow to the game it felt natural it was a step forward for the first person games a breathe of fresh air I'm waiting for a marvel first person game with 30 to 50 mp and you can pick teams and get team bonuses like if you pick the brother hood or all xmen on one team with comic book locations in the game down loadable characters." I will keep dreaming"

The first one was easily one of my all-time favourite gaming experiences. My only real complaint was the combat. It interrupted the flow of the parkour which is what the game was sold as and what sold me on the game. I hope they keep the look of the game in tact. It was truly beautiful.

I couldn't care less about the story as long as the gameplay is there 100%.
