Yamauchi: "We could probably release GT5 at any time"

Gamereactor sat down with long time Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi at Sony's E3 lounge to discuss Gran Turismo on PSP and Gran Turismo 5. On the subject of the latter Yamauchi revealed that development was at a stage where they could probably release it at any time, but that he was looking to achieve perfection before release.

"but that he was looking to achieve perfection before release."

If I was him, I would do the same.

1.2 - Polyphony Digital........
I think, GT5 is going to be released in 2009, it`ll be right before Xmas. I think there will be a PS3 price drop and there will be a GT5 bundle. The release of the FULL GT5 will be a epic time for the PS3. I can`t wait. None compare to Polyphony Digital when it comes to racing, none.

1.3 - im cool with them taking all the time they need...
and as he said you " you would wait for something worth waiting for right?", however i would have loved to have got some more details about gt5, i know they didnt so they could give the psp version some limelight, aswell as the pspgo, but just me personally i would have been over the moon if they had given us some more details, like how far does the damage modeling actually go? will it effect car performance? how many tracks? cars? andor other features that will be in gt5, i know they kinda did with the trailor, atleast we know it will have nascar, wrc etc so thats awesome, i dont doubt for a second that it will be totally mind blowing! i just cant wait. oh actually does anyone know if the pspgt has damage? would kinda give an indication towards the ps3 version.

GT5 and GT PSP are going to take up a lot of my time. They are going to define what a true racing game is.

Here's a better idea...

Release it on the same day Forza 3 is released.

Not being a fanboy ... but it's because Turn 10 has been talking sh1t for the past 1 week.

It's the translator that doesn't give a fu***k =D

hahhahah!

ontopic: yeah, can't wait for GT5! He won't release it until it's worthy of a release... we all know that after a prolouge comes one hell of a packed game. My guess would be around 1000 cars, now that they are doing both Nascar and Rally.

"But you would be waiting for something that is worth waiting for"

I couldn't have said it better myself. If we get it this holiday season that would be very cool. If we get it next summer that would be acceptable too. However, I do know this: when the game will be released it will be up the the standards of PD which are probably way higher than my own.

So, take your time and make it as flawless as possible.

I agree. Wait until Turn 10 decides a release date for Forza three and release a press announcement the next day that GT5 will be released on the same date.

GT5's release date is in the hands of Sony's marketing team and we all know how good Sony's marketing is. They are trying to figure out the best time and right bundles and prices to make the most money possible. Any came can always be worked on more and made perfect. GT5P was a great tease but it's getting really old really quick and it's online racing features are laughable.

Gt5 will release in late 2010, early 2011. You will all see.

Im just hoping that Gt5 has a new physics system as previous systems like those in gtp and gt4 are absolutely terrible and are grid based. I would love to see gt5 incorporate a Tire deformation based physics system. A physic system based on the tires and the pavement, not just on the weight of the vehicle and the surface pattern. And for the love of god where is the body roll in gt games, the suspension in cars are so stiff this affects the physics alot.

You obviously havent played GT5P on Professional settings.

10 laps on soft tyres, you can feel you're loosing grip on the last few lap.

If you're off to the gravel... you need at least 1 lap to clean the tyres for optimum performance.

Of course what i mentioned isnt featured in Time Attack mode... only in normal race.

And believe me when i say this, as a long time GT4 player... you cant play GT5P Pro mode by playing it like GT4.

I believe you misunderstood me, tire deformation is vastly different than tire wear. Tire deformation is when the tire flexes and warps on the pavement according to the tire pressure, type of tire, surface material, car weight, and suspension system. This has never been in any gt game , in fact this was in forza 2 but a preliminary version of this, in forza 3 a fullblow tire deformation physics engine will be established. This is the first time that it will be in a game outside of a fullblown pc simulator. This was achieved by Turn 10 having a partnership with every single tire manufacturer in the world, and doing real world testing, pretty exciting stuff, a games physics engine is only as good as its tire physics.

Take a look at the video , See how much a tire deformation system adds to a car sim, it affects so many other things within the actual physics, everything from the cars body roll, to the suspension.

No problem, m8, Im glad forza 3 is coming out the gate so fiercely this competition is good, its gonna ensure that Gt 5 will come out being an amazing product also, now that there is competition they will not just give us a rehash with bad physics like GT4.

Suspension montion is better than forza. heres a proof:

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

maybe forza uses tyre defformation visually but you can't know if gt5p using this in physic engine but don't show it visually.

One more thing is there in forza air tunnels ? No ? It's way more crucial than tyre defformation.

@Everyone about Above ^^^: It's strange watching the deterioration of a 360 fanboy, falling further and further toward insanity. It is like the guy across the hall who I thought was weird, until he started walking everywhere in barefeet... even in the rain; And then I knew he was insane!

Ok Yamauchi. I want to see this in the store shelves next week. any changes you want made will have to be done via patches. Just look at Socom: Confrontation. they released the game way before it was done and they are still working on it today. I want GT5 now or Forza 3.

Which ever comes first will get my money...... also the one that comes second. jaja

I want PD to take there time with GT5 also. On the PSP version though, it sounds like the game has a good pace to it, being that its a portable game. October 1st cant come soon enough.

As for GT5 coming out this year, I just don't think that Sony will launch two GT titles in one year. First because GT for PSP is a great way to launch the PSP Go! and second because the sales of both of these titles at once could affect potential sales for each version.

5 - so true...
they could release the game next month if they wanted to but the only reason they r holding bak so much is because of ps3z install base......

if Poly Digital wantz to sell GT5 like they did on ps2 they no they need a bigger install base n by april of 2010, itll b around wut 33 mill??

Actually, when GT3 was released it had a similar install base and went on to sell something like 13 million units.

Personally, I dont think they are waiting for anything other than the completion of their product. GT games have always held a superb shelf life. The game will sell over the course of the ps3's life span and I wouldn't doubt a 13-15 million user base when all is said and done.

When Gran Turismo 3 came out, the PS2 had less of an install base than the PS3 currently has. The PS2 had only been out a year at the time and it had similar teething troubles to the PS3.

5.3 - GT5 doesn't need an install base
This is the type of game that creates an install base . There are a lot of people who will pick up a PS3 when they get wind that GT5 is releasing, and even more who will pick up the console and the game when it releases.
Shut this user up Let user speak
Syronicus - 175 days 16 hours ago
5.4 - The theory of needing a bigger install base to sell GT5 more is not even close to reality.
Reality is, more people buy GT games through the course of the console life. The series has always had legs. GT3 is proof of that. GT5 will sell like hotcakes the day it is released and will continue to sell great through the years to come. Why? Simply put, it will be the best looking racer for years to come. You cannot disregard the GT fanbase. It is much stronger than people might think it is.

November/December is the right time, after GT psp and UC2 have seen the sunlight and coupled with PS3 price drop. It will be mayhem.

BTW, fellow ps3 gamers, I have heard pretty good things about EA's offering (NFS:shift). It could be very well worth a try, while you wait for the big one to pop up.

So basically the game is done. All they're doing is polishing and removing bugs to make the 'real driving simulator' one hell of an experience.

If by any chance GT5 releases this year, then I will buy it 12 o'clock midnight at the release date. I am guessing that if GT5 were to release this year it will release in December.
