Battle.net 2.0 Paid Service a Possibility?

Blizzard CEO and President Mike Morhaime evaded a question in the public Q&A during a Activision Blizzard conference call held outside the boundaries of E3 2009. Are there any plans to monetize Battle.net 2.0 service? Mike Morhaime limited to answer: "I'm not ready to talk about that today".

they wanted to split starcraft 2 into 3 different games
and now, if they ever think about doing this.

trust me. when you play this game, you wont care. if you have to pay, you'll pay. just like with WoW and XBL. people pay b/c they love it. and i promise you, your going to love the online gameplay---ALOT.

Uh-oh, sounds like it's a real possibility then.

The thing is, it's unlikely in my opinion that they will, but WHY don't they actually just say it will be free?

They have a huge M$ ad deal, what else do they need?

They said long ago it would be under the new battlenet service and p2p. Why are people acting like this is something new?

Not wanting to talk about it doesn't mean they are going to charge anything.

That said, if they do make it a subscription to play custom maps, I think most of their audience will evaporate. It's fun to play on bnet, but it isn't so fun that I want to pay a subscription. It's not quite like WoW, where they are updating the content - it's just matching people up on a server.

You know how Blizzard wants to be more like Steam... well they should try a bit harder. I can play L4D and TF2 for free, why would I pay to play a TD or an AoS clone?

I'm not really against paid service as long as it's worth the money. However I can't think of anything yet, I bet Blizzard did. I just hope they won't turn something obvious free to profit.

This could only mean special features like e sports or things like that but i dont think they will require you to pay for basic mp games. They are not retarded to do so.

12 - I seriously doubt it
Trying to charge for an RTS would be suicide. That would be a quick way to kill their massive world wide fanbase.

I'll be playing very little of SC2 if that's the case.

If after all these years of waiting for a new SC title, and finally it it ends up sub-based, I don't think I'm going to bother with any post-2002 Blizzard games anymore. All I can do is hope that they don't pull down the older games anytime soon or suddenly charge for those.
