The Big E3 PC Disappointment

So much could have happened, for example Microsoft could have quite as easily solved its dying Games for Windows label; make a few announcements regarding new games and new features to the label, but nope. None was to exist. The last 2 years before this E3 had quite a far bit of news, with games being previewed and lots given to look forward to. But of course Microsoft had a reason to push gaming on the PC, Vista.

Did I miss something? PC gamers have to wait until August when all the European countries do their gaming expos.

Unless you are a company like Id or Blizzard which host their own massive events. (you know, because PC gaming is so dead that individual companies can afford to throw their own events)

Your consoles are imitating our PCs. Not the other way around. And there is a reason for that - PC gaming is a better experience.

Well of course PC gaming is being pushed aside. Would you want to create games for a mass of gamers who would most likely rip you off by torrenting and d/l the game you spent thousands of hours on creating? There is only money in MMO's because they require you to pay monthly fees, I know this because I play WoW often. But if you release a game that, the day of release, can be ripped and shared, you lose out on a sale hence, you lose money and thus, a deficit for number of those who play the game to those who actually purchased it exists..which downright pi$$es developers off. Console gamers have to buy their games and cant download them without paying, yet...(shifty eyes)...

EDIT: I like the picture of this thread haha, has anyone';s key ever popped out like that? LOL!!

I love pc gaming but anyone with eyes can see that you are indeed correct:(. Gfx card prices have just gotten out of control. I remember paying 315usd for a geforce ddr the day it came out and it was the top dog card. Now the top end cards cost 5-600 and you need 3 of them.

2.3 - For people who think graphic cards are so over priced.....
I know you can buy a graphic card for $500 easily but something like a radeon 4850 will beat an 8800 easily and can be had for $165 bucks right now

http://www.ncix.com/product...

So to say graphic cards are way overpriced is wrong. I just wanted to throw that out there as a defense for PC gaming. I only game on PC, but I still recognize that console is destroying us right now. What we need is for some really great new titles to come out for pc, otherwise, all we will have left is mmo games.....

Games are better on PC. PC's are just waaay more expensive. Bob Dole has never played a game that was better on a console than the PC. Sure there might be a select few, but consoles aren't going to have Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.

A gaming PC is more expensive than a typical console, but it's not as much as everybody makes it out to be. I'd say $600 at the very least to build a gaming-capable PC that will play everything at a good frame rate. Around $800 to $1,000 to build a very powerful PC that will play everything at pretty much max settings, give or take a few things. You just have to know where to shop, which takes a bit more work than simply deciding on which console SKU to buy. But I think the end result is worth it. I certainly have more fun with my PC than I do with my consoles.

But if you have the money, definitely go with both PC and console gaming. There's no point in being a fanboy. :)

Gaming is the only thing that keeps Vista alive. And even that is getting less popular. So, no point buying a Windows PC, go with Apple, much better computers and software.

I agree in some degrees, but to be honest Windows is strong in other areas. Apple just are not upto the task with main selling points such as the range of other software. Working on RG I use so many products that apple simply can't provide me. Ubuntu however works better in that degree.

if mac was priced like a pc, i would adgree with u. not everybody can afford a mac. and dumbasses like u gobble up the mac and think its all that better and blah blah. i have mac os x leopard running on my pc and i dual boot it with windows xp. its nice and all, but when it comes to software choices, its slim compared to windows xp or vista. and dont talk about the price. i see 2 of the same usb network card selling. one for pc and one for mac. the one for the mac cost 10 to 20 dollars more than the one for pc. wanna know what the differences were between the 2. the drivers. thats all. apple knows dumbasses like u will think just cuz its apple its worth the money. it is not. ur paying a bag of money for the same "crap". so we r all in the same boat. ur just dumber

oh and to back up my statement about the usb network cards being over priced...the name is the card is hawking hwug1 and hwug1a for mac.

I wouldn't say the consoles had that much of a sterling showing at E3 either. The fact is E3 has become nothing more than an opportunity for the 3 console companies to beat their chest and promise rubbish that isn't actually going to hit the market for another 2-3 years.

The main reason there is no major PC stuff at E3 is down to the fact no one wants to promote it as a platform. The only company that could do it ie Microsoft doesn't want to overshadow their xbox by showing stuff on the PC that blows away anything the consoles have.

Yet still we get people on here going "ha ha the pc is dying" just because of E3. I really would love to know where you are getting that impression, we are getting nearly EVERY console game on the PC, minus a few PS3 titles that I don't care for anyway. Plus we are getting at least 100 titles that are exclusive to the PC platform this year alone. PC users are more informed we don't need a pretty conference to see what we are going to be getting, we educate and inform ourselves.

PC gaming will always be superior to console gaming, simply by rule of evolving technology. Anyone who disagrees simply can't afford. Go ahead and click disagree, as much fun as console gaming is, PC will never fail.

Someone with some sense. I'm tired of this "PC DYING" crap. It is like the cool thing to say nowadays. The only thing that is hurting pc gaming right now is piracy and how companies are dealing with it. Some just stop making games for PC and others do the stupidest solution and add more copy protection that hurts the legit consumer more then the pirates. Go read the UBISOFT USES ILLEGAL CD CRACK TO FIX BUG story on the pc section for the ultimate LULZ. http://n4g.com/industrynews...

Valve has the right idea. PC gaming will never die, we create the games and innovations that trickle down to console gaming. I don't have anything against any type of gaming, console/pc fanboy wars are the stupidest ish on the internet... Let's all be fanboys of gaming and help it keep growing and become more mainstream. Can't wait for more gaming tournaments on TV with big money prizes. I'm a proud GAMING fanboy, all gaming.

Quakecon. Bob Dole's friend got drawn in the quickdraw and got his ass handed to him because A: He sucks and B: He was really really drunk off of the free beer they were giving away at the closing ceremonies. This year they're giving away 10k to the quickdraw winner, if Bob Dole were you he'd go to quakecon and drink some free beer and hopefully win some money. At the very least you'd get some free swag and a bunch of free BAWLS.

8.3 - Please define "superior".
If you mean technologically and graphically, then sure, but when you factor in value, ease of use and accessibility, consoles make up for the lack of having the absolute latest tech.

And you're right, I can't afford it! And so can't many others - so for us consoles are "superior" - at least those of us with limited gaming funds get to play!

And as much as I'd like a cutting edge PC to game on - for RTS and Diablo III, I am enjoying my consoles very much.

10.1 - Dumbest statement I've heard in a while...
FPS's are the exact reason NOT to play on a 360. a gamepad is absolutely horrible for FPS's. the games have to be dumbed down by using auto aim and slowing the pace down just to compensate. and for what?...just so people can sit on their couch to play.

well guess what..you can do that with a keyboard and mouse too. just make em wireless and put them on a tray and your good. i do that now and it works great. if you don't want to play with a KB+M then don't, but at least give the option.

the bottom line is that as long as there are FPS's and RTS's, PC's will be around for gaming. there are too many gamers that demand the precision and speed that a gamepad will NEVER be able to duplicate.

if MS and/or Sony would make all their games compatible with a KB+M, then I'll start entertaining the idea that PC gaming could die.

there's a ton of other reasons why the PC is still a viable choice for gaming, but to me, the biggest is the KB+M.

I have an xbox 360 it just sits there gathering dust. I find playing fps games far more satisfying on the PC, no framerate issues, much higher resolutions and a far greater amount of control. I watch vids of people playing FPS games with a joypad and it just makes me laugh the way they all stutter about.

I guess when you pay $300 for a console you go into full blown fan mode and will not accept that there is something better out there.

11 - Some over the top comments....
A fcouple of things....

1 - The price of reasonable spec gaming PC's are now far more affordable. You can get a C2D (E8200) and ATI 4850, this gives you the beginnings of a great system for not too much money.

2 - PC Gamers generally need less reminding of why they should be excited for games. When you think of the games that PC fans have got coming (DragonAge, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Fallout 3, Crysis warhead, FarCry2, along with a whole lot more) PC gamers know what they are waiting for, and don't need constant reminding unlike their console brothers who lack any sort of attention span.

12 - Just bought a new gaming PC
I just bought a Blackbird 002 PC and it totally blows away all my consoles and I have all three. Playing games like Unreal Tournament 3 on the console looks and plays like crap in comparison (not to mention I paid less for the PC game).

Thats a boneheaded statement considering console hardware is locked down, and by pc standards it would be no longer top of the line. So how much did your pc cost, sorry i'll take gaming on my 40 inch tv vs a 19 inch computer monitor.

Alot of former pc only devs have switched to making console games as well because the potential market is too large to ignore. The only thing coming out for pc, that i care about is diablo 3 and if it comes to console so much the better.

13 - E3 dissapointing for PC?
I may be missing something. Aren't all of Ubisoft's games coming to PC including Shaun White Snowboarding? Seems like they're pushing it pretty hard. Weren't Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3 there? There was also something called Spore that people seem to dig.

Sorry, but I'm not buying it. It's a shame that more people aren't reporting all the great PC stuff that was shown off, but I saw a lot of amazing PC games.

Just in defence of the title of this thread. I've been a big PC fan for many years, and I have to say still am. But I purchased a PS3 as a multmedia unit and to play games. The one thing that I do really like is the lack of fuss and issues the games have on the ps3 vs the pc. Anyone who plays games on a pc, which ever OS must admit this. Compatibility issues, troubleshooting, patches, hacks you name it, its part of PC gaming life. I'm now finding myself moving more towards buying more ps3 games as its simply less hassle.
