That was shocking...but really they didn't show anything that changes anything. There was no mention of Versus so we'll see if that remains exclusive. Before anyone loses their s$!t here there is nothing that really catapults MS ahead with anything here. Lips is like Singstar, there game show stuff is alot like Buzz!TV, avatars are like Mii's. The netflix deal is cool- but I don't pay for my 360 online so no dice there. If your not a fanboy counting bullet points that showing was pretty dry.

1) If FFXIII will be TIMED PS3 EXCLUSIVE, then Sony don`t lose. I mean, after we waited almost 3 years, who is going to wait another 1-1,5 year or more? =))
2) As long, as FFXIII won`t be downgraded because of x360, i`m HAPPY. Well, we will know only by release of FFXIII:versus, which is still EXCLUSIVE. :)

ONLY Final Fantasy XIII will be on the X Box 360. However, the PLAYSTATION 3 will have both Final Fantasy XIII AND Final Fantasy Versus XIII. AND also, 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII is NOT coming out in Japan because it won't sell well. Only both PS3 versions will be in Japan, US and EU. FFXIII will not be world wide.

this game will come out for the PS3 first in JPN, once that is done we might see the game out on 360 and PS3 in EU and NA, but that is a big might it might not release on the 360 until the game is complete on the PS3 for all versions, if you read the kotaku transcript they said it is timed exclusive to the PS3.

they also asked how many disk will it be on for the 360 and SE laughed at the question. also major nelson stated that the game might be downloaded to the HD and streamed from there, this sounds like MS is pulling crap out there butts to make this work and to reduce the amount of disk. Again this sounds looks and taste like a payoff, who would go to that extreme to make this game work...the JPN version will release next summer and the EU/NA version will release that fall...expect the 360 version in 2010...

This just brought a tear to my eye. It's similar to when Square sent a big f*ck you to Nintendo and made Final Fantasy 7 for the PS1. Now here we are and history is repeating itself. Most of Squares games are either multiplatform for the 360 or exclusive for the 360.

In fact that seems to be the theme for this whole generation. The 360 has the most 3rd party support this generation. Larger install base that buys more games. The 360 is easier and cheaper to develop for. They even somehow have managed to make the 360 start to appeal to the casual gaming audience.

Damn Microsoft just delivered the "ultimate" Dragon Punch to Sony today.

you all do realize that FFXIII is STILL coming out for the PS3. This will no doubt cause some xbox 360/Final Fantasy fans to think twice about buying a PS3 for this game, but for all the still undecided consumers who enjoy Final Fantasy, the PS3 will vasty be their console of choice for this game.

Several PS3 enthusiasts like me were introduced to the Final Fantasy franchise because of the Playstation brand, and just like with the PS3 sales when GTAIV was released (GTA francise was born on Playstation) PS3 console sales upon the release of FFXIII will be greater than xbox console sales.

This is certainly one less "Major Gun" for Sony, but it isn't like Sony lost FFXIII. All you guys here saying that now there is absolutely NO REDEMPTION for Sony now really need to look at the big picture.

The xbox 360 port will not come on a dozen DVD's. You know why? Because now FFXIII is going to be totally watered-down and gimped compared to what it was initially planned to be solely on the PS3.

That is what angers me the most. Now FFXIII is not going to be the 40-50gb Audio, Visual blu-ray masterpiece that everyone anticipated it to be. That is why it makes me angry. Something is really odd about this. Its just incredibly unexpected, considering the stance. In the past Square-Enix have said such things as "We believe we are the only company to use the Cell Processor to it's fullest", "When asked if we are developing with multi-platform in mind, the issue was never thought of. It was being developed just for ps3." Sony itself has put alot of money into Square-Enix. So why the sudden back-track?

No doubtedly Microsoft really really wanted this title. And obviously paid millions for it. And maybe Square-Enix needed it to go multi-platform in the end because production costs were too high. Something is severly odd for such a turnaround though. From them previosuly stating "It's exclusive to PS3".

There are a few things i can think of. I can't imagine after letting GTA4 go, Sony would be so careless as to let Final Fantasy XIII go. Maybe they were in on this deal too. Perhaps FFXIII is a timed exclusive for 360. Or maybe its only being released in specific territories for 360. But i believe the following is the most likely solution. Sony may have been part of this deal too. Microsoft get's Final Fantasy XIII, and PlayStation 3 gets this:

That was exactly what I was thinking. I suspect that maybe a few months ago, SquareEnix and SCE executives came together and had a discussion. The discussion involved the SE executives telling the SCE executives that development costs for FFXIII are really starting to rise, and that to make a profit on the game they need to create an xbox 360 port of the game.

No doubt SCE and the Playstation brand has been a HUGE factor in SquareEnix's financial gains and corporate risings, so to make it up to Sony for the loss of exclusivity of FFXIII, the SE executives told Sony that to make it up to them, they will officially go through with the FFVII remake and it will be exclusive to PS3.

We will not know for sure until tomorrow (which hopefully something like a FFVII remake will be announced) but I imagine that this COULD be the entire scenario.

Edit: I have also heard that FFXIII will only be available for the Xbox 360 in the American and European territories; FFXIII is still going to be PS3-exclusive in Japan.

The only real loser here is the FFXIII fan. They are going to have to make the game not as good to "dumb it down" to the XBox 360's pathetic wimpy and oh so inadequate hardware. Really. Like Sony didn't blatantly rip off force feedback or analog from Nintendo. Like Sony didnt rip off Home from Sims or Second Life. Like Sony isnt still trying to rip off features from Xbox Live. Or like Sony didn't throw in gimmicky 6-axis at the last moment to rip off the Wiimote too. Need I go on???

4.3: Are you kidding me?? This conference blew the doors off of last years.

Portal Exclusive, Exclusive Fallout DLC, Dashboard reboot, Rockband Exclusives, Game Show Channel, FFXIII, Geometry Wars 2 exclusive. This was nothing like last year when they just focused on what was announced.

The Xbox 360 is bringing it!! I'm sure we will hear more stuff as the week progresses.
