The Square Enix press conference has just began with a Q&A session. Everyone are focusing on the recent Final Fantasy XIII announcent, and when asked regarding Versus XIII Hashimoto said it is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Okay... I'm a little less pissed now.

Tmac5764d ago

Clarification on the versus title?

5764d ago
iamtehpwn5764d ago

Final Fantasy Versus XIII looks better than the main game anyway.

Statix5764d ago

I'm still pissed. Reason being that Xbox 360 is still on higher ground in terms of priority for Square Enix's support; Star Ocean 4 is _currently_ (may change in the future) still 360 exclusive. And Last Remnant is coming to 360 first.

I don't understand this sudden need for Squaresoft to suddenly go turncoat on the Playstation, especially after years of faithful loyalty and support between the two companies.

iamtehpwn5764d ago

Don't be too surprised.
They did the same sh*t to Nintendo in the 90's.
Square Enix makes Judas look like a saint.

XBOX 3605764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

Also, Kotaku's liveblog w/ the Square-Enix conference says 360 version of FF13 won't be released in Japan.

But seriously ... are you guys going to trust Square-Enix on exclusivity?

I mean every FF13 trailer before E3 08 said, "Only For PlayStation 3"

...Guess what?

sunnygrg5764d ago

they will just sell out themselves and loyal PS3 fans. Seriously, what is the point in obtaining exclusive games, when over time you are just going to lose it?

strotee5764d ago

Sadly, the dollar bill wins again. I'm willing to bet if PS3 had Wii sales then they'd laugh at the prospect of putting 13 on the 360. I would have figured MGS4 was enough evidence to stay exclusive.

chaosatom5764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

COME ON square, Use ps3's potential SPEs to make a better game.

Leathersoup5764d ago

I don't understand why everyone is so angry that a company would try to make money. It only makes sense for any company who isn't first party to go multiplatform.
Remember, Final Fantasy was originally Nintendo. Why isn't everyone angry with Square Enix for not publishing the game on the Wii?

Childish and immature.

Silellak5764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

It's all about money. This has nothing to do with loyalty, or Square betraying Sony, or any of that crap.

360 leads PS3 in the Western world.

For any game, it makes financial sense to release a game on the 360 as well as the PS3, as long as the following equation is true:

If X > Y, then Z

Where
X = Predicted profit from 360 sales
Y = cost of porting from PS3 to 360
Z = create 360 version of game

Why do you think there's no 360 version of FF13 in Japan? The cost probably doesn't justify the potential for profit, which, given the 360 user base in Japan, is pretty damn small.

Last generation and the generation before that, Sony so dominated its competition that releasing Final Fantasy for any other console just didn't make financial sense.

This generation, things are a LOT different for Sony. And 3rd party companies are going to realize that.

fenderputty5764d ago

which means that if Sony gave a damn, they would have secured this title like MS does. They clearly don't give a damn about the titles exclusivity.

Silellak5764d ago

Sony's greatest flaw this generation has always been overconfidence.

Overconfidence that millions upon millions of people would get the PS3 at the $600 'even without games'.

Overconfidence as to the relevance of GTA4.

And now overconfidence as to the relevance of FF13.

Glad to be a gamer5764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

This for me was one of the main reasons behind me wanting a Ps3 this will effect the console war dramtically if sales nos are anything to go by.

Gta4 and ff on the 360 not to mention so4 exclusivity. Times really have changed. This has really made me think twice about getting a Ps3 might get a new computer for spore(Looks/sounds amazing love the creture creator.)and rts/mmo games(love civ 4/wow but my laptop can't handle them to well.)

Statix5764d ago

The only reason Squaresoft turned on Nintendo back in the mid-90's was because Square saw the potential to make much better games with the PSX's disc-based format, while Nintendo stubbornly stuck with the cartridge, limiting the scope that Square have been able to achieve in their games. Their motive was primarily about making BETTER GAMES, at the time.

This move to support Microsoft has nothing to do with making better games or technical limitations.

Doppy5764d ago

I guess we need to see what surprises Sony has for us tomorrow. Microsoft and Square pulled a very snakey, but effective move. It all boils down to business. While Sony is more innovative than Microsoft, the fact remains is that Microsoft is better at business than Sony is.

Sony has the same old heads leading its company who still believe that this are still the same as when PS1 came out. They need to get rid of all the old heads and hire some new people help out with the business side of there company as a whole. Sony could and should be the largest electronics company in the world, but instead they are happy just fighting for the top spot instead of taking it.

I hate that Micorsoft got FF13, but it all boils down to business, just like you don't want to lose in a game Microsoft dosen't want to lose the gen.

CrazzyMan5764d ago

That means, we will see FULL usage of PS3 and will be able later to compare with main FFXIII to see, was it downgraded because of x360 or not.
I`m fine with that. =)

Thank God. I never even expected FF13 going to 360 at all, even though I've got a 360, FFXIII should have stayed PS3 exclusive, it's like Gears should always be on the 360.

fenderputty5764d ago

Even if it is still exclusive, which clearly means nothing coming from squares mouth, it's still a long way off. It's been postponed for work on other games.

Cartesian3D5764d ago

:P STILL ps3 exclusive ? Final fantasy titles wont come to 360? (remember BLANK PAGE statement)

he wants another amount of money for this title too ..

QueefyB5764d ago

wow for the complete final fantasy experience you will have to buy a playstation 3

Veryangryxbot5764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

said that FF Versus impressed them more than FF13.

If thats any indication...

Finally, SE better make up for todays slap with a HUGE announcement tomorrow and it better not be about FF Versus!

It better be. Cos Im pissed off right now. I had a long hard day at work. Im tired and I had a frikkin headache all day. All I want to do, was laugh at the bots with the disappointing MS conference. I was about to be proven correct again until something was announced which nobody anticipated.

Something coming from one of the most loyal PS supporter. Im fking pissed off about the betrayal right now. Still, the irony is that the best part of todays MS showing, is the appearance of a PS3 title on the 360. If thats any indication of the state of the 360 right now, than ROFL FKING LMAO BBQ HAHA!

damrightfresh5764d ago

I dont know what sony is doing but tomrrow at e3 they better announce final fantasy 7 exclusive to the ps3..I hope final fantasy versus stay exclusive..

Oh yeah 360 version of final fantasy 13 will be on 3 to 4 disks just watch..

ThatCanadianGuy5764d ago (Edited 5764d ago )

There's a rumor going around Kotaku of a FF7-Sequel.That'd be cool.

Snukadaman5764d ago

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies4h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

CrimsonWing6915h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker15h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6914h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt2h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos21h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto20h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8820h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies9h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
