Square Enix: maybe news on FFVII remake soon

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has told VideoGamer.com that there's a chance Square Enix will have some news on a Final Fantasy VII remake at a later time.

Speaking at gamescom last week, Kitase said: "As for a VII remake, all I can advise right now is to play the PSN release that just came out for the time being. Maybe, perhaps we'll have some news for you at a later time."

My gamer sense tells me it'll be around Q2/Q3 2010 when we hear some news about it. It's a 2 years old tickle and I'm pretty sure it's correct.
At least part of it came true. Once FFXIII is completed.

Yeah, that's true, they don't want to divert too much attention away from whatever is the next thing to come up. Still peddling that PSN download too as if anyone interested in it hasn't gotten it already. It did really well so they should take that into consideration and do it already.

This would NEVER be happening if it weren't for that damn PS3 tech demo that was shown oh so many years ago

It's business. The same reason they went quiet on Versus. They don't want to take the steam off the FFXIII hype and advertising.
It's sure that they'll remake FF7, there's sh!tload of money there. Just look at Advent Children, Crisis Core and Dissidia sales. They would make a profit even if it was JP only title.

A later time could be next week or in ten years.

I downloaded the PSN version and it brought back a lot of memories, it truly was a blast from the past and the story could easily be brought up to date with all of the global warming topics that are going around.

I would love it, but I just don't see it happening.

They better make sure the graphics is in line with the current games.

Playing PSone games on a PS3 connected on a 42" LCD TV sucks like hell. :(

6 - FF7 Remake? Then why release it on PSN?
I don't think they'll remake it, I thought that's why it was released on PSN.

If they do it better be up to par because I as well as millions of other gamers have very HIGH expectations for it.

Capcom did this with bionic commando. They released bionic commando: rearmed on PSN/XBLA and then went to release a 'remake' of sorts as a full fledged title. Granted it tanked but I mean not too many people really knew about BC.

Again with this story around a FF7 Remake. Can they just stop it. I want this remake so badly but I would rather here no news rather than rumors, maybes, or I will tell you next summer stuff. Till I see a screen shot of the production I am not holding my breath.

8.1 - My thoughts exactly.
This with out a doubt will be a day one purchase for me. For now I guess that I will have to keep getting my FFVII fix with Dissidia, Advent Children Complete and FFVII on my PSP and PS3.

If they officially announce that this game is in development, it will be like a calamity is falling from the sky.

well judging that the FFVII compilation will span over 20 years after the original release date of the first game, in 1997 that is, this would mean that the compil. will close in 2017. Don't get your hopes high, there can still be some room for other games.

However I think that 2017 is a bit far, and I wouldn't see more FFVII related games coming out that would be relevant. We've seen enough of the FFVII universe.
