After Square and Wada self-destructed and turned to complete garbage this gen, Level 5 and Atlus/NIS are now holding the torch for RPG fans.

Level 5 has been on fire over the past few years.

SE only published it, they had no hand in it's creation. I hope against hope that Level-5 resist the inevitable buy-out attempt from SE.

5.1 - graphics alone don't make a game.
It's a combo of graphics, story (main thing for RPGs), gameplay, and setting that make a game.

Lev 5 is known for RPGs and not shooters. In a shooter you need good graphics because they don't have much else to go on (Go here, shoot that, open door, and shoot him). But in a RPG you don't need great grphics. What you need is a story and a setting that fits the story.

This is why most of the best RPGs are 2 gens old now (ps1). This gen is to focused on graphics if you ask me. So many games have come out with great graphics but their storys are just not worth it.

Not sure why you think they're terrible. I have the Japanese version, and the graphics are quite nice. The character designs and made-up races in the game are nicely detailed and quite unique, the architecture of the buildings in the cities is very cool, and the environments are gorgeous. The graphics certainly don't qualify as "terrible."
