I'm having a hard time believing Motorstorm sold better than any other PS3 exclusive except from MGS4. This has to be including bundles.

If not, well, then it's a very weird case in which the first title had very long legs and the sequel didn't do nearly as good as the first.

Pacific Rift hasn't finished selling, the point of long legs is it sells over time, eventually PR could reach close to the original numbers.

I liked the first one MUCH more than the second. 1 major reason being that it was my first "next gen" game. It wasn't perfect, I was pissed about it not having local multi-player but in Pacific Rift I don't like the local multi-player because it's hard to see where you're going if you're unfamiliar with the tracks (friends and family couldn't play with me cause they got stuck or lost too often to compete).

Being bundled definitely helped it sale that many but it was still a great game.

My only REAL gripe would be the way they programmed the AI to always be competitive. You could be taking every shortcut and making 0 mistakes but the cars would ALWAYS pop in behind you to keep the race difficult. You mess up near the race end and you're screwed.

I think Motorstorm figures are pretty good. First of all, its a racing arcadey game, and those are pretty nice numbers in this genre (in any genre for that matter). Second, PS3 userbase is just 24 million and when MS was released it was much smaller. Third, MS got a lot of competition from another awesome games, Bornout:Paradise, and other PS3 exclusive Wipeout:HD (+Fury).

For a racing game, those are pretty good numbers right there.

And for those saying "oh well this game should've sold more seeing how long it's been out" give it a rest already.

For a new IP and being a racing game it should be known that it won't have incredible numbers. Most people who are into racing are few and far between when compared to FPS and RPG fans.

And don't go giving me "well GT5P had well over 4 mil sold" that's a totally different experience. Some love the chaos and dirt trails, others go more for the real sim approach.

So seriously, stop downplaying everything positive you see about the PS3. You complain about PS3 fanboys badgering 360 articles, yet I keep finding you 360 fanboys patrolling the PS3 articles. There's really no room for you to complain when you guys are doing the exact same thing, your no better than they are.

Gears of War was a massive success. Without a doubt. I just dont see why your indicating that just because another game didnt sell as well as Gears of War it means that it didnt sell very good. If you take into concideration that Gears of War is in the top selling Space marine vs aliens genre while motorstorm is not then motorstorm numbers are even more impressive.

Also Gran Turismo 3 sold over 13 million copies. Gears of War has sold like what. 5 maybe 6 million copies? I guess that means Gears of War sales suck by your logic.

My point (although I was not clear) is that a new IP of any genre is not going to outsell an established IP like Halo - especially Halo which is a juggernaut.

What about all the other 360 exclusives that never sold anywhere near Halo 3 - would they be considered failures then? Of course they would not.

Comparing anything to Halo is just not fair - whether it be 360/PS3/Wii. Halo is in a league all by itself. This does not make other games failures.

I 100% agree. This whole concept of "AAA games should move 1 million copies day one" is ludicrous, and a fairly new idea that some gamers got into their heads this gen. Huge one day sales or abnormally high attach rates may seem all well and good but they can also be indicators of a long term problem.

I know 360 fans love to throw around Gears and Halo figures, but close to 90% of games released on the 360 never even hit 1 million sales in their entire lifespan. Often times a game is mocked if it's "only" sold one million copies, but these people really have no concept of what a milestone that is to game sales.

Fact is, the 360 has all genres filled with more variaty and has the wider library of games overall.

(J)RPG's, the 360 has the most and most variaty. Racers, 360 has the most and most variaty. We could go on and on, but thats a fact. The only thing that the PS3 has in its greatest variaty possible is LittleBigPlanet.

Besides that, the PS3 has something like 380 games in total. The 360 has 300 games more then that. The 360 has 156 games of 8 and above average, the PS3 has 113 or so (Metacritic).

So nope. Its not because of the variaty. Its just because there are probably many PS3 units sold as a BluRay player first. Which isn't so strange, Sony has marketed the PS3 in its early days to BluRay adopters to be able to win the BluRay format war over HD-DVD. At that time it was the cheapest BluRay player on the market.

More variety? All my friends with 360s only talk about 4 games ever: Gears of War, Left for Dead, Halo 3, and COD4. That's all they ever talk about, all of them have the same games. I really don't see much variety in those games they play so I went with a PS3 instead.
