Why is Weezer in Guitar Hero: Van Halen? - And the possibilities of GH: Led Zeppelin

In a small Q&A with Tim Riley, head of music licensing at Activision, IGN managed to find out how some bands ended up in the Van Halen game and things about attempts of Activision to get GH: Led Zeppelin done.

Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, and DJ Hero. ALL in the rest of this year. Perfect example of the new Activision.

I used to be a big Guitar Hero fan but I'm sick of this crap. Screw Activision.

You know I think my last official Activision game will be Guitar Hero: Metallica. I keep putting it off, but I think pretty soon will be the best chance as I hope they will drop the price of it a bit after the release of all these other games.

This is just to insane, their are far to many Guitar Hero games coming out now. If it was at least every year or every other year it would be perfectly fine, but now it's just ridiculous.

I think you guys are complaining too much. Yes, Activision is greedy, but what EA is doing with Rock Band is almost the same. See:

Guitar Hero gets one game of the main series per year. After that, one or two spin-off games are released with new tracklists (with around 40 songs each) and the same game modes of the latest game main of the main series.

Rock Band is not an old franchise, so it's hard to know when RB3 is going to be released. But let's assume it'll be in stores next year. That makes for almost one game per year. Aside from that, we get band or genre-centric track packs with 20 songs (many of them already available for DLC) and very limited game modes. Later this year, The Beatles: Rock Band is going to be released with 45 songs in disc and, besides this and the Beatles-specific cutscenes, the game is almost the same as Rock Band 2.

Now, see how the Guitar Hero franchise is being managed in a better way than Rock Band is?

The Beatles are arguably the best band ever. IMO they deserve to have their own Rock Band game.

Also the age of a franchise doesn't matter, they're in competition. 3 Rock Band games have came/will come out this year (2 somewhat major revisions, Unplugged and Beatles with new setlist and new instruments, LEGO is just sucky), while there have been/will be *counts* 7 'Hero' games (Van Halen, GH5, Mobile GH5, On Tour Modern Hits, Metallica, DJ Hero, and Band Hero). WOW.
