Valve writer would love more Counter Strike
26
It seems that at least one member of Valve would love to see a new edition of Counter Strike. At a Left 4 Dead 2 press event earlier this week VideoGamer.com pressed Valve writer Chet Faliszek about a possible return for the excellent team-based shooter.
"Personally, I would like to see some more Counter Strike. Left 4 Dead made me stop playing that for a while, I was just concentrating on that. I used to play a lot of Day of Defeat! I still go back and play some."

Valve can hold off on a new Counter Strike until they make a new engine.
Maybe when (if) they make Half-Life 3 in like 2014 or 2015 they'll make a whole new engine, Source 2. Then they can refresh the CS experience.

I agree. New engine for new CS experience. No offense to Source engine, but its getting old. Valve needs new Source engine or something. It would be nice to see new engine with HL Episode 3 or something.

Episode 3 will have an upgraded engine, to the same degree Episode 2 looked better than Episode 1. Better lighting and shaders and textures.
A whole new engine probably won't come til after Episode 3 is done.

I would love to just se a patch for Counter Strike:Source...
1.6 get new updates, but source don't. There are some obvious things that could need to be fixed with source, but they just don't!

I would only like updates that will fix bugs, because there are to many of them. They are not allowed in most PCW's, but when playing in public the worst player can become great when using the bugs, and this is what I want to be fixed.
I hate playing public and being pwned by people I would own in a "serious" match. Sure this can be done even if the bugs wasn't there, since public isn't pcw. But you get my point I hope, get the bugs away. Were all tired of them!

When Half-Life 2 came out it was the top dog. It was 2004's Crysis in terms of requirements.

I don't see how CS would work on a console controle though. The game would be so slowed down, it would make the game bad, it's not suited for it if you ask me

Yea, you need pin-point accuracy for CS. Anyone that's used to games like Halo or Call of Duty would not do very well at all.

9 - CS gameplay is antique.
I used to play the original CS in the height of its popularity, and I played CS:Source for a while too. It was truly a step forward for the FPS genre when it came out.
But FPSs have moved even further now. The abilities in current games to take cover on a wall, go prone, set up an mg, sprint to cover, and more make the gameplay in CS feel old. It is the same way CS made quake-style shooters feel, when it introduced more tactical gameplay.

CS is one of the most tactical FPS I know, sure you have newer gameplay in the new games, but I won't call them better. Counter Strike really did make the best out of something, and adding a cover system would be horrible. It would make it like all the other games out there, and thats something Counter Strike isn't.
Don't destroy a perfect game, but fix it!

Ehh as good as that sounds... valve just completely F*cks up CS everytime they make one. 1.6 to Source was horrible when compared to how much better 1.6 gameplay is. If they do make another one then I only wanna see them do it on another engine so it's not as crap gameplay mechanics as source was.

13 - At 8.2 & 8.3...
CS on console vs some other guy on a console works just fine. Yeah it may not be as accurate as a pc/mouse but then hey, I have a controller. Its just different strokes for different folks. Doesn't mean we don't want a new CS and it'll be much more successful cross platform!
As for cover/lying prone etc, there's no reason CS couldn't be updated to include this along with the core game play we know and love. Its not all spawn, run, shoot, die rinse and repeat you know. ;o)

1 - Great news, at least someone over at Valve is thinking
Counterstrike is one of the most influential and addicting shooters I have ever played. They basically invented the tactical shooter. Games like Rainbow Six, CoD, Soldier of Fortune, Battlefield, etc. - they all owe a debt to good ole' CS.
Before CS, a lot of shooters just used generic guns that didn't really factor in range or recoil. Not to mention the whole plant the bomb mode was pretty much theirs too. The level design was also awesome in CS. I wish they would bring CS to XBL like they were rumored to.
I would like to see them develop a new graphical engine for the game though. And what a way to pimp out a new graphical engine, by releasing one of the most awesome shooters ever to grace gaming.

I REALLY don't see a new CS game doing that great on the consoles. I mean my 360 gamer friends who played FPS's with a controller for years could barely hit the broad side of a barn when I hooked up my 360 controller to my PC for them to use at a LAN.
You need near pin-point accuracy for CS and you just can't do that with a controller.
