Gaming For Wimps

For a PSP title to sell nearly 2.5 million copies worldwide is a pretty amazing achievement. But when 75% of those sales originate from Japan , a tiny country in comparison with the US and Europe , it does beg the question why? What is it that makes this game so special to the Japanese gamers and not to anyone else?

Perhaps they could call it : “Monster Hunter Freedom 2 : Specially Watered Down Version for Wimp Gamers In The West”

That just may be the down right stupidest thing I have ever heard

I wish I had enough free time to play this game, but as it is I am finding it hard enough just keeping up with all the great "short" games that are coming out.

Its kinda like Suidoken series not coming to the next gen consoles. Our expectations are so high they think that there is so much to this game that it would be easier and less time consuming to deliver on the less graphically intense platforms.

I think the reason the Japanese find it so appealing is a cultural difference. Alot of gaming on the go and people getting together with each other in small groups to play in parties as opposed to the West were we primarily play group games in different locations, but over the internet.

I believe you're absolutely right. The way people play games in Japan and the rest of the world is largely different. The gameplay is really nothing special, its just the intimacy of playing with their friends that is appealing.

I do agree with you but you seem to forget this game is also a great single player game.

Loving Monster Hunter, going to be on Ad-hoc party tonight (6 PM~ish Eastern Standard time) in J-50. Hopefully I can get to at least Hunter Rank 4 or 5 :). Can't wait for Monster Hunter United to come out, also it seems some people that I've encountered don't like it because "It makes you think" which I find kind of interesting and weird. Some really don't like it because it's non-linear :/, I find it to be fun.

9 - japanese gamers are wimps
so hes making the assumption that because we dont want to play japanese games, we are automatically wimps. Then does not playing kilzone 2 or halo 3 make japanese gamers wimps. The point is they have their games that are fun to them and we have our games that are fun to us.

i did not make that assumption at all ! I merely suggested that if westerners are not buying this amazing game maybe Capcom should water it down and make it easier because maybe the game is too difficult and challenging for us "westerners". Also, the word "wimp" was obviously not aimed at the 25% who have already played and enjoyed this game.

Please go and buy some new reading glasses?

Your post is ridiculous. Im curious what constitutes a casual shooter. Seeing has shooters are always referred to as appealing to the hardcore. I suppose by your ridiculous logic gears and killzone are casual shooters and hence are not real games...
