well.. the most emotionally effecting game I've ever played was Final Fantasy 6, for many others was FFVII with the Aeris stuff, but I saw Bioshock obscure, the good ending was comfortable.

Probably because it wouldn't mean as much. MGS4 has deep meaning to those who have played the whole series. Newcomers are like WTF is a Liquid? Are these people zombies? How come you can stab each other a million times and they don't die, why are people constantly injecting themselves with cyringes all the time? etc. etc etc. Not to take away from MGS4 as a story because it is epic but I think Bioshock has a great narrative all wrapped up in a nice tight package while it's taken MGS 20 years to get it all flushed out.

Also, it would require hours of cut-scenes to explain it all. Sorry, I love a good story but I am wanting to play the game not watch it.

@15.2: I've said it already many times when you did hit gameplay it was pure Gold and yes the cut-scenes are long(I love to rag on that) but they are brilliantly done and emotionally charged.

But i'm saying for me (and others) to have been more surprised would have been a comparison to MGS4's story. Hell even MGS3's story was fantastic and that was the first mgs game i played and i felt a connection to the characters. But BIOSHOCK is a nice comparison for a emotionally connected storyline.

*Laughs my ass off* Yes there was alot of cutscenes but they were awesome and told (in my opinion) one of the best stories ever. Also there's alot of gameplay to be had took me 27 hours to beat it my first time around.

Resistance has a better storyline than Halo and Gears, Resistance has better multiplayer than Halo 2, and its campaign is longer than both combined. I will concede that Gears looks a lot better and that people weren't used to playing that much action with 3rd person shooters because the ones before were more tactical and this game is basically insane. However, why can't you jump? That is retarded. Now that Gears of War 1 is old news, Gears 2 will not be as big as the first one given it's pretty similar.

Oh, and yes, Gears of War sold more than Resistance, Xbox 360 also had achievements back then and was about 7 million consoles ahead of PS3 which was barely starting then. Resistance was also a game rushed to launch unlike its sequel. Besides, Insomniac has an overall better record than Epic. Epic is a middleware tech company more than a game company, Unreal games were never meant to be great, they're simply made to sell the engine. Gears simply hit the jackpot because they managed to do something original, which was a third person shooter. Gears got better reviews and sales because of hype, achievements, install base, and innovation, not because of overall better quality or production values. The production values in resistance are insane.

They are also hard to compare. For example, I can't tell you if Gears or Resistance is better as far as campaign gameplay or multiplayer goes, since they are different; resistance has lots of things happening because it is an FPS, and Gears is more tactical (but more action oriented than most tactical third person shooters). That is why I said Resistance is "longer", which to me matters more than graphics. However, the next resistance will have much better tech than the first in pretty much every way, it has more install base to sell to, it is aiming to innovate a lot, it is getting half as hyped as gears 2 (which is a lot), and it will be compatible with the new PSN features including Home.

So be prepared for massive competition unlike the first time.

I don't know why the hell you consider Halo's storyline good, it's pretty childish (colors and english speaking aliens unlike resistance which has a gritty art direction and enemies that don't communicate with you) and cliched (futuristic game with aliens versus a game set little after WW2 era with an alien twist; not as cliched IMHO, kinda similar to Bioshock in the timeline).

Halo never gives you the sense of hopelessness that Resistance does. In Halo you can actually communicate with the enemy, why the hell do they even speak the same language? They're alien for god's sake. And I absolutely hate Halo's art style, it is too cartoony. It is just not for me. I think that the grittiest enemies I saw in Halo are "the flood" and they never made me feel any chills on my spine.

On the other hand, the crawlers, the hybrid, the Widowmakers, the angels... they don't even speak "human", they are truly what *alien* should mean, strange, not understandable, beyond human comprehension, unlike the covenant, which is kinda silly. I hate the guys that look like wookies. I mean seriously... why is it even M-rated? The novels might be good, but we're talking about games here, and Resistance didn't need a novel to make a case for its story.

I also don't know why you found resistance to be boring if you loved Halo so much. Resistance and halo are relatively similar except resistance has more explosive weapons and is scarier. So as I say below, I presume you simply judged the game by its relatively poor introductory level.

I recognize you sometimes have intelligent things to say unlike your comrades and I admit I sometimes let my inner Sony Zealot take over. I know what you are saying about resistance 1, I actually regreted buying resistance the first level I played which is probably what happened to you. However, after the first level things get very interesting, I absolutely loved the storyline. Ironically I barely finished it, and I thought it was very intense and that the production values are extremely high considering all the research they did. The guns are awesome and each actually has a purpose on the campaign, which is not what I felt when I played Halo 2's campaign, which to me is sad, since Bungie could have simply sold the multiplayer experience.

However, I was disappointed by the lack of significant bosses and perhaps innovation on the first resistance, but the next one sounds like it will address all the issues of the first and might just become the definitive shooter; Halo 3 beat the first Resistance (that beat the second halo) on multiplayer because of its community features, but COD4 got better than Halo 3, and that's not bad since that is how the industry works anyway. I just hope Resistance 2 will be as good as it sounds. I don't doubt Gears 2 will be huge, but when Epic says "bigger, better, badass, bioshock that, metal gear slow" I can't help myself except by shunning them since Gears 1 was great because of its original and improved gameplay, graphics and community features, not because it had a good storyline or because it revolutionized the industry.

The sad thing is that I do see a lot of comparisons and fanboy wars in the future between Resistance 2 and Gears 2 even though both will be very different games with different things to offer and both will be worth your money. Resistance 2 will be one of the best first person shooters and I don't doubt Gears 2 will be one of the best third person shooters. Is it possible that Gears 2 will outsell Resistance 2? If it Gears 2 sells 6 million and Res 2 sells "only" 4, who cares? If Gears 2 gets a 9.4 in metacritic and Resistance 2 gets a 9.1, who cares? In the end it's about personal preference, not about what you think someone else should do with their money because of what is selling better or getting better subjective yet not directly comparable scores.

Halo 1 had an awesome story. that's where it ended though, for me. after playing Halo 2 it was like i was replaying Halo 1 with a worse story. I didn't want to finish the fight after Halo 2. neither did a few of my other Halo fan friends.
