Next-gen visuals coming to the Wii in The Conduit

TalkingAboutGames writes: "After debuting their highly impressive, real-time gameplay trailer last month, High Voltage Software have officially announced their new FPS, The Conduit, the tirle that will usher in true next-generation technology on the Wii. Built on the studio's custom Quantum 3 Game Engine, The Conduit will be able to reproduce all kinds of neat little tech tricks on Nintendo's weak white box, including dynamic environment mapping, interactive water with real-time reflection, and four-stage texture composition including gloss, diffuse, and bump mapping. Yeah, that's a mouthful.
As well, High Voltage says that they've created an extremely advanced A.I. system, which is necessary if their "terrifying alien creatures" are to pose any threat to you whilst you flail your arms around, wildly, using the game's uniquely tailored control scheme. Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software, said:"

Ha. Well, I've given up on making sense of disagrees.

It's like when my sister was little and the parents would ask her if she did something. She'd say "yes" but really she meant, "Yes, I didn't". There are thousands of posts here that are impossible to disagree with without adding some mental correction like "My PS3 crashed" Disagree! (Cause mine didn't)...

I'm sure that's what such people are thinking, but it comes off as written Tourette's.

It won't matter because the best the Wii can do is 480p widescreen. To this day if you played Bioshock, Uncharted, or Gears on a SDTV it looks like a Xbox 1 game. So unless the Wii gets an update to get to 720p I don't care about this game. Give me more balance board games which are actually fun.

N64 had goldeneye 007, The Conduit=Wii's goldeneye the way I see it.

It looks better then I would expect a wii game to look and its an early build right... Its got potential.

Wii's large and rapidly expanding install base, coupled with the library being flooded with shovelware will ensure this game sells well as long as it sees good marketing.

You might as well show someone a third of a Picasso painting, and say "well you see a fraction of the painting, but you get the idea."

Uh, no. When demonstrating something, you don't inhibit the very element you are demonstrating and consider it an accurate portrayal.

Why is everyone anti-Wii? Sometimes it's so bigotted around this web site, it's sickening. Of course I must me missing some connection that Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Medal of Honor Heroes are all identical. People need to quite being discriminatory against everything but your favorite, society has evolved past that, so should you.

4.2 - The art design is weak
If the game had art direction on par with RE4 (the best looking Wii/GC game), it would look pretty much like 360's launch titles, because the engine is better than in any GC or Wii game and near that of the 360's launch titles. Some of the tectures and colors in Conduit are horrible, like in this pic: http://wii.ign.com/dor/obje...
Some of the art design is better though: http://wii.ign.com/dor/obje...

When you compare those two images from Conduit to gameplay pics of Resident Evil 4, you'll realise why art design matters the most:

I'm afraid the tech demo didn't wow, and the game looks even worse, even at SD levels.

without fanboy biase or however u spell it, the visuals are pretty good. take away ur precious hdmi cables and run ur ps3/360 at 480p and suddenly the graphics arent so next gen anymore. if the wii was compatible with hdmi this game would look pretty good. not uncharted or gears good but still better than alot of generic next-gen titles

That's exactly my point. If you are as blind as bat
then maybe i can see how you think the Conduit looks better than Haze.

Haze may be the most worst looking FPS to ever grace the PS3, but its still an order of magnitude better than the Conduit. 585p vs 480p...lol...

If you were deaf, you couldn't hear the crowd of people screaming at you and telling you to get your facts straight.

and if you were dumb... well then...nobody can't help you

So i guess i should change it to: blind, deaf, or dumb... and maybe add fanboi at the end of it. Pick your poison, because you're never going to win this argument.

8.1 - Not really...
The game looks pretty last gen to be honest. And no, Wii does not need this game. Anyone who really cares about FPS games will play them on PC, X360 or PS3 (in that order).

Who the hell are the guys making it anyway? This game will flop HARD. Maybe harder than Red Steel (relative to install base at the time of release).

I have a wii too, and i'm interested in the title. I think it would be great to have for the wii, but unfortunately i kind of agree with firestorm..

It might even be a really solid game, but will it really sell well? Couldn't see any wiifit soccer mom's running to pick this one up anytime soon..

of course too.. it's third party..

Red Steel actually sold pretty solidly (even though the game wasn't so hot) I liked red steel, it was pretty generic and you had to get past the crappy controls but it still had a few good moments.

8.4 - @ Firestorm
If you don't even know who the devs are, research them, they've been around for a long while and had a hand in some good stuff. This is apparently a very accurate dipiction of your assumptions, as you've basically just stated "I don't know anything about this game, but I love my stuff, so this one sucks, I don't even know who these guys are" Do you realize how naive this is?

With a large install base, people clammoring for a good shooter on the Wii, and some WELL-EARNED HYPE, I think The Conduit will sell well, but who I am I to argue with you Firestorm, you are apparently psychic. Tell me more about the PS4 and Resistance 3 while you're at it. Your pre-destined foresight must be amazing, no wonder you have 6 times the disagrees as agrees in your 2 posts here. You need to cut your narrowminded ways out of your thinking or you'll be so hasty with your animosity you'll never take a chance on anything in life.

I think that pic is from the trailer.
As for the site, it's kinda using the title for more hits. Even though some arguments are true and the game has some simulated advanced features, it's still well behind Metroid Prime 3 in look at least based on the trailer.

9.3 - The problem
The problem is that High Voltage thinks they need to give us graphical features that are on 360/PS3 I'd rather have graphical features that are tailored to wii i.e Super Mario Galaxy (which in my opinion has absolutely flawless graphics.) What the hell is the point of bump mapping on wii when there is no dynamic lighting (not sure on this though) and the texture must be at a lower res. Instead of bashing it or praising it as a halo killer which is impossible. This game brings out the worst in people. You've got the hypocritical Wii gamer who talks about the graphics of the game when earlier on he'd been defending wii games saying "gameplay over graphics" or other phrases, then you've got the asshole fanboys saying that the Wii is weak and can't run 360/PS3 graphics (which it can't) but the point of the matter is wait till the game comes out and rent it or buy it and if you don't like it don't play it. These comments could have been about the possibilities of The Conduit but now has turned into attacking/defending it because the assholes had to come and and say "WiI suckz lololool it supid and gay and kidz play it"

Awesome point mepsipax.
Super Mario Galaxy was a superb game and looked decent enough without any of these next-gen shaders and other advanced effects.

Plus what's the point of making a graphically near next-gen game on Wii? Wii isn't meant for that. It's the place mostly for either Nintendo fans or the casual gamers and neither care about graphics.
No body buys Wii for it's graphics.

9.5 - Hey MK_Red
I agree that this is all hype. However I'd like you to tell me who the hardcore was in th 70s, 80s, 90s, and then 00s. Then define casual for those time periods. After that I'd like you to explain how platformers went from being hardcore in the 80s to casual in the 00s. then tell me how duck hunt and nes powerpad are diffrent from wii sports and wii fit. After that tell me how these ruined gaming. Your logic is flawed.

9.6 - In defense of MK_Red
First off the guy above me raises very good points that Nintendo has always gone for the everybody(not casual) market, I don't think MK_Red was even insulting casual gamers. Second, I feel as games are now completely accepted into mainstream culture that all if not most games are casual/mainstream a hardcore gamer in my opinion is and will always remain the PC gamer, A PC gamer goes and spends thousands of dollars on a top line PC to play his games. A PC gamer has simulation games I.E silent hunter III or Flight Simulator which in my opinion are the most hardcore games(I once read a story in PC gamer where a man played Silent Hunter III for 3 days straight with real-time turned on without taking breaks, besides eating sleeping and bathroom) PC gamers have games like Fallout where if you wanted to you could beat the game in mere minutes (if you know where to go) but would rather go out and explore every possible corner and do every mission (like becoming a porn star)PC gamers have MMO's the nerdiest and most time consuming of all. So before anyone start b*tching about hardcore vs casual remember this ALL CONSOLES ARE CASUAL. Halo is a mindless run and gun pick up and play shooter. Super Mario Galaxy is a very fun pick up and play platformer. Games that MAKE you play for hours are hardcore, hardcore games are like work, so why don't we ask ourselves the question why do we want to be hardcore. Sorry for the rant I just hate this Casual/Hardcore debate.

You guys don't get it galaxy did not have normal mapping and to not want a graphical feature in your game is silly. It seems it's a fan boy posing as a Wii fan. It gives you a better polygon count also who said the Wii did not have dynamic lighting. The only thing hyped up or exaggerated is what it can not do.

The game started as a look what the Wii can do now it's more of a Sweet we get a real online shooter now that's not a sequel. I'll be playing this one like most people. I'm still amazed they could pull that off on the Wii. The Wii has the same problem as the RSX of the PS3 it has fixed function render passes that are not as easy to work with as shaders. Good to see people pushing the Wii though.

I'm not worried about the game bring out the worst because I'm been around the best and they don't talk as much junk because they will just kill you in a FPS game LOL. Lots of pro gamers and clans are looking forward to this game also. After using and mastering sight aiming on a mouse it's going to be cool to do it with the Wii mote even if it means more use of splash damage. Don't be so stereotypical also. Yes Wii gamers want game play yet graphics and effect are nice that's like people give away free money. It would be stupid to complain. Even in the days that PC gaming crush console games graphics....graphics where still a big deal. To a point those gamers are still correct because I haven't seen a lot of HD games that have had great game play with out using online. Hopefully MGS4 start a trend.

11.2 - Nobody
said it did, nobody said anything of the sort. This immaturity reminds me of when we were little and saw the small kid on the playground try and play a game with the big kids. How he'd fall behind and clearly not make the cut, but still try his best. Remember how the bullies just laughed, and the mature/brilliant kids felt for the small kid and respected his zeal and effort? Perhaps none of you can even translate this analogy.

What I'm saying is the Wii may not have been designed for such visual prowess, but it's damn nice to see it pull off what it is. You people giggle if it faulters from shovelware and mediocre minigames and 3 AAA titles a year, and at the sequelitis afflicting the industry, then just have the same reaction when something goes against that. Guess what, I think you naysayers are simply enjoying giggling at others because you never evolved from that kid on the playground. People quit the hatred.

yeah, if they think those are next gen visuals they obviously haven't played a next gen shooter. put resistance or gears 1 or COD4 (i am specifically quoting previously released games) up next to it and it looks pretty bad. lets not even compare what we are getting in same time frame as this game (gears 2, resistance 2, killzone 2). it actually looks alot like halo 2 graphics wise.

The game looks better than I expected, but it's not next gen graphics. It looks close to late Xbox graphics - pre launch 360 graphics, but not quite 360 and PS3 lauch titles yet, since I don't know how far along this game is I'll save my judgements until it comes closer to it's release date.
