That's what made Dungeon Siege great, it's party management.

1.1 - Calling Dungeon Siege great is going too far
Dungeon Siege was decent fun but it was pretty mindless. I couldn't imagine playing Dungeon Siege 2 or 3 - once was enough for me.
But I agree that if you take away the party management I don't see what is left.

Best announcement for this year yet. Dungeon Siege has always been my favorite RPG series. Only the party building was a good aspect of the game. This "single hero" idea comes too close to Dungeon Lords, which without objection sucked. As much as I have faith in Mr. Taylor, I sincerely hope this doesn't **** up the series.
Well neither of the DS games required squad attention. You assigned a type of attack, and they would perform it on either the closest or strongest mob. They did what they had to do might it be in a sometimes too stupid way. I mean, being a mage you don't continue bashing the same mob which got angry at you, you start attacking one which is as good as dead or something.
But leaving the limited AI aside, you could do with them what you'd like. Either use them as a mere packmule with some attacks and become the champ yourself or equally level them to match your own strength. ...or not using any at all, might it be insanely difficult. The choice was yours.
Only the further simplification scares me that this might become a console (shared) game, equal to rock bottom. Piracy aside, some games should stay on the PC. But I say that for a lot of games...
Removing free choice for forced single-character building does take away some of the originals charm. It could work out, I'm open for everything as long as it remains as simple as it was. Just the way I like it.
