Rainbow Studios Inc. is jumping into the fray of programming games for the market-leading video game console, the Nintendo Wii.
Rainbow and its parent, THQ Inc., are hopping aboard the Nintendo train, which has produced the top-selling game console in the nearly $18 billion industry, according to market analyst The NPD Group Inc.
Nintendo, once the king of consoles, fell behind its rivals but now is coming out on top again in its battle with Microsoft Inc.'s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3.
Rainbow has focused its talents primarily on high-end systems such as Xbox and PS3, and its designers sometimes are not very excited about taking that step back, said Mark Buchignani, senior producer at Rainbow.
Nintendo has captured a large niche for itself. The company sold nearly 6.3 million Wii consoles in 2007 -- almost as many as the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined, according to NPD Group.
