Terminator Salvation, another movie game to grace or consoles. I don't normally play movie games but I have to be honest, the trophy's did entice me to play it but I did have a surprisingly good time with it with my low expectations.
The story is set before the movie which you play as John Connor (In an Arnie voice). The story is rather disappointing as the whole plot is very minor, but the dialogue is suffice and keep you fighting for something. The voice acting is pretty bad as suspected, not having Bale is a negative as well but the menus and loading screen looks slick even though the game contains no features whatsoever. Also after each continue the game loads which is frustrating.
The graphics are as first though, pretty bad nearing close to average. The environments look poor quality, the character models are rushed and some textures look very low res. Although I wasn't walking slowly enjoying the environment and such, it didn't spoil the experience but neither did it add anything to it.
The game play may be its best part, its a standard third person shooter with some terminator style to it. A few issues here, I couldn't find a sprint button, the AI at times were pretty dumb and boring as killing a certain robot involved going behind them and there are a very small selection of different enemy robots which was rather boring to that aspect. As for the weapons there are a poor range of weapons and one large issue, the shotgun is not really not a shotgun and has an incredible range and small blast radius. Otherwise the game has a intelligent cover system which I thought was pretty cool how you change cover from one obstacle to another.
Overall the game is worth a rent and only a rent, being a 4 hour game on hard with no added features or online play, it makes this game have almost no re playability, it is a standard movie game with the usual problems but I did feel a sense of accomplishment and felt good after I beat the game which was rare.
There's a long history of video games based on action movies, some have been very good and some have been not so good. The vast majority of them can be darn right mediocre. The game can be summed up into one word, "meh"
MEGamers writes: "Love it or hate it, Terminator is a big name in the entertainment industry. Sure it is old news by now, but after the new movie hit every theatre on the planet earlier this year, a game tagged along was guaranteed. The least we have come to expect from a licensed movie game is the appearance of the star (Christian Bale) in some action packed scenes from the movies supported by some fantastic cut scenes. To set the record straight, The Terminator Salvation game has nearly nothing to do with the movie whatsoever."
NextGN writes: "Terminator: Salvation is a game that was made for a quick buck. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend renting the game unless you are a shameless trophy whore like me (the game has a total of 12 trophies: 11 gold and 1 platinum). If this were a PSN game, and its price tag were $20, I would've been much more forgiving with the review, but this is a $60 game, and paying that high a price for a bad 5-hour (or less) long game is just criminal. Stay away from this train wreck."
Quickest platinum i ever got.Good review tho !
I would give it around the same score.During the first mission i expected to be bored and tired throughout my quest for trophies, but, i must say..
Towards the end of the game i really started to get into it.I enjoyed it quite a bit overall.
Good Review Man...I must admit that I will end up renting this just for the Platinum. With all Gold Trophies and a Platinum I am ready to suffer through it. You and Canadian have given me a small glimer of hope that it would be as bad as I thought, lol.
Haha thanks for the support.
Never froze on me but Yeah. Did you finish it?
I hated the fact that you had almost no freedom to move around the game. You were basically pushed in the direction you needed to go.
This game had the potential to be an awesome game but fell very short!(In my opinion)
