Socom Confrontation has come a long way since its release. It started with many issues such as unpredictable servers, game kicks, and system reboots. Slant Six has resolved the vast majority of these problems, and added a plethora of new features with over a hundred game fixes in this update.
The most notable features of the patch are actually working game invites from the lobby, dive-to-prone action, stackable items, stat tracking, and trophies. While the features are greatly appreciated, I wonder how many potential Socom player and fans Slant Six warded off in the time that it took them to add these features that should have already been packaged with the game. I'm not trying to kick dirt in the face of Socom or Slant Six, but the copy of Socom that I purchased on Oct. 17, 2008 has most of the newly released features printed on the back of the box.
Newcomers to Confrontation will enjoy the much anticipated features of the newest patch. However, for those of us who braved through harshest times before this heavenly patch were forced to endure a full stat reset. All of the hard work that my clan and I did was erased. This caused two members of my clan dropped deciding that they might comeback for the next iteration of Socom.
I can say I'm disappointed with Slant Six's inability to keep promises and slow response to repairing game issues. Nevertheless, I would still recommend this game to anyone looking for a strong 3rd person shooter. I would also lobby that there is no better time to play Socom . It is probably the most tactical and strategic shooter that I've had the pleasure of playing. It has communication features rivaling any shooter on the market. Slant Six ironed out all the major issues plaguing this game. However, I can't help but think that with titles like Killzone 2 and other around the corner, was this patch too little, too late?
Last year I wrote an article titled, The State of SOCOM. I discussed my
love and history for the beloved third person shooter that helped pioneer
online multiplayer on consoles. It has been six years since we last had a
new SOCOM game.
Baffles me as to why they have not done anything with this franchise. Seeing as how it was #1 on the official PlayStation poll.
With all the trash put up weekly on the App Store why has nobody done a clone of this yet. I've been playing Defiance as my go to 3rd person since 2013 but still nothing like that old school Socom/Socom 2 up all night gameplay.
the only game on that list that's like socom is wild land if you want socom type games then you will have to invest in a PC
RAINBOW SIX: is the closest you'll get to Socom.
Also, in response to @lookatthisi
They let go the creators, and I think socom is a game that's hard to clone even the creators had a hard time making Socom 2, Socom 3.

"Would you purchase a game you can’t play for a single penny? Video game retailer GameStop seems to think that it is worth trying to sell to this market."
Depends the situation. Usually if they have a trade in X and get Y bonus for preowned purchases, a store will let you have the excess credit if you make 1 purchase and 1 cent is cheap enough where I wouldn't have to bother returning it or eating the cost out of laziness.
Stan replied passionately, sadness creasing his face, “they’re shutting us down. Offline, man, off-fucking-line. I dedicated my life to this, and it’s just ending. This is the last battle.” - PSLS
MAG will be missed, my all-time favorite shooter. They're shutting servers down in January.
Rather play MGO, at least for now... The headset was nice though.
good review.
Dont worry about the socom community though. They aren't going anywhere & slant 6 knows that.
It could have been worse. Actually this was as bad as it gets. Even a Socomer like me gets fed up & sometimes I want to break the dam game & swear it off but... I can't. Its socrack!
Your review of gameplay & fun factor is the reason we all keep coming back for more. Its a raw great game underneath the maggots of technicalities. I play MGO as well & switch back & forth between the two.
MGO is the reason I dont play with the m4 & the ak47 in socom. I'm just too good with those guns & mgo is training these weapons for presicion shooting in a stealth setting. Socom is war. In & out unmatched realism, skill &
team work. The sound in socom has defeated the sounds of bad company in my view. That was my highest audio bar & socom beat it.
Btw, socoms dark map lighting & night vision has to change immediatly. Just another reason of how this game can go from bad to okay to good to great to incredible to OMFG did you play socom?!?
Even after killzone we are still gonna be playing socom.
Count on it.
Overall just a crap game.
@ Firstknight
Its would be nice if you actually had played the game before commenting.
I ended up trading in my copy of Socom in November. There's no excuse to release a game in that kind of state. I have had alot more fun playing CoD:WaW.
They should have never used the socom name. They should have just released it as a new ip, but it would have never sold. I am very pissed the way /6 made this game. Most of the features that were in the ps2 games are missing from the ps3 game. No text chat in lobbies? Can't shoot through a fence? i still have my copy but I will never play this game again.
