Resistance Fall of Man came out way back in 2006. For those of you who own a PS3 and have not picked it up, I'd suggest you do so. The game's prices generally vary from around $15-$20 in the USA, and is probably even cheaper on sites such as Amazon or Ebay.
Even for it's time (2006) the graphics were nothing to special, but it's not a gamebreaking experience. The only real issue I had with the graphics was that the textures for some of the Chimera were downright terrible.
The game revolves around Nathan Hale, a U.S. soldier who is aiding the British from a Chimeran invasion. The story will have you moving from hotspot to hotspot throughout much of england, meeting new characters and amassing an impressive array of weapons. The weapons in the game range from Real-world guns, to futuristic alien weapons that shoot lasers through walls.
Resistance FOM is probably one of the funnest single-player FPS campaigns I have played. The story is woven together by a female narrator (forgot her name) and the game's style just adds to the atmosphere. You'll find yourself fighting hordes of enemies many times. The controls are very responsive as well, and you have the option to change the controls to whatever suits you.
One of the main problems in this game is there is a lack of people playing on the multiplayer. During peak hours, there will be a few full games, but this is usually not the case. You'll also find that it can be extremely difficult to find a ranked match since there is barely anyone on at times. The majority of the online games are almost always the same. The host has set weapon damage to 200%, and has allowed 1-hit kills. There is rarely ever a game hosted that plays by traditional rules. The lack of players is due to the age of the game. Most of the multiplayer players have moved on to different games.
Overall, the game id definitely worth the price you pay. The single-player experience is extremely fun, and there is even a cooperative mode so that you can play it with friends. If you are planning on getting Resistance 2, or Resistance 3 (whenever it comes out) make sure you get this game as well. It's fairly cheap and it will really give you some insight on what is going on in the later Resistance games.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
Days Gone director & former Bend Studio dev Jeff Ross says he pitched an open-world Resistance game to Sony; he wasn't interested in a Syphon Filter reboot.
Sony rejected an open world Resistance? Come ON guys. Stop with these timed deals for Deathloop etc and let’s go!
This plus the fact Days Gone hit 9 million has me scratching my head this week. Why so cynical?
As far as Syphon Filter goes, it's a shame that after two generations of leaks and rumors the game was never actually in development. MGS is dead, Splinter Cell might as well be dead from what we've heard. Sony's had a massive opportunity to come in and take over a dormant genre, and they're just dragging their feet. So many opportunities to bring franchises back and they just don't.
I really wish we got more grounded action-crime or action-espionage games, not everything has to be over the top action RPGs and have sci-fi/superhero/fantasy elements.
Especially after seeing that jawdropping Matrix showcase... we can really rival some great action films if done right :O
Shame about Siphon Filter as I believe there is a market for it.
Also, there are some rumors that Sony is working on a new game that mix both Splinter Cell and MGS features.
Let's hope it is true.
