Resistance: Fall Of Man is a first person shooter from Insomniac Games. It chronicles an era that occurs in an alternate timeline where Earth is ravaged by a savage, devastating creature, The Chimera.
The game looks like a WW2 shooter with fantastical Sci-Fi touches. It's most unique features are it's great gameplay and the clever selection of weapons.
The game is has a Campaign single player and co-op. Multiplayer is both split-screen and online.
Single Player Campaign gets you involved in the story of the Chimeran invasion of Europe after suddenly emerging from Russia. You take the role of Nathan Hale, an American Soldier fighting on the frontlines in England.
The weapons of Resistance are simply marvellous. The Auger is a weapon that fires straight-through any wall or item on the map. The Bullseye allows you to tag an enemy and then pelt them with fire that seeks out the target. The Hedgehog Grenades are shrapnel-spheres which are most fun with friends. As are the Air Fuel ones.
The flame-thrower and Rocket launcher each have a nifty feature. The 'Dragon' spews fire and can build up a fire barrage. The Rocket launcher can pause the fired rocket in mid air and re-direct it elsewhere.
The standard rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle and grenade are pretty unremarkable but the Arc Charger is a bizarre weapon that is not very effective or clever.
There are many more weapons in Single Player Campaign but as you can't use them in deathmatches, they're not worth mentioning. The Co-Op feature of the Campaign is fun with a friend but lacks any significant impact on gameplay or the story.
The real fun and lastability of the game is in the multiplayer. Resistance: Fall Of Man excells at both split-screen and online.
Split-screen is phenomenal. Some of my fondest gaming moments are with the guys round playing 4-player deathmatches, team deathmatches and capture the flags. Because Resistance's gameplay is lightening fast and the weapons are so different, it makes the game both easy to pick-up and incredibly addictive.
Online is fantastic too. Although you can't play split-screen, Resistance: Fall Of Man has a great online set-up. You have a rank based on experience, medals and performance. Your ranking changes the number of customisation options for your online soldier.
The Maps are varied, with a great range and scale. They are based on major English Cities. You have up to 40 players on a single location. This is what we call an All-Out War, ladies and gentlemen. Despite the large number of players however, I have to say I have never experienced any lag whatsoever.
The beauty of resistance is a balance few First Person Shooters actually achieve. A balance between character types and weapons.
You may play human, who have radar and the ability to run/crouch. Or Chimera, who can 'sense' players behind walls but prolongued use will damage health. Humans work better together. Chimera, alone. Humans get rifles. Chimera, Bullseyes.
The Weapons also balance out as you use the shield function on the Auger to protect you from a rocket. The Bullseye can be used to fire round a corner at a player. But it lacks the rifle's accuracy and grenade launcher. These balances help keep Resistance enjoyable either with friends online or in the same room as you.
Overall, Resistance: Fall Of Man was an incredibly impressive PS3 launch title that delivers an unforgettable experience. It is stunning in every detail and will be cherished for years for all it's smart little traits and designs. If you don't own it, buy it. If you own it, relive it. Then come play me online.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
Days Gone director & former Bend Studio dev Jeff Ross says he pitched an open-world Resistance game to Sony; he wasn't interested in a Syphon Filter reboot.
Sony rejected an open world Resistance? Come ON guys. Stop with these timed deals for Deathloop etc and let’s go!
This plus the fact Days Gone hit 9 million has me scratching my head this week. Why so cynical?
As far as Syphon Filter goes, it's a shame that after two generations of leaks and rumors the game was never actually in development. MGS is dead, Splinter Cell might as well be dead from what we've heard. Sony's had a massive opportunity to come in and take over a dormant genre, and they're just dragging their feet. So many opportunities to bring franchises back and they just don't.
I really wish we got more grounded action-crime or action-espionage games, not everything has to be over the top action RPGs and have sci-fi/superhero/fantasy elements.
Especially after seeing that jawdropping Matrix showcase... we can really rival some great action films if done right :O
Shame about Siphon Filter as I believe there is a market for it.
Also, there are some rumors that Sony is working on a new game that mix both Splinter Cell and MGS features.
Let's hope it is true.
Your overall rating doesn't add up to 9.5. Your overall rating should equal to 8.7.

NOT AN AVERAGE.
Learn how to read FirstknighT ;)
Anyways, good review. I would have given the graphics an 8/8.5 at the most and the sound at least a 7. Final score would be an 8.5/9 at the most, specially if you take into account that there are FPS out right now that surpass Reisstance in most areas (like UT3 and CoD4).
Resistance 2 will be different. That will be the console shooter other devs will look up to when making an FPS.
i wouldn't give the sound such a low score- the guns sound excellent
but good review overall, maybe a little too generous- but user reviews are there for a reason eh
i would have gone with around 9.1-2 something like that
Good review makes me what to play RFOM.
very good review but resistance 2 will be a lot better, 60 player online death matches, 8 player co-op story ,killer graphics can a 360 game match that
NO!
