Garbage Beyond Belief

Prison Break is one of my favorite television shows of all time. When I heard of this game they made, I had little hopes for it, but had to play it. I knew however it would be a very bland game since it’s based off of the first season which takes place in a prison. I decided there wouldn’t be a lot of color and such. As I picked it up, I was right the whole time. They ruined this TV series with a spin off title just to make money, but that didn’t happen since the company went out of business and another company had to pick it up, and release this awful garbage. Get ready for a story told in Fox River State Penitentiary, sort of.

The story was the only thing I enjoyed about the game. It wasn’t bad because it followed the first season of the show, but with some random character that was never there. His name was Tom Paxton who was an agent for ‘The Company’. It was a decent attempt to do it, but still deserved nothing high of a rating for its lack of originality. Paxton has to go undercover in the mission to stop Michael Scofield and make sure his brother Lincoln is put to death in the electric chair.

Paxton has a voice recorder he always speaks into and no one else notices. So if he dies people will know who he is but his boss Mannix had some beef against him so it turns out later to be a problem. Mannix comes to jail to make sure he kills Paxton and get the job done as well as killing Lincoln. I recommend to just go watch the TV series because it is way more enjoyable. Your main objectives are collecting things for the people from the cast of the show, such as; drugs, PUGNAc medication and it is very boring collecting these things. You could get tattoos and make money from underground fighting. Paxton becomes a good guy in the end, and Mannix gets what is coming for him and Paxton delivers. With its nine chapters, it isn’t a very long game, the main story takes 7-8 hours and then you can have all the fun with the underground fighting! Once you finish the story there is not much to do after that.

The game play is taking place in third person, so you are always starring at the back of Paxton which is not enjoyable at all. For the game play it is very basic. You climb a lot and have to avoid being caught. The guards are really stupid so you can just run by them without them noticing. Enjoy hiding, collecting, and underground fighting because that is what you are going to be doing for nine chapters. The fights are very disappointing (well the whole game is) because it’s the same moves over and over again, no weapons just fists. Get involved in some weight training for Paxton to become stronger, but no one wants to do that since the fights are very easy with reversals and finishers. Just swing tell the guy is down.

The controls are clunky but easy to get use to after an hour of playing. So during the game you sneak, climb, and fight. That is the game play, and it doesn’t change up. If you get caught by the guard you get an instant fail and return to a checkpoint. There are a few pain in the ass places, that you will have to try a few times. The prison doesn’t feel alive at all. It feels like a sloppy mess sprinkled with sugar. Not the worst game play or controls but could use some improvement.

The sound was very uninspiring, with the main theme playing over and over again. The voice acting has most of the original cast which is nice but their characters look like crap. The voice acting is good; the environment is lame and has nothing appealing. It feels very empty, when you are in the prison or outside in the field. There is not much sound you hear besides the main theme and the voices. When you are outside like that, you should feel like you are in prison with a lot of sounds going on but you don’t hear anything.

The graphics were pretty bad since there is a lot of gray and white. Not a lot of color at all in this game. The characters were bland and even the brothers didn’t look that good. The only person I believe that looked mediocre was Paxton and that isn’t saying much. You look at a lot of walls since you are climbing and all the guards look similar but have little tweaks, here and there.

This game could use a good polish and updated graphics. It feels very weak and should have made it look more like the TV series. They got a lot right but didn’t do it well. They didn’t have the true Prison Break experience instead they took a great plot and ruined it. It feels like you are playing just once big level instead of nine. It all feels the same so you get bored very quickly.

After playing this game I decided to go watch the series to cheer me up because they sure knew how to ruin it. All give credit for the story since it wasn’t really changed, but no credit for the lack of the sound and graphics. Not the worst gameplay either, but certainly not very good. Prison Break: The Conspiracy should be held by ‘The Company’ and make everyone forget about it. This was a downfall and I wish to never to play a video game based on a TV series ever again. When you finish this you will wish ‘The Company’ will come find you and put you to rest or better yet throw you in jail because real life prison would be more exciting then playing this.

Games you don't want to wake up to on Christmas morning

GamerZines writes:

Christmas is a time for giving. So when you wake up on Christmas morning, you fully expect to be given a handful of the latest and greatest games you've asked for. But what happens when it all goes wrong? Mum's picked up last year's Call of Duty thinking it was Black Ops, Nan's bought you the Medal of Honor book rather than the game, and well, Dad's too busy getting merry in the armchair to really care.

If you wake up to these this Christmas, you're in for a big surprise.

I don't think I'd want to wake up to a CoD game at all...

AndrewRyan4885d ago

Me neither, but 7million other people would.

Um I'm not gonna wake up to any games on Xmas morning, I'm gonna be gaming all night (LAN PARTY) so I most likely wont wake up till noon, then I'm a want some food.

If I don't see Half Life 2 ep3 downloading in my steam folder then in reality it wont be Xmas.

enjoy your Kinects, Moves, COD, socks, ugly sweaters and gift cards tomorrow.

Call of Duty or Crackdown 2. Crackdown 2 is one of the worst games I've played this generation.

Top Ten Turkeys of 2010 - VideoGamer

Another year, another list of games, another batch of turkeys. 2010 might have been a great year for games, but it's had its fair share of rubbish too. Let's take a look at the games we wish we'd avoided.
