Story: As far as story goes it is realistic. It is non of this gun hoe Call of duty style warfare. The story isn't gripping but the realism makes up for this and you feel very much part of a real war. The missions are also realistic and defiantly a fresh angle on the Military FPS. The voice acting is much to be desired. The macho voices seem to be taken straight out of a B rated military movie. The Rules (like use your fire team and what where the bullet drops) introduced are great and makes you think like a soldier and less like a COD gamer.
Gameplay: This is where things get interesting. The gamplay is very similar to Dragon rising but tweaked to make things better. The command menu has been improved and easier to navigate. The enemy AI is good. Sometimes they do run at you but as soon as you fire upon them they hit the deck and try another route. The friendly AI is not as good. I will give you an example of what I mean. I told my men to watch an area from a roof top. They came under heavy fire and they went on one knee and stayed there. The AI didn't think to get into more protective cover. It can be annoying but it doesn't ruin the game. If any of you have played Dragon Rising not being able to choice you weapons was irritating. The option is there to change your weapon which is a welcome part of the game. One unwelcome addition to this game is the restricted movements of you and your team mates. In dragon rising you could go anywhere on the Island but you are now resticted to a large area. This is a pain considering Operation Flashpoint is known for being free. It takes a way a little bit of the realism. It is a shame they introduced this but still fun non the less.
Graphics: The graphics are much of an improvement from the last game. The terrain is detailed and the heat effects are a welcome addition. The characters look real and move like trained soldiers.
Sound: The bullets zip past you, the thuds of the rounds hitting the targets are realistic. It brings you into the battle and makes you think you are actually there. Definatly the best sounds I have experienced in gaming.
Online: I cannot comment on the online play because I rarely play co-op missions with other people
Conclusion: This is defiantly a game everyone should play. It is one of the best tactical FPS on the consoles. It is a shame that you are confined to an area but it works well this way too. The situation is real and not any of this COD style game with silly set pieces. This genre and this game is always over looked. If you want a game that punish you for making a wrong tactical move and a game that challenges you mentally this is a game for you.
Mobile & Apps: "One of the most underrated shooters of the previous generation was Operating Flashpoint: Red River for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. With all its problems, I believe this is a game that is worth playing, however, it is not too hard to see why the game didn't quite kick off, as it should have."
Loved this game, it was dumbed down from Dragon Rising but still an enjoyable game. Was still offputting to people looking for instant/non stop action
Ha! Some colleagues and I are actually planning on hitting this one up tonight. Great game.
PSBeyond compares some prominent FPS franchises to their closest movie equivalents
News arrives from GamesIndustry.biz that Codemasters is closing down its Guildford studio, which has previously worked on the recent Operation Flashpoint games, and the poorly received console shooter, Bodycount.
About time! They have tarnished the good name of Operation flashpoint long enough. For Dragon Rising, they lied about many things that would be in the game, and released the game without CD keys thus Pirates could play with paying customers lol Game didn't even have Jets...
Now rain the good name of ArmA series.
^^^ I don't know why gamers wish for studio closures and job losses when they can wish for existing developers to make better games.
What do you mean you are restricted to a certain area? Do you mean there are invisible walls, or you die if you move too far away from the objective?
