The first motorstorm, a Playstation 3 launch title was enjoyed by the millions of people that purchased the game. The game sold very well for a launch title, however recieved mixed reviews - but managed to average at a respectable 82/100 on metacritic.
The sequel to this game came upon us late 2008, unfortunatly it got lost for many gamers within the holiday rush of games. I have recently got around to playing this game properly after buying it shortly after release.
There was a demo released before the games actual release which turned out to be a very old build. The visuals were very outdated and some of the driving tweaks had not been made - so if you did make your decision not to buy this game based on that demo, then please try out the new updated demo on the playstation store called "Motorstorm: pacific rift demo 2.0" it is a much better representation of the actual game.
Gameplay:
The most important part of a game, the gameplay. Motorstorm: pacific rift does feel alot like the first game, however there are many tweaks that fans of the older game will notice. These tweaks all make the game a much more enjoyable experience. The vechiles are very fun to drive, some harder to master than others - but come with greater rewards if you do take the time to master them.
Presentation:
At first glance, the visuals in motorstorm pacific rift do not look anything special, while you're sat at the start line you will notice all the ugly, very low resolution textures all around you. However, once the race starts, all the special effects kick in - the amazing dust and dirt that is flicked up by the vechiles wheels look realistic, the water effects are some of the best in the industy.
The enviroment reacts to you, run over some foliage and it will flatten or get pushed out of the way, the tree's will bend if you smash into them. There are muddy sections in some tracks which will have your vechile and every other leave real mud tracks that stay there through the race.
The game maintains a quick, solid fps count - it uses the same technology WipEout HD uses, i'm not sure if it is locked at 60FPS but from playing it, i'd say it is locked close to that since i never see any framerate drops.
All this adds up to an amazing looking game while in motion, this game's presentation is something that really needs to be noticed properly.
Sound:
The soundtrack in this game, i feel was rushed. There does not seem to have been much effort made to make sure the soundtrack fitted the game and actually added to the experience, thankfully though - this game supports custom soundtracks.
The sound effects too seem a bit lacking in the sense that there isn't much variety, the same boost effects on every vechile can get tiring. The actual sounds are of a high quality however, they all fit the games theme very well.
Online play:
The online play, what can i say? The put it simply, this is the most fun i have had on a racing game online, great community, works amazing - not had a single laggy match and the matchmaking system works perfectly. The ranking system too, while i'm not far into it seems pretty interesting.
Conclusion:
This is one of the best off-road motorsport games ever made. It is very underrated in my opinion, it is one of the best PS3 games, so if you do own a PS3 and like this type of game - then i highly recommend it!
The campaign is great and will help you when going against real people online, so that is well worth a play through.
Digital Foundry : Evolution Studios' Motorstorm is one of the first, finest and most fondly remembered of launch titles for PlayStation 3. It's a release designed to answer the question posed by each new console generation: what makes a game 'next-gen'? With its robust physics engine and massive tracks, Motorstorm serves up a bold affirmative answer to this question, delivering an experience that could never have existed on prior console hardware. At the same time, the path to release was fraught with challenges that almost serve as a microcosm of the PlayStation 3 release situation itself. It was a success, however, with a trilogy of PS3 releases, plus PSP, Vita and even PS2 off-shoots.
After Driveclub and Onrush, the dev team will now contribute to and assist with the development of the upcoming NFS.
Never really got into it myself I remember getting it with ps3 and being a bit underwhelmed I preferred the RC version they did for vita 🙌🏻🤣
DSOGaming writes: "RPCS3 is the best emulator for Sony’s previous-gen console, the Playstation 3, and we’ve decided to share some videos, showing Dante’s Inferno, God of War 3, Sly 3, P5 Persona, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting, Super Hero Generations and more running on its latest version."
DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s ‘reznoire’ and ‘Emulators for PC’ have shared some new videos from the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3, showing Heavy Rain, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and Spiderman 3 running in it."
Poor Heavy Rain lol that game was and is a pile. Emulation sounds cool though - Res. Evil 3 and Directors Cut all the way.
So games run at 10 fps and graphical glitches not seen since pcsx2 in 2003,.. I will get there someday.
Guess what game im going home to play today???
hint: it uses turbo boost to pull wicked power mud slides.
Hey, get your mind out of the gutter .
