In Ghostbusters you play as a rookie Ghostbuster. You are their guinea pig, experimental weapon tester, and human meat shield. The veteran Ghostbusters squad put you in the most dangerous situations while they get to ride in ecto 1. They have no sympathy if you die because you are expendable. However, they do come back to heal you Gears of War style if they are not too far way… lazy bastards. The voices of most of all the original characters in the movies are here and are an excellent feature. I love it when movie based games actually work together with developers letting them ad lib their parts to get the truest sense of their character. Ghostbusters is definitely up there with the ultimate fan service to us nerds.
Ghostbusters is an actually beautiful game. Later levels in the game have stunning other-world environments especially when you are transported to and between the real world and the Gozerian world. Particle effects are amazing from the globs of slime that gush out of your proton pack to the standard proton stream that creates a torch for you in dark areas. The proton stream is dynamic and is always in state of flux that is pleasing to any Ghostbusters fan that always wanted fire a proton pack, me included.
The Ghostbusters movies always gave great special effects and urban city environments. So, how well does Ghostbusters represent the unique design and architecture of the movies? Great! The architecture in this game is detailed and well implemented with the main story. The level design paces the game well mixing puzzle elements and leaving your rookie avatar to roam freely while chaos ensues. You always have just enough room to dodge and pick up your team mates while ghosts and monsters swarm you in either direction.
So, how does it play? Well, let me tell you. Your main three step method of catching ghosts is summed up nicely when Ray says you must “sap ‘em, cap ‘em, and trap ‘em.” Players must sap the energy out of the ghosts, put out a capture stream in order to reel the ghost in, and then wrestle with the ghost until it gets sucked up by the trap. It’s a great system although the capture stream does tend to deactivate itself, letting your ghost free.
Don’t be fooled that your only equipped with a proton pack. There are many other additions to arsenal fire like their fps counterparts like a sniper rifle, shotgun, pistol, and flamethrower. Weapons in Ghostbusters usually have two modes of function are a fun to use. There is certainly a third person shooter aspect to this game if third person action adventure games put you off.
The game play in Ghostbusters is medium paced never feeling too rushed or too slow. Instead of difficulty being ramped as the story progresses, the game always warms you up with an easy task to get you thinking more like a Ghost buster. The PKE meter plays a pivotal role in the game if you’re an achievement/trophy whore. You must tag each new ghost you come across in order to gain one of the achievements/trophies. I found myself completely forgetting to tag the ghosts and ended up lighting them up, leaving me with no trophy.
The sound department in Ghostbusters is no slouch either. The happy go lucky themes represented in the Ghostbusters movies are all here. From when your greeted by the amazingly catchy menu screen music to the original Ghostbusters theme. One thing that puts me off about the music department is that whenever they use the original Ghostbusters theme song they never get to the keyboard solo climax. I just need that and that game left me with blue balls every single time. But that’s my problem.
All in all Ghostbusters is a fantastic game and be sure to at least this game a rental or even a buy if you are a true fan of the movies. This game has a ton of replay ability through its multiplayer mode. I was expecting a 4 player online coop STORY mode but I was so disappointed they didn’t include one. The game was basically tailor made for one to happen aside from when you’re going solo. Most of the replay ability will be grinding back through story mode and collecting about a third of the trophies through its seemingly fun multiplayer. At least play this game and beat it. That is what I did.
Joe Y writes: With server closures, glitches, and broken patches, many games have unobtainable achievements and trophies. Here are the top 10 you can't 100% anymore.
"It sounds simple enough, but due to the expiration of licenses, one of the four songs, Promised Land by Vesuvius, is no longer available to download. If you previously had it downloaded, it will *not* be taken away, so you'll still be able to grab this one."
Well damn it. I really dig that song from The Rocker and I did not know it was in RB3. I stopped playing after RB2.
Online achievement/trophies are dumb. I’m not sure why they still include them. I recall the modern warfare games were applauded for not including them.
Unless the game is an online only game because what choice is there at that point.
Half of these are false .. The Evolve one can still unlocked... Ghostbusters is only unachievable on PS3 its still online on 360.. Destiny 2 one is only unobtainable for a while as said by bungie... GTAV one can still be unlocked too in a private game. And the Black Ops 3 one can still be unlocked using a few different methods. Guy who wrote this is clueless.
When a games server goes offline then they should allow users to create their own p2p servers to keep these games active. They should also unlock or delete the trophies from any list to those who havent got them.
I can think of a few honorable mentions. there is one for smartglass seeing as smartglass is now defunct. there is also ones for 1v100 and dorito crash course 2 since both of those games are also defunct.
Halloween is finally here, and it’s the perfect time to play some scary games. Gamers have plenty to choose from, whether it be a classic like Silent Hill 2 or a more modern game such as Outlast 2. If you’re having some trouble deciding but want to play something other than the usual Resident Evil or Silent […]
lOl uhh, I'll stick to RE7 VR, that is a game i think i'll never beat, but I do think that my 15 min play sessions every 4 months will get me closer to the end before the PS5 drops lOl
