Gears of War 1 was one of the flagship titles for Xbox 360. It was the game which set the standards in terms of graphical quality and production values. Another very important thing that it did was to play a very important role for marketing the unreal engine, which was then used by countless games on Xbox360 after that.
It was the perfect third person shooter for the console. This was the game that wowed me and made me realize that the next-gen was here.
Enough about Gears of War 1 this is the review for Gears Of War 2. The question in every ones mind is, will it be able to live up to the expectations of rabid fans of the series. We should all realize that making a sequel for one of the best games available on 360 is no easy task.
I am happy to report to the fans that "Though Gears shalt set Us free".
Epic has been able to make it bigger, badder and funner :) if that is a word. The game starts of slow, but once it gets going its a thrilling ride that begs attention.Epic has been able to diversify Gow's game play with exceptionally crafted boss battles, puzzles of moderate difficulty, and solid AI(Friends and Foes).Over all the pace of the game is very nice. They have done a very nice job of making sure that you never get tired of doing the same thing over and over again . Epic kept throwing new game play mechanics in the game, minor elements but nonetheless important to keep the player involved in the action.
Graphically the game has improved over its predecessor. This is hands down the best looking game available on the 360 and will be for quite some time in my opinion
It seems Epic has been able to further stream line its flagship unreal engine. The environments are bigger and more varied than before. There were moments when I had to pause and admire the mesmerizing vistas epic was able to conjure up, even with the dirty bloody grubs this is a beautiful game. The graphics are crisp with a bit more diverse color pallet than before. All the effects are there motion blur, rag doll, reflective floors, refractive water, and big bloody gibs :).The frame rate is mostly solid but I did experience minor stutters, nothing disruptive though.
Having said that I will mention one thing that bugged me about the graphics. I felt that the graphics felt too similar too Unreal tournament 3 and countless other games which were developed on the unreal engine. All games on the unreal engine seems to look similar which kind of takes away the charm and individuality from games.
Lets talk about the game play a bit more. The biggest improvement has been with the boss battles. The difference is that now you are made to interact with all sort of big baddies where as in GOW 1 you were merely shown glimpses of them. The boss battles are epic and more importantly fun. The core Gun play is the same and hasn't changed a bit, which is definitely not a bad thing. A few new weapons have been added and the clip size of the lancer has been uped. My favorite new weapon is the flamethrower, I don know there is something fun about burning alien scum :) .
Chain saw duels are a nice addition. You enter a duel if you and an opponent try to saw each other at the same time. This is a nice touch but it doesn't play a big role in the single player campaign nor does the human shield thing. These are fun but you wont use them often. So both these things are basically new game play elements but they are not that useful, I think they could have implemented and introduced them in a better way. They will probably become more useful in MultiPlayer over time.
I would like to mention that I felt GOW 1 had a little restrictive player movement and sadly that has not been streamlined for Gow 2. But I think epic covered for that by allowing the player to drive a lot of things., I say things and not vehicles keep that in mind. You get to drive a lot of crazy stuff which is awesome and fun :).
Epic has been known to suck at narrating stories. I was really happy with the story of Gow 2 that is up untill the very end of the game when suddenly the story abruptly ends. The final boss battle is also very meaning less and not fun which was really disappointing. I mean the build up to the finale was so awesome that I expected a very epic last battle but instead I was shown a very big monster which I defeated in 53 secs without doing anything special and then boom a 1 min clip and that was it. Epic really fed the end game and I think fans wont be happy with the story, specifically the ending. The ending did not explain anything no loose ends were tied, all new questions raised were left unanswered and the Hot Alien Queen did not make an appearance again which made me a very sad panda :(.
MultiPlayer did not appeal to me much maybe because the no one was online as of yet. But the bot matches I had were more or less the same as GOw 1 no major difference.I think Epic did not do much in this department. They have new fun modes like meat flag and stuff but nothing special. Im not saying the MultiPlayer is bad its just that I expected more.
Over all Gow 2 is an excellent follow up to a highly acclaimed game and moves the franchise in a positive direction. The single player experience is something that will set the standard for future action games.Fans will rally behind this game and they have every reason to.The abrupt end did disappoint me but then I started playing the campaign all over again on a higher difficulty and that helped me to forgive Epic. This is the game to get this Christmas on the X360.
The Gears of War series has been a consistent deliverer of quality for Xbox, but which games are the best?
Gears of War is my favorite video game franchise, and the Locust is my all-time favorite faction.
My rank list:
1. Gears of War 2
2. Gears of War 3
3. Gears of War 1
4. Gears of War 4
5. Gears of War 5
6. Gears of War Judgment (No Locust in multiplayer was a disgrace)
2 is still my favorite but 5 is also up there (for me). Then I'd say 1, 3, 4 and Judgement. Tactics isnt the same type of game, so it seems odd to rank it among TPS when its a strategy game. So I make that one all its own. Pretty fun game too.
The first is and has always been the best one imo - the story, the levels, the set pieces, the soundtrack - as close to perfect as a campaign can get.
I’d say the series had been on a continual downhill slide until 5.

Judgement
I love the series as a whole, but 4 was pretty by the numbers, and Judgement was just ok.
I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.
Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better action games out there.
What's the best Gears of War game for players? Where to start? This guide should easily lend a hand.
Gears 1 and 2 will always be my favorite Gears titles. The scene where Dom find his wife and then has to shoot her was an epic scene.
My favorite Gears game list
1. Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 1
4. Gears 4
5. Gears 5
6. Gears Judgement
Gears Of War is my favorite video game franchise. I can’t imagine how Gears 6 will look in UE5 after watching Hellblade 2 gameplay trailer
One of the reasons why i got the series x. Been fan since the first game.
Played them all recently on gamepass. Great games. But my favorites gotta be gears tactics. Don’t know why. I just had a blast with it lol
The Gears of War franchise's influence has remained to this day with cover systems becoming as ubiquitous as regenerating health. With a new console generation upon us, it's time to list the series from worst to best.
My ranking list
1 .Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 1
4. Gears Judgement
5. Gears 4
6. Gears 5
1. Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 5
4. Gears 1/UE
5. Gears 4
6. Gears Judgement
Close to my rankings but some differences. My rankings:
1. Gears 3
2. Gears 5
3. Gears 4
4. Judgement
5. Gears 2
6. Gears 1
People will hate on me putting Gears 2 so low but I always felt the graphics were too busy to the point of confusion and the combat/movement hadn't really improved over 1. Lot of cool ideas but execution wasn't the best as far as I'm concerned.
9.0 at least dude i have played it
What is your gamertag I don't believe you've even played it.
I would like to know where you bought the game as well.
I smell pirate!
IT would have been a 9 or even more if it weren't for the fed up ending Who ever is saying that i gave it a low score hasnt probably ended the game as of yet... I mean this is an Awesome Awesome Game but they really do fk up the ending i don know what happened Maybe CLiff Had constipation or smthn near the end cause it ends so abruptly and don't u temme otherwise :/
And the multiplayer U try it and tell me that its not the same as gow 1 man EPic could have made these changes with a mod to the gow 1 multiplayer :/ So ther overall replayability aint that much with GOw2 the single player experience is the meat of the game :)
Cheers :)
nice review man, glad it didn't had spoilers :) damn your lucky man got the gow2 copy first and even ended it :D on the other hand we're waiting here to get it :P
Seems about right.
