Fight Night Round 4 is EA sports 4th title in the Fight Night series. It is the successor to Fight Night Round 3, and there have been some major changes between the two games.
First of all, the overall speed of the game has been increased. If you liked the slower gameplay/punches of Fight Night Round 3, you might be disappointed with Round 4. The game has gone back to a more unrealistic gameplay system, much like the older 2 games. Jab's come out lightning quick in this game and you can throw an almost unlimited amount of jabs before losing enough stamina to make yourself stop. Although this is unrealistic, I still found the game to be very fun when playing against friends. If you are a hardcore boxing fan that aims for realism you'd probably be better off with round 3.
One of the best aspects of this game is the customization you have in making your own pugilist. You can either pick a face for your fighter from a very large list, or you can use pictures of yourself (or anyone else really) and have the game create an identical in-game face for your fighter. This program does not always work perfectly, and more than often I got faces that looked nothing like the picture but when it does work it is extremely fun to mess around with. You are also able to determine your boxers height, reach, and weight. The Height and Reach actually matter int he game because it'll give you certain advantages and disadvantages. Shorter fighters with shorter arms are generally better at infighting while taller longer armed fighters are better at fighting on the outside.
The game uses a new Total punch control system, changing it from it's older iterations. Due to popular demand, EA also implemented button controls so you don't have to use the analog sticks if you don't want to.
If your looking for a fun game to play with friends, this is definitely a good choice. You'll have a good time knocking each other out for hours on end. The game does have it's faults though, especially regarding the online community. Another problem with the game is the training sequences in the career mode. The training can be incredibly hard at times, and it is also very boring. It doesn't help that you HAVE to train dozens of times throughout your career in order to strengthen your fighter.
Fight Night Round 4 swings its final punch, as online servers will be taken down next year according to a press release from EA.
Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?
Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.
cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird
Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.
DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s members ‘Andreaa’, “airGaming”, “reznoire” and “John GodGames Emus” have shared some videos showing Fight Night Round 4, Uncharted, MotorStorm, Dante’s Inferno, Sonic 4 and Resistance 2 running on the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3."
Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
Fight Night Champion was an abomination - but man, I'd love to see a new gen Fight Night game.
