Dynasty Warrios once a franchise that was thought to bring an engine capabilities to it's fullest because of the amount of people on screen.
Ever since DW4, possibly the best of the franchise, the games have just gotten sloppier.
So another chance to button-smash...
GRAPHICS
They most notably have an improvement but thats just the jump to next-gen. It looks good but it is obvious that they could've placed more time into the graphics since the gameplay is as usual repetetive.
Some parts look good but two years into next-hen they should have done better.
A lot of animations repeat themeselves, there are only 16 unique movesets.
The killing animations are awful
GAMEPLAY
They integrated a new system called Renbu which makes an unending combo which just makes the button smashing a lot simpler.
The controls are the same...
square--normal attack
triangle--charge attack
circle-- musou attack
A cool integration it's the ability to swim and climb ladders, althoush it was expected that these two elemets would bring some depth onto a shallow game, it wasn't like that at all. They are cool but not what was expected.
As always there is a musou, free and challenge mode. Lets star with ...
MUSOU MODE
It's the story mode of the game, you get to play as 17 different characters. Some of the you have to unlock others are there from the beginning.
Before and after each batlle you trigger a 50 second long cutscene to tell you the story.
For being the story mode of the game it does an awful job, newcomers will get confused with each characters plotline sice you rewrite history and you create time paradoxes unlike DW5, they did a great job with that.
FREE MODE
It lets you play as any character, in any side(as long as its playable), in any unlocked stage, that simple. You can upgrade your character here.
CHALLENGE MODE
They give you pointless challenges that don't benefit you in any way unless you're striving for a self pleasure of beating the integrated high score in a dum challenge. Or even better get to the top of the list in the online ranking.
CLOSING COMMENTS
The game just feels old and the same as last time but somehow it feels smoother in terms of character movement. And the character animations (some) are cool.
Dynasty Warriors 6 was a controversial game that took the Warriors series in a much needed new direction. Can Dynasty Warriors 9 do the same?
DW9 came out a few years ago and was not met with kindness. You mean 10. DW6 was not a good direction at all but DW6Empires was alright by me.
What i remember from DW6 was alot of characters who had unique weapons in the previous games ended up with either a spear, sword or bow. Some that come to mind was the guy with the claw like Vega from street fighter, the guy with tonfas, the guy with the samurai sword and the chick with the bladed rings, all cool weapons changed to generic sword, bow or spear.
The spinoff strikeforce was pretty cool.
The Dynasty Warriors series has turned 15 years-old. And Koei Tecmo is celebrating with the release of a special trailer.
Such a shame the series is so much worse now than it was back in its 4/5th iterations.
Smh
Thank you Tecmo Koei. I love Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and Sengoku Basara.
Mike from Awesome Games writes: 'I am, and always have been, a huge fan of Tecmo Koei’s Warriors franchise. But I think it’s time to say that I’m sick of developer Omega Force’s “If it aint’ broke…” attitude towards what is one of my all-time favourite video game series. Because, although I’m still enjoying them, I am losing interest slightly with each sequel – and that saddens me. Therefore, I would like to make some suggestions as to how I think a next-gen warriors title could greatly improve upon Tecmo Koei’s current offerings. For the purposes of this article, I’ll be using the Dynasty Warriors series as my proverbial punch-bag, as it is TK’s flagship Warriors series and I feel all of my arguments apply to it. But don’t worry; most of my arguments apply to the other variations as well.'
