A Brilliant Game Yet Underated

Disclaimer: dont expect good grammar or spelling here as english is not my first language

At first I was unsure if to buy Driveclub. I was trying to decide between getting DriveclubC,LBP3 or if to re-buy destiny since my brother has been bothering me to get it again so we could play together. Im glad that i bought Driveclub! the first few races were average but then as i unlocked new cars and saw the weather effects I was wowed. My main concern with DC was if it was going to get boring fast" given that the car roster was much smaller than other racers but ohh was I wrong!

If describe driveclub in a few words it would be fast, competitive, simple, social and Fun!

This social racer makes you thirsty for speed! The driving mechanics are great! Driveclub is in that sim-arcade sweetspot! Mistakes while driving are not punished severely like in racing sims.

The game encourages social competition with friends and DC community in a number of different ways. Certain sections in all DC tracks have a built in timer that is used to measure your time against your friends or DC community member time. The game basically telling the player "hey so and so person was faster or slower than you in this track section" curve

So as your racing online or in single player. when your about to hit a certain curve in a track a timer, point counter or Speedometer might start with the picture of a friend stating there record for that particular section of the track and as you finish that "social" section. It will let you know if you beat the persons record for that track section or not. Its like the game is constantly getting you to improve.

The challenges are "adicting" lol. I spent about 30 min trying to beat one of my friends record on a certain challenge and it felt satisfying to beat that record!

Players can then challenge other players by sending their personal records on challenges for players to beat, so if your confident your score is very hard to beat put it to the test by sending it as a challenge.

The leveling up system is something that keeps reminding players about their progress with the game.

The car sounds and overall audio in the game is amazing. The engine sounds of those V10 engines are like music to my ears! The menu music is just right for driveclub, i never feel tired of listening to it.

car color/design customization are ok but not great.

There are lots of tracks in the game and the day/night cycles, dynamic weather makes the tracks have more longevity. There is some beautiful scenery in each track.

although the small car roster is a negative, so far i dont feel like i am getting bored of the game just yet. The thing is, driveclub is much more about great gameplay with inovative social features than a long list of Cars to choose from. Its just a solid social competitive racer with extreme atention to graphical detail.

One of the best things about driveclub is the amazing online gameplay(kinda ironic since the game launched with a broken online lol) its so EASY to get in and out of online matches its just a breeze to search for online races. Its so much fun to get in to a lobby and start trash talking jeje then when your in that #1 spot in the race just brag about it lol

I did not expect to like driveclub this much and has reminded that review scores should not be taken so seriously like they are nowadays. WE should not let websites tell you what game to buy. Make up your own mind!

The game is immense. Car/challenge customisation would be my 2 big requests. With more tracks & cars being added over time you can't really complain, especially since this is a new ip. I would give DC a solid 8.5.

It isn't the best but it does set a solid foundation. Hopefully Evo & Sony won't leave it behind due to the issues suffered at first and they build upon it. If one can see the bigger picture, the IP has serious potential.

Josuey3425d ago

the game is already successful in the sales department, the game has sold 1.51 million copies. id love for them to do another one but i would also love for them to do a new motorstorm with with driveclub features!

Xavior_Reigns3421d ago

One disagree? One salty pathetic troll who can't see the bigger picture. What did you think all IPs start off grand? (Some do but its rare)

tlougotg3418d ago

Just came in today to view the comments. Your entitle to your opinion but it isnt the best compared to what? GT, Forza or Forza Horizon. Im going to be honest i own all those racing games and prefer and have more fun with Drive Club. It does what it was produced to do very well. It is actually my goty over games like Dragon Age inquisiotn, Alien Isolation, etc....

All of this is subjective of course and if you prefer an open world racer youll choose Horizons or a game with alot of customization youll choose GT.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85135d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972135d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183134d ago (Edited 134d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim135d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno135d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183134d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

Chocoburger135d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai135d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC135d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

Driveclub - Brutal Backlog

Driveclub was a headline game at the start of the PS4’s life. A fabulous game – eventually - but what now, with the servers turned off? Is it worth your time? JDR starts its engines in today’s Brutal Backlog.

purple1011235d ago

i went to the article and theres only a couple racing games, cant find the button to move page on through all the adverts.

purple1011235d ago

ah its changed to a video now, strange, but il take it

Dfooster1234d ago

Dirt rally doesn't even make the list? Errm OK then.

Driveclub is over rated as well, with middle of the road handling and the 30fps killed it upon arrival for me.
