A long bumpy road.

"Destroy All Humans" as the title would suggest is a game where you destroy. You destroy humans, and well everything in sight. Sounds like an interesting premise, if you get it done right. This they did not do.

You play as Cryptosporidium, the big eyed extraterrestrial wise guy. Lets call him Crypto for short. Crypto can be funny at times and he can shower us with his infinite wisdom. It should also be noted that he has this weird thing for human females.

Orthopox 13, or Pox for short is more or less Crypto's boss. Pox is a brilliant tactician, a canny businessman, and holds his own in chess. He also has a pet rock. He is voiced by non other than Richard Steven Horvitz (causing him to sound like Zim from Invader Zim, albeit with an English accent).

Both of them are not human, as you probably guessed. They are "Furons" and come from the planet "Furon". For some reason all of its inhabitants are named after diseases.

On to the gameplay, imagine GTA but with your own UFO and state of the art Furon weapons at your disposal, but take away everything but the sandbox. Add in a destructible environment and a pinch of Psychokinesis.

At first its an exciting and entertaining experience, but sadly things go downhill soon after that. All you do is destroy, which is fun until you realize you have been doing the same thing for the majority of the time you had with the game. Sure there are some really nice weapons (i.e Venus Human Trap), but things get really repetitive once you reach a point.

Thankfully most of the side quests require you to think differently. It makes me wish that there were more of them. I'm not saying that all the main missions are identical. I'm saying that most of them are. If your not out destroying and pillaging chances are your having a discussion with someone or reading the minds of pedestrians.

Previous installments did a better job in keeping me hooked in. It's still a good game, not great, but good. Lets now focus on the good. It's the type of game that feels rushed, which is likely since the studio that made it closed its doors before the game came out.

The soundtrack is a beauty to be heard, and really fades into the atmosphere the developers were going for. And if that wasn't enough to tame your ears, the voice acting is superb thanks to the amazing performances given by J. Grant Albrecht and Richard Steven Horvitz.

I cant finish without mentioning the co-op. Awful at best. I think it would have been better with more than 2 players (Offline). The co-op serves no purpose, other than to frustrate. I feel like going into detail will be a waste of your time. I'll do it anyway. There are 3 challenges:

Ion Soccer: Football (Or Soccer) with 2 players and ion detonators.

Brain-O-Matic: Basically you collect brains by putting humans into a machine for points.

Abductorama: Sort of like capture the flag, but with a ball.

may i ask, is this game as good as the last one on the ps2 and xbox? or is it worse?

Alabaster4506d ago

I would say it's better than the first, but the second is superior.

I'm a bit disheartened in trying this third game in the series due to the fact Pandemic didn't make it and THQ closed down Sandblast Games shortly after release. I never really see it drop dramatically in price in second hand stores, so I presume it much have some kind of value.

The DAH licence was pretty much screwed as soon as Big Willy Unleashed came out. I hope THQ fix it, the series has such potential. Volition would do a great job rebooting the DAH mythos since Pandemic are dead now. Thanks EA.

It does. In the US anyway. Here in the Middle East and probably Europe, there was too many of them at launch. A store I know had 50 COPIES on their shelves, with only 10 of them making it out in a period of 6 months!

If you don't believe me, go order one from Amazon. You will get a European version (Ps3). I was baffled mainly because most people in the oil rich gulf buy every major game that comes out.

A new DAH game done right could be awesome on the PSVita. THQ did say they were working on quality game only, whatever they mean by that.
