When Call of Duty: World At War was announced, people had mixed feelings. Treyarch had announced that they were going back to World War 2. Again.
The first thing you'll come to realize in the game is that its alot like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing. The single player campaign starts off with your character tied up on the floor standing on his knees watching his friend get killed. Some other troops then come and rescue you. You are then put straight into the middle of gunfire. There are two sides to the single player campaign. The American campaign and the Russian campaign. They are both very similar, just basically clearing up. Both have vehicle based mission where the American campaign see's you mounting various machine guns in a black cat clearing the seas of Ships and clearing the skies of Japanese zeroes. The Russian vehicle based mission see's you take command of a tank in which you have to destroy ememy towers, bunkers and artillery. The singleplayer campaign is overall very good, could be abit longer. Completing the single-player campaign unlocks a very addicting game mode called Nazi Zombies. You can either play by yourself (not recommended), split screen or online. This game mode sees you locked in an abandoned building surounded by zombies. Your objective is to survive as many waves of zombies as you can. If all of you die, GAME OVER. This is a very welcome addition to the series and i would love to see something like this in the next game.
The weapons in World at War are oh so pleasing, ranging from Bolt Action Rifles to Heavy Machine Guns to Bazookas. All weapons pack a powerfull punch. My favourite weapons consist of: MP40, STG-44, PTRS-41 and the .48 Magnum. All the weapons, just like Call of Duty 4 can be upgraded in multiplayer with additions like, Suppresors, Sniper Scopes and Grenade launchers, to name a few.
Ahhh, yes Multiplayer. This is where you will spend most of your time. Just like Call of Duty it is very addictive and isnt very tactical. Just simply run-and-gun. There are 65 ranks to achieve and once you get to maximum rank you have the option to gain prestige. 10 times. Then game modes range from Free-for-all to Team deathmatch to Search and Destroy. There is also Co-operative mode which lets you play the single-player campaign online. It is good for a few days but the novelty will wear off and you will be straight back to Competitive multiplayer.
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.
2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.
A very devoted fan of Call of Duty: World at War racks up incredible in-game stats while playing regularly for the past 15 years.
Of course you will hit a ridiculous stat after 15 of anything.
My main character for Everquest had over 500 days played in the first 6 years of the game. I was young then and had a lot of time on my hands. I don’t think I could duplicate that again until I retire and not sure I could match it if I tried.
Andrew says: "The intrinsic values of COD are the following: memorable campaigns, meticulous multiplayer marathons, and lobbies populated by screaming 12-year-old kids that think puberty is the evolved form of Jigglypuff."
Too bad your user review is a bit short. But I like to read what you wrote.
