Obviously borrowing from the Grand Theft Auto games, Bully is a free-roam, do-what-you-want game (originally released 2 years ago on the PS2) where you are a 15 year-old boy who's been expelled from every school he's been to and gets dumped at Bullworth academy, the worst school in the country. You do missions, roam around the world around you and do the occasional side missions that will either give you new abilities, or give you cash.
Unfortunately, this game's nothing compared to Grand Theft Auto. The school/city feels somewhat closed in compared to other games of this nature, and the highlight of Grand Theft Auto, shooting guns and stealing cars, is missing from this underpowered Wii port. Also, the side missions are almost completely restricted to taking your classes, finding collectibles and learning new fighting moves, and while it's fun at first, it grows tedious fast.
These problems wouldn't be so bad if the graphics were good, but sadly, Bully falls short again. They seemed great on the PS2, but they haven't been improved at all for it's jump to Wii. The motion controls worked better than the graphics did, but they didn't work very well, either. It's difficult to land combos while fighting, and the classes that use motion controls feel a little unfair.
Bully has a great concept, and is worth a chance, but I don't care about the fact that everyone else is giving this game an 8+/10. I'm not afraid to say it. I don't think this game is very good. And besides, if I had to choose, I would wait a few more weeks for GTA IV. And if you just have a Wii, look for No More Heroes, that's a pretty good game similar to GTA. :)
Bully: Scholarship Edition was an Xbox 360 & Wii re-release of the PS2 classic. Still playable on modern consoles, it'll make you long for a sequel.
A sequel? More likely a remake as is the current trend? No point, everyone wants GTA VI.
If there’s to be a sequel it should be at the college/university level. Otherwise its just going to be a rehash of the same progression and story.
Phil at SPC writes, "These remakes and remasters are certainly NOT turkeys by any stretch of the word. As many of us in the United States [hopefully safely] enjoy our Thanksgiving weekend, SPC returns with its ongoing look at the best video game remakes and remasters. These games greatly improved on their originals, or breathed new life into old classics with a fresh approach that ultimately worked out wonderfully in the end. These latest five remakes and remasters truly shine brightly and most definitely do their originals justice."
Many series of video games are getting numerous sequels. GameBuz wanted to look back at some games that never got a sequel that many gamers remember with fondness.
I don’t think you should review a game on the Wii and ask them to wait until another game arrives on another system, what if the reader only owns a Wii, that wouldn’t be helpful to them.
Other than that good review overall.
