Thank You 1943 for Something New...

The Battlefield series has already offered us so much, and with the addition of 1943, they have raised the bar even higher. DICE and EA have brought us, yet again another brilliant game in the battlefield franchise.

With a price tag of $14.99 this game is hard to beat, not to mention wonderful visuals and physics. But, 1943 has introduced a whole new aspect to the game with the addition of regenerative health and infinite ammo, the games appeal shoots way up. Although, i would have liked to see more classes, BUT this would increase the price. So for what 1943 has accomplished with such a low price, i give it a thumbs up.

There are also the classes, carefully balanced between the "short, medium, and long range" classes. The close range tank buster class implements the smg and rpg. This combination is very effective and the way the round drops off when you fire it adds to the realism. The sniper class deserves one word, "wow". sniping in 1943 is very fun and a whopping challenge because the range involved in the maps makes sniping take that much more skill. And when you get a headshot from halfway across the map you jump off the couch and wish there was a replay feature. Finally is the soldier class, the semi auto rifles offer long range and deal some pretty good damage, the rifle grenade offers a great way to blow your way through buildings and clear bunkers all at once. All three are balanced beautifully so it meshes with the game play perfectly.

Overall Battlefield: 1943 is a wonderfully put together game. The gameplay, visuals, and physics all come together to make an intense war experience that will keep you coming back for more.

Nice Review. I agree with you.

goflyakite5411d ago

About the sniping, it's just so satisfying getting a kill when your victim is on the opposite side of the map.

Great game.

socomnick5410d ago

Ps3 fans first got a taste of battlefield type gameplay with Warhawk, and even this lite version of Battlefield destroys Warhawk. Wait till you guys get a real Dedicated full battlefield game, not that battlefield bad company crap either, im talking about massive conquest maps with many airplanes, many boats, tons of tanks, apcs, artillery, classes, guns and factions. Like Battlfield 1942,vietnam,bf2 pc, 2142. Those are the real battlefields, Bad company is the worst game in the franchise.

I wouldn't go as high as you did, the highest I would go is an 8, maybe even a bit lower, the game has large issues that need addressed.

Just because a game is downloadable doesn't mean it will get a free pass.

The areas I disagree:

Graphics:
Rampant screen tearing and shadow distortion, sometimes you get weird glitches where the game freaks out and flashes black shapes for a few seconds.

Gameplay:

Repeated occasions seen by myself and others where weapons just don't work, such as detonating TNT and it doesn't explode, rocket launcher says it it armed but won't fire, or random occurrences of not being able to aim for a few seconds.

Online:

While playing with friends you rarely get to play more than 2-3 matches before it breaks up your squad and one of your party ends up on the opposite team.

The leaderboards are relatively broken. Rarely do they show the correct order, sometimes information is missing, and sometimes they seemingly do not update.

Sometimes it will say you have gotten a kill but you never receive the points or credit on the scoreboard. This seems to happen in the final seconds of the match a lot, or if you kill someone and die immediately after.

Another thing about the online is sometimes you will play the same map for literally hours upon hours, with only 3 maps it is important that they actually cycle. Leaving a session just to get a new map is a waste of time, and you just end up back in the same game most times.

In my opinion people are being a bit too easy on this game. The game is okay, it isn't spectacular. It is fun for a bit but has already gotten rather old. Once you've played the maps a few times and used each class a fair bit there really isn't much pulling you back. The achievements on 360 were painfully easy. I've all but stopped playing this after a week.

also i'm curious as to why you says the pros as being fresh gameplay, and low price tag

neither of these is the case
the same gameplay has been around for years, and the price is pretty much what you would expect to pay, maybe a bit more actually since it only features multiplayer.

Decent review, but I disagree with a fair portion of what you said.

ScoobyDrew5370d ago

alright fair enough, this review was based mainly upon personal experience. And when i played i gave me a highly replayable experience. i mean obviously its all opinion based, and i do agree with what you said, i just thought it was outstanding for a 15 dollar downloadable

Battlefield Legacy - Sunsetting Announcement

EA: "As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end."

darthv72419d ago

This reminds me... I have ME on my PS3 hdd. Never really played it, but it was free.

XiNatsuDragnel419d ago

Digital future ppl is good they say nope imo

Eidolon418d ago

And it still says nothing about being able to downloaded even when it's off the storefront, that's a huge ouchie for some who somehow still have it in their backlog...

Shane Kim418d ago

Dont make it an issue when it's not. If you haven't played it in 15 years, chances are you'll never play it.

isarai419d ago

That all digital future sure looks great!

Online game servers shut off eventually all the time. Doesn’t matter if you have the disc or not. Even if you have the disc, it’ll be just paperweight unless the game lets you connect directly to a friend or LAN play.

isarai419d ago (Edited 419d ago )

Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.

zidane1341419d ago

@israrai, you can still buy the disc for less then 10$. Hardly a loss.

TheEnigma313419d ago

You shouldn't have to buy the disc, that's the issue.

OhReginald418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

Some brilliant minds created servers to keep these old online games alive. A lot of ps2 and ps3 games that had there servers shut down a long time ago have been restored by fans to keep it going. Warhawk, killzone 2, socom 2/ confrontation, resident evil outbreak series, etc.

DankSinatra418d ago

The disc still exist. I don’t understand the issue. You guys are upset about that “all digital future” yet these games are not “digital only”. Hell digital only is a minority in the gaming world and so far we haven’t moved into it, the only digital only games are games as a service or online only games, which end up failing in the end.

This is no different than a store that stops selling old games, just go and buy a copy somewhere else. So which is it, you hate all digital or you like it? Make up your mind.

isarai418d ago

Talk about missing the point entirely. I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you, figure it out.

DankSinatra418d ago

Talk about whining about something and not wanting to explain from an off handed sarcastic original comment.

I got the point just fine. You’re literally complaining about something that has an easy alternative to it.

ManMarmalade418d ago

I don't think you got the point

DankSinatra418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

@ManMarmalade

No I got it, it has to do with the push towards a future of all digital and reprocussions of losing games. Something I already stayed that hasn’t happened nor is it large enough right now to cause any issues as the games that are all digital are online only to begin with or make up the minority of games

So I’ll say it again, the disc still exists for these games that are over a decade old and can still be played easily. You guys are contradicting the whole “we don’t want a digital only future” crying when the dude I originally responded to stated:

“Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.“

So again, which is it? Do you hate all digital or do you want it?

Inverno419d ago

On PC I don't think it's much of a problem but I'm sad to see BF43 being shut down. I haven't played it in a while since it's stuck on PS3, but i preferred it way more over BF3. It was the lack of invisible barriers which made it better for me.

badz149419d ago

BFBC2 was still the best overall package offered by the franchise so far IMO

porkChop418d ago

Absolutely. BC2 was such a great game. It's a shame we never got BC3.

P_Bomb418d ago

I had a great run on Bad Company 2. Pound for pound, as solid a BF package as there’s been.

InUrFoxHole419d ago

Does anyone play the last BF anymore? I searched crossplay servers and it was 20 people the most on all the servers? Can never find a game

SonyStyled419d ago

The last BC you mean? I was still able to find 10v10 on ps3 2 years ago on NA servers during the evenings. I have all the free and paid dlc installed, but there want any matches in the Vietnam dlc.

Looking back to 2009 and the war over the Pacific with Battlefield 1943

Carlos writes: "In terms of Battlefield, the past 10 years has seen the series go from strength to strength, and whilst there will be many who would argue that the hit and miss adventures of Battlefield: Hardline didn’t quite live up to the excitement that the series is so well known for, each and every entry has at least provided plenty to shout about. Should you look back far enough and manage to take your mind away from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, what you may well remember is a small, online-only multiplayer adventure that lit up the Xbox Live Arcade – Battlefield 1943."

Great little game but yet again, no offline bots so once the servers went, so did all its players. What a waste.
