On my first play through of Alan Wake I found the game very refreshing, it was a nice change from the usuall games I had been playing. The reviews it got I think reflected the game well, it wasnt perfect but it was definitley worth playing if you owned a 360. The graphics in my opinion are the best on the 360 and although alot of the reviews complained about the lack of day time gameplay, the whole point of Alan Wake was to be scary and atmospheric so putting alot of daytime gameplay would have been out of place.
The gameplay is spot on and I think remedy made great use of their brilliant lighting engine. Although at some points it did get a little repetitive I dont think it was a major problem. Most of the time I was fully immersed in the experience Alan Wake provides. The controls are tight and precise which makes the game more enjoyable and doesnt take away from the experience like I have experienced in some other games which I wont mention incase it causes any offence.
The reason I called the artical "Alan Wake, the game it should have been" is because I have just played the DLC and cant understand why this wasnt just part of the original release. For me it would have made the experience alot more enjoyable because i found myself playing the game again to experience the story without any breaks. The story in Alan Wake is very important to the game so why Remedy made us wait months to find out what happened is beyond me. Gaming in general has become to focused on DLC so im glad to see companys like polyphony digital are not going along with the trend. The amount of content in that Gran Turismo 5 is astonishing and I wish remedy would have taken a leaf out of there book and released a complete game. Im hoping there is an alan wake 2, but I hope they release a game with a full story arc so it feels like a complete experience.
P.S sorry about the punctuation and grammer I wrote this on my phone.
Alan Wake 2 continues the writer's story, 13 years later.
Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
"I really, really, desperately wanted him to start it off."
The story borrowed HEAVILY from the King novel "The Dark Half" anyway. Figured there'd be some sort of lawsuit but seems King was in on and ok with it.
This game won't go away. I may have to give it a try ...
