Analysts think that 500,000 Japanese households may buy a Sony console just to play it. The PS3 has lagged well behind Nintendo's Wii and Sony urgently needs to sell more consoles if it is to profit from subsequent software sales.

It now has a chance.

LTD, YTD NPD hardware sales

Check out the life-to-date and year-to-date hardware figures for the PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP, and PS2 updated from the most recent NPD sales report.

Top 10 Games That Need Online Multiplayer/Co-Op

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature list:

"Online gaming on consoles may be popular now, but it wasn't always this way. Systems like the Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, and the original Xbox attempted to bring online gaming to the masses, however, they did so with decent success. The Xbox almost made it happen, especially with heavy-hitting releases like Halo 2 that persuaded gamers to invest in the LIVE service. It wasn't until the launch of the Xbox 360 that gaming online really started taking off. Nowadays, whenever you purchase a new game, there's a huge chance that it features a mode allowing you to play with or against real people (Army of Two - perfect example of teamwork in gaming). Of course, there are still many titles available that don't let players interact with others across the globe. Normally, this is due to many factors, like meeting a deadline or not having enough manpower. In these cases, it's understandable, but there are instances where specific games would have been better with the addition of an online multiplayer or co-op mode."

A "Multi-Console Online" Game Would Be Logical

IronstarMovement writes: "Everyone has thought it, others have said it, and I am here to elaborate on it. If there was a game that allowed PS3 and 360 users to play together, we all would play it! Could you imagine if this heated console war that has been raging across the internet made it's way into an online game? Or even being able to play a game with your friends who currently play on the other side? Well in imagining so myself, I've come to the conclusion that a game of this nature would not only be revolutionary, but also a huge success for the industry as well."

Playstation Network Premium Could Be Amazing If...

PushSquare's "Twiggy" discusses the potential feature-set, pricing and marketing that could make the rumoured Playstation Network Premium service a success.

What would make you bite?

PS2 Titles in Need of HD Remakes

RespawnAction writes: "The God of War collection was released last month and offered an HD visual upgrade to God of War 1 and 2. This got me thinking about what other games could benefit from an HD remake. Remember the great titles you played way back when on the non-HD systems? Remember how great they were? Could you imagine how they'd be when played on your home theater setup in 720p? Or possibly full 1080p? If one of your favorite games doesn't make the list, please add it in the comments..."

Analyst: FF13 Japan Sales "May Exceed FF12"

Final Fantasy XIII looks to be more popular than Square Enix expected, with analysts saying that it is likely to outsell Final Fantasy XII sales in Japan.

Why Final Fantasy XIII is a Bad Game [NSFW]

Criticism of blockbuster RPG Final Fantasy XIII has rapidly mounted, with the initial observation that the game is almost comically linear giving way to a litany of further dissatisfaction, many quite unavoidable even for the game's many staunch defenders.

Link is Not Safe For Work

Dante's Inferno Proves Corrupt ESRB

PS3Center: Still to this day certain industries and products on the market are not taken seriously. A major concern to me is the video game industry. Why is the fastest growing and biggest entertainment industry still looked at as child's play? Back when Pacman and other 2d pixel art games were popular it was understandable, but for some reason a majority of adults that loved those games will not respect the fact that the industry has evolved. This has become a problem for several reasons, but today I want to focus on something very commonly in the news. Our ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) and how corrupt it has become because of these ignorant people not accepting change.

Top 5 Playstation 3 Exclusives Released in 2009

The Playstation 3 saw some great exclusive titles this year. The rumors that were leaked definitely were from someone working on the game. Seth Killian and Ono have stated coutnless times that they were looking to add a "minimum of 8 characters" and while most people thought it would just be that, they in fact added 10 characters as the rumors had suggested. What this means is that the 4 new characters that will be announced are, Dudley, Makoto, Ibuki and the new Arab grappler Hakan.
