Bioshock 2 will be a prequel?

Czech gaming site Hrej.cz posted new information about Bioshock 2 which cames from some unnamed source within 2k Games. According to the source Bioshock 2 is now in pre-preproduction phase and 2k plans to release it in summer 2009. According to Hrej at this stage of development they are trying to focus on storyline and graphic design. Plot will be set BEFORE events from original game. So it looks like Bioshock 2 will be a prequel and we will wittness more about the fall of underwater utopia...

if you have played the game you will realize that the only way to go forward is to go back into the past.Rapture was such a deep compelling underwater world that it really makes sense to explain and show how it was a thriving city and how it all went bust.

Even *better* than the first, while playing Bioshock, I thought the prequel story would be better.. too much unexplored opportunity.

I just honestly hope they don't mess up that franchise by making a BioShock 3. A prequel will be great to show Rapture going to hell in a hand basket in the making. But, I just hate it when a good franchise goes bad when a completely unnecessary sequel is made, IMHO.

Go ahead and make BioShock 2, I loved the first. :)

I'd be delighted if they remade both System Shock 1 and 2, number 2 in particular is one of the creepiest games I've ever played and they could do some class things with a decent engine and maybe some co-op play creeping around the Von Braun.

It was a dumb rumor because somebody saw 'PS3' in coding of I forget what, so it's definitely not going to be on PS3. Maybe Bioshock 2 will, who knows.

If I remember correctly, there were some settings for the PS3 in an ini-file, or something of that nature.

I do however not believe that Bioshock will show up on the PS3, that is highly speculative, and until the developer/publisher says otherwise, I for one choose to believe that it won't.

Have played the game through on my Xbox 360 though, borrowed it from a friend, and I will be getting it for myself shortly. It's really a great game, slowed down towards the end I thing, but still a great experience.

I really think it would be OH so cool, to play as a custimizable character, before the fall of rapture, like not to far but far enuff that u can make decisions about ur plasmid use, have a neato job or something then right when all is well, it is new years and boom. u could choose to be pro atlas or anti atlas...make connections and such have dialouge so when rapture falls u have different sotry paths. doesnt have to be that deep, but def make it more rpg. but maybe im being stupid but IMO itd be neat

If it was actually after the original than it would be horrible and make no sense and the story would be kinda forced. Since after the first one without going into to too much detail it mainly ends the story completely. So I prequel would make me happy because I would understand even more than I do. Hopefully it has multiplayer with

Andrew Ryan and Fontaines guys fighting in different places for multiplayer. Or a Big Daddy mode where big daddy or big daddies defend little sisters. If those ideas dont work though it would be good without multiplayer

I figured it would be.
hopefully the prequel will show some destruction. That was the most disappointing thing about the first one. I was so expecting to see rapture fall apart in the last chapters with water bursting through and areas collapsing from the sea pressure

I would love to see Rapture as a flourishing city....playing through the events leading up to the Splicer take-over...

I was blessed with the chance to play BioShock from beginning to end when I did own a 360. I managed to finish it even though I was battling disc-read errors the entire time...that's how much this game captured me.

BioShock is an atmospheric masterpiece, and I wish it the best of luck in all its future iterations.
